Well, according to strelok and assuming those 31 gr nsa's you are mentioning are about the same lenght as 30gr HN's with the 1:14 you 'll be getting a stability factor of 2.5 to 2.8 from 820 to 1000fps so from what i understand it is a bit overstabilized but acceptable. If and when i get that barrel i will post some more feedback from 40 to 25gr testing

Cool, I look forward to seeing your results on slugs weights AND sizes that work 😉

Glem, I've thought about that, but I don't even know where to get one of the extensions from?  I looked a while back, but gave up…  I whizzed away a lot of my extra $$ for a while on a 700cc bottle and a couple of 300 bar valves, so I need to wait on whatever I do.

Ignoto, no doubt about that twist rate.  I've pretty much shot the heavy liners from the start for that very reason.  I do wonder how light of a slug that new 14" twist can handle too.  I imagine it'll probably be okay down to the 31.2 grain at least.  The next thing I wonder is what sizing will it prefer.  My 700mm heavy liner definitely prefers the .218 sized slugs, which sucks because the new NSA slugs are only offered in .217 for some crazy reason 🙁

You have to get them from TJs, and they only sell blanks, which means you'll have to get the blank machined to fit your gun.  The biggest advantage to their barrels is you can get them any length you want.  I don't think that this list I'm posting is current, but the contact info is.

The more I think about it, the less likely I am to get an 800mm barrel kit.  This is just my logical mind talking here..  In my case, I'll basically be paying $400 so I can have another 30-40 fps on the very top end.  I've already gotten my Maverick up to 90 fpe.  Is there anything I can't do at 85 fpe that I can do at 95 fpe?  Of course, it isn't all about the top end.  The gun will likely hit the 75 fpe range much easier, and with a better shot count.  Is there a huge advantage to shooting 40 grain slugs vs 36 grain slugs?  If I were in a different place financially, it would be much less of an issue.  I'm just at a point where I'm having a hard time justifying spending $400 for some minimal gains and gun that may not fit my case anymore.

I'm not saying I won't get it at some point, but my brain is talking me out of it at the moment I think.  Don't get me wrong, it would be very cool to be able to say I was able to hit 95-100 fpe with my Maverick in .22.  Is that really worth anything to me other than saying I did it?

Rallyshark, You know you learn something new everyday. I have been shooting my Uragan for 2 years and I always took for granted when it said .30 cal. it meant .308 just like on my 7.62×51 rifles still say .308 and the same in reverse. I did see that NSA does have both pellet slugs in .300 (7.62) and .308 (7.82)

I'm still using the stock Uragan barrel in a 1-12" twist.

We're all learning all the time, no doubt.  God knows I still have a lot to learn myself 🙂

His barrel is a TJs barrel, so it has no choke. Most air guns are .300, and not .308. Keeping it .300 also allows the use of pellets, and there are no .308 pellets.

On that note, what twist is your TJs barrel?? I did one for my maverick, but I used their 16" twist barrel. Is yours the 26" twist?

Great shoot and aim. Taking them down as always. And I can verify his power level, since I shoot with him most Sundays. And he built my Hercules bully for me.

Thanks man!  I gotta test out the ice pick shooter to see if it is up to the task of some real small bore pig hunting.

For sure!  I have tensioned my 32" TJs barrel, and my .177 barrel I machined.  I did more so for consistent POI out of the case, since the machined barrels are far more rigid than a liner barrel is. Tensioned barrels are great for repeatability of POI out of the case, and not having to worry when you bump the gun.

I dealt with constant poi on my maverick. The 600mm barrel was worse then the 500mm. The gun was very accurate but would up to 2 inches off at 25 yards. I felt like I couldn’t trust it to grab and shoot, I always felt like I had to move my scope to the new poi. Yes my scope is good and was tested on another gun. I’m going to watch and see if the tensioned setup helps with this. Hopefully tensioning will help with barrel droop due to moderators.

