Is there a big difference in sound level between various PCP's? Which ones are considered among the most quiet?

I've been shooting and hunting all my life, but never with airguns. Do you advise starting with a simple break barrel rifle, or jumping right into PCP with all the related paraphernalia? Main use would be for general plinking and target shooting, marksmanship training, perhaps some small pest...
