^^^^^^This advice from DesertSilver could save you $$$$$, time, fustration, and neighborhood peace!^^^^^^ IMO, If your backyard is in a more suburban area then a .177 is cheaper, quieter, and safer. A Gamo Urban in .177 would be ideal.

I was 9 years old and got a 1969 Crosman M1. Lots of fond memories playing army with it! I now have a similar M1 rifle (Not wood) with the origional metal magazine and not scared up from slamming the barrel into the ground to cock it! *Borrowed picture
