How difficult is it and any advice on purchasing the 700mm and just cutting the tube with a hacksaw? I figure just wrap the end with painters tape to keep fraying to a minimum

Is it not a function of your scope mount height, rail angle, etc? Or are you asking at what distance the pellet starts to drop?