Tensioning it will help, without a doubt!  You can tension it without buying a new barrel setup though.  You can use a spacer between the back of the shroud and rail supports.  You need the spacer to be just slightly longer than the space between the back of the shroud and the support, then tighten the shroud down to where it compresses the spacer.  The other option is to loose the shroud and use a section of carbon and use the moderator to compress the tube and tension it.

So lucky!  I have always dreamed of getting a pig with an air rifle.  Or any rifle!  Nice shot but the way.

    Thanks!  Where there's a will, there's a way 😉

Nice Pig…. I'm moving to Texas and hope to have some good Hog action, my guns are dying of anticipation… actually it's me that's dying of anticipation…. 🙂

Thanks!  Hopefully, you'll get a chance to get you one soon.  It is a real hoot to do it with an air gun, even more so with a small bore like a .22.  As long as you're patient and take the right shot, you'll get you porker!

My good man, some of your posts about the maverick alone made me join my first online forum. Like you i am waiting on a .22 800mm liner and disassembled the maverick in pieces the next day except it was my first airgun. Nice idea about the double plenum by the way and congratulations on the clean recent shot on the pig. I have been making some changes of mine and some parts like a 20 position power wheel, barrel extenders, airstrippers.. lots of new ideas and little time to test them properly. Anyway i just wanted to be available of any help to you like your posts were to me has i have acess to precision cnc mills and can help you should you ever need.

You are making a difference keep at it!

I appreciate the kind words man!  I'm in the same boat with ideas and time…

Great!!!  You have a true hunter's patience. Very ethical shot placement.  Now, All these hogs need to be removed.  Wild pigs were not native to the eastern US and I believe the javelina is the only " pig " native to the US ( south west).  Farmers, ranchers,  and people raising small livestock and especially children on farmsteads are desperately in need of hog eradication.  It's amazing what a feeding herd of hogs do to the land and anything they take a fancy to eat.  Great shot !!

Thanks!  You're absolutely right, and the farmers kill every one they get a chance to down there in south GA where I shot this one.  Well, the smart ones do.  I saw 100 acre fields completely destroyed by those hogs.  It's just total destruction, so I don't feel bad about shooting them in any way.

Ok i figured something like that, should be doable for me too as metal fabrication was my first education ( machinist )

Oh yeah, you can definitely make yourself one.

Who make that little bag rider ?

I like it more than the large Saber Tactical one.

I made it myself with some aluminum I got from Ace Hardware, and I used a section of an old barrel that I chopped as a spacer.  Then I put a bolt through it and it goes into the rear factory stock screw hole.  I finished it off with some Mossy Oak vinyl to match the rest of the gun.  I still need to camo my carbon shroud too, but I haven't gotten around to it, since I've been working with that TJs barrel to make sure it is a keeper.

@rallyshark She’s a good sized sow. Thanks for sharing the pics, video, and the story. It’s a good thing that you spoke with the property owner before packing that carcass out. She could still be stuffed and mounted as a trophy if you’re inclined to pay a taxidermist for their services. Good work.

For sure, I don't want any poison in me, haha.  I'll be restricting any mounts to skull mounts only, and I'm saving that for a big boar with some good cutters.  That is, if I can manage to get one someday.

Ok, I'll bite. How in the heck are you getting that much juice out of your Maverick?

    Awesome video too!

Thanks, I've put quite a bit of work into that gun to get it where it is.  The main mod list is:  32" TJs barrel(16" twist), single regulator with extra plenum in place of the second, Huma extra high pressure regulator, Huma hammer spring, pin probe, custom 16 gram hammer weight, opened up valve seat to 7.2mm with PEEK poppet.   I'm probably forgetting something, but that should give you a general idea anyway 🙂  The most power I've gotten it up to is with 78 grain slugs going 967 fps.  I chose to use the 67 grain slugs on the hunt, because they fit the magazine.  That way follow up shots are much faster, if needed.  I hope that helps.
