I agree on the safety location. I can't help but feel like it was a conscious oversight during the design process to save time and money.

Is the Maverick slug power kit the same as the kit currently available for the Impact?

This is conjecture but I think maybe pellets are still more popular than slugs by a large margin so FX opted for a heavier pellet setup and tune with the option of allowing power users to sling slugs at appropriate velocities with the slug kit. 

I got my maverick in .22 from Talon Tunes coming this Friday. Very excited! I may have to get that .30 barrel too. 

Nice looking feeder. I'd recommend armoring the feeder with chicken wire. Otherwise the squirrels will chew that up once the feeder runs out. It may also help with longevity to armor the front with aluminum or stainless steel plate so the pellets don't damage the wood. I just made a feeder...
