Need help with cleaning up Sheridan Silver Streak.

.20calguy, Thank you for your suggestion. I have already completed polishing my Silver Streak with Brasso. It looks good, in my book. Photos of it are on the 2nd page of this thread. Thanks again, O'l Travler

SteveP-52, Thank you for your kind words. You are the 2nd person on this forum to mention "Mike" as the person to take this gun to for a rebuild. Who and where is "Mike"? Thank you again, Ol'Travler

Need help with cleaning up Sheridan Silver Streak.

Treefrog, I stumbled into some .20 cal. pellets. I took this gun to show it to the Lady I purchased it from after I cleaned it up. It had belonged to her Father. She told me that she was doing some further cleaning of his home and stumbled into a full Can of Sheridan .20 Cal. Pellets. She...

Need help with cleaning up Sheridan Silver Streak.

Well Gentlemen, My 1952 Sheridan, "Silver Streak" cleaned up rather nicely if I do say so myself. Sadly, upon test firing it I discovered that it is going to need at least a Seal kit. It doesn't hold enough air to dent the bark on a tree 20 feet away. Now I have to decide if this is too...

Wadcutter, Thank you for converting my photos for everyone to see. I also appreciate the confirmation on 1952. This is the first airgun that I have ever owned so I didn't know where to start. The deeper I researched the more excited I became. It's time to get her all cleaned up, put back...

Well, since I'm not seen photos in my post, I guess that I either made a mistake with the upload, or that I haven't yet been given permission to do so. I'll try again at a later date.

Ok, I have taken the Sheridan apart for cleaning and lubricating where needed. I have attached some photos (I hope) to show the age of this airgun. The 3 that matter most the "Knurled Windage adjustment on Rear Sight". These were discontinued in 1953. "Forearm Attached with Roll Pins". This...

Also, I have not fired this gun yet. To my knowledge, and the of the daughter at the estate sale, this gun hasn't been fired since 1986. I don't really know what to expect. I just want it to be functional and help me eliminate a few chipmunks around here! Ol'Travlr

Treefrog, Earlier in this thread you mention not to use Gun Oil on the inner workings of the airgun. I'm ok with that but where and how often should I oil it? Also, How do I test it to see if it is holding proper pressure? Suddenly, proper care for this airgun has become highly important...

Treefrog, WOW! From what I reading on Wikipedia this Airgun may very well be a 1952! I think I'm going to have a STIFF drink and let all this info marinate. Very soon I will post pics and what Wikipedia has said narrowed down the Manufacturing date. Scarry stuff! Ol'Travler

Muddydogz, this sounds very much like the Silver streak that I have. Once I figure out the procedure for posting pics, I'll do so. I have removed the stock to clean it up and to repair 6" crack in the Front Stock. I'd like to get some pics out there before I do something that I shouldn't...

Treefrog, There are no numbers anywhere on this Gun. The Sites are sweated to the right side of the Barrel much like the Barrel is sweated to the "Compression tube". Also what is the procedure to be able to post pictures??? Ol'Travler

Need help with cleaning up Sheridan Silver Streak.

Treefrog, I have decided that my polish of choice will be Brasso. I'll be gentle and careful. I acquired this airgun on a whim and hadn't ever heard of Sheridan Airguns. Once I found out what I have I rapidly became very interested in the history of the Silver Streak. If at all possible I...

Need help with cleaning up Sheridan Silver Streak.

Good morning Treefrog and Westypete. Both of you have suggested some good variations of metal polish. I have some left over Brasso. Will that work on the Plating on the Silver Streak?? My biggest concern is the rust pitting. It's not horrible but it is scattered all over the Barrel...

I'll probably use 0000 steel wool and a fine brush on the Blue steel parts. On the "Silver" areas I'll most likely go with something less aggressive. Thank you for your suggestion.
