@cavedweller thanks for the email response. I thought I would put the info I got from you here for general consumption. DonnyFL makes an adapter for the Evol. In fact, I didn’t know because I hadn’t looked before, but Donny makes a plethora (I like that word) of adapters. In the email recommend either the Emperor or The Ronin with a six inch extension from Donny.
Now my thoughts.
1. My understanding is that the Evol barrel shroud was meant to be an “expansion chamber” to quiet the gun and at the business end of the shroud there is disk between the barrel and shroud that does have holes to allow air to flow through into the shroud. Even so the extension on the Ronin is still needed? I wonder if the barrel shroud volume could be made more effective. Years ago I read about AirForce Condor owners drilling small holes at the rear of their shrouds to let that air escape out the back. I would rather let you drill holes in your very nice gun to experiment first, before I drill holes in mine
. I am guessing that the extension is more effective because the air doesn’t have to change direction and flow backwards to expand? Now my first thought and second thought (below) start to intermingle. Could someone 3D print something that went in the small space of the adapter, a baffle the angled backwards, that helped redirect air back into the shroud?
2. There seem to be two different approaches to moderators. One being a chamber filled with some sound dampening material like felt. The other being a chamber with baffles of some sort that strip the air and redirect it. I read about the possible accuracy affects of air turbulence around the pellet as it leaves the barrel. Is this a thing? Is one of the methods above more or less effective at reducing that turbulence and therefore improving accuracy? What if the two methods were combined, some cool shaped baffles to strip the air (maybe reducing the turbulence?) then some sound absorbing material. The Evol already has cool shaped baffles in the factory moderator. I am wishing there was a way to keep that factory baffles moderator and then add more suppressor to it.
Edit: though in this post I was specifically referring to the Evol the last part has questions about moderators in general that I am going to post in that part of the forum also.
