Sounds as if the O-ring for the pressure gauge may have gone bad. Looking at the schematic on the FX Support page I see the part as B-34, #19723. If you are so inclined, I would replace the plastic gasket with an X-ring - 3.63x2.62 NBR70 #19762 is what lists for the MKII.

I recently ordered this suppressor from Wes at AirgunArcheryFun (https://airgunarcheryfun.ca/1-2x20-moderator-us-customers-only-shipped-from-california/) and am testing it on my new Epic Two. Happy with the purchase so far and it is the least expensive unit I found available.

That particular O-ring is difficult and frustrating to get at. When I last worked on my MKII regulator O-rings it was with a pair of Nylon pick tools and the one that worked best was the angled flat tipped unit. It took some time and patience but finally pushing the flat tip behind the O-ring...

I have had my CS-3 for several years now and it just keeps on pumping, although I never allow pressures above 4,000psi. Good to know there is an abundance of head room to these little compressors.

I wonder if that particular piece is only a bearing surface and has nothing to do with pressure. Looking at a similar picture on the Targetforge.net website shows the upper white ring, below the piston top, to have a similar opening...

You could try a neoprene bottle wrap and see if that quiets that perceived 'ping.'

What is the biggest mystery to me has to do with the manufacturers and vendors not making said O-ring sizes known. My guess is their attempt to make additional sales at inflated pricing. GX compressors for example want $9.99 plus shipping for the 'Quick Connector' O-rings (2) and will not...

Looks to be a leak from your pressure gauge. I have had a Sekhmet gauge leak from the face of the gauge before. Having a pressure gauge fail is not unheard of.

Since this discussion is about maintaining the Gx compressors, I wonder if anyone can help me size the O-rings within the fill whip. It seems that the O-rings, there are 2 green O-rings in my Gx CS3-1 fill whip - 1 larger than the other, have broken into several pieces and I am unable to fit...

What kind of critters and at what distances are you talking about? You have mentioned a back yard, but is that a city back yard or a country back yard?
