Not only that, but with harder pellets, the skirt could deform outwards and start grinding its way into the rifling within the bore, which could at least theoretically cause the barrel to explode, due to the really high pressures - it would cause something similar to a squib in firearms.

Same thing happened with my Crosman vigilante (357 variant), it's now got a completely loose barrel, which is essentially just a tube going up and down within the barrel shroud.

This particular family of Gamo rifles ("Gamo Power"/"29mm Chamber") likes their Pro Magnum pellets in .22 caliber a lot. I believe your gun is also a "Power" family member with 24J of advertised muzzle energy? I've also tested their Country pellets and they don't come close to these ProMagnum...
