Probably shooting it too high pressure, too fast, 870-880 is perfect... i've got a 600mm barrel, and 100m is tough, can't have ANY wind either.

Dovetail is not really put on many new rifles, none in the firearms community. Picatinny is now the industry standard for most optics companies. It costs more to have more than one option. so most companies stick with the pic rail.
