    I don't know of a rule of thumb about the transfer port, but mine was 1/8", I drilled through with the 1/8" to get rid of the obstruction and then went through with a 9/64", or 1/64 larger.

    What fishinwrench said about the transfer port was what I found on My Crosman NP22. When I disassembled the rifle and looked down the piston cylinder to see the light coming through the transfer port, it wasn't round, like something in the way of it.
