Slugs now allowed in 100 yard BR at Air Gun Oregon match May 2nd-5th

As long as you are tweaking the rules to see what works, I suggest that you change shooting time from 30 min to 20 min per target. This time is common for many (most) similar score-type formats. --Jim

Results 2023 National 50 Benchrest League Championship - Detail Results

Hi Mike, I would like to know your opinion on another aspect: Should all competitors have to shoot in the same relay? For example, if you have a range with 20 benches and you have 100 competitors, is it a problem since some competitors will, probably, shoot in better conditions than others...

I am curious... what guns are you referring to that are not available to other shooters? --Jim

    air rifle recommendations for NRL22

The Thomas is a fine gun, bit I do not think it would be competitive for NRL/PRS type shooting. --Jim

I agree that you should not change the name of what you define as Benchrest. Given that, what should we call an event that is shot from a bench and rest that does not fit your definition of Benchrest? I do not think we should have to just deny that it exists. If we knew what the elites want...

I think what you are referring to is a rail-gun. I have never seen one that was mass produced, so you would probably have to contact a 'smith to get a quote on building one. I don't know of any competition format that allows the gun or rest to be attached to the bench, but rail guns I have...

Why would you dissuade your competition from using less precise equipment, if they wanted to, if your desire is to win? It would suck to get beat by someone with inferior equipment, but when you beat them others might learn what is really inferior. I have never used a bipod in a...

This is true. In fact, in ISSF competitions when you get to the gold/silver shoot-off, the scoring starts over... even the scores shot in previous levels of the finals do not count. That is remotely similar to the way the finals are conducted at RMAC, EBR, and the like. No way these ISSF...

The one part that I don't understand is the problem with bipods (as long as there is no rule against them). I thought you should be able to use whatever equipment you think best as long as it fits within the rules. --Jim

Hi Lou, I guess "fun shoot format" is in the eye of the beholder (especially when they have never tried it). I do enjoy them even though I don't particularly care for pellet shooting at 100 yards. 50 yd seems a lot more reasonable for pellets (and even for rimfire). The few N50 matches I...

As long as everyone is bitching about "pure" benchrest, I might as well jump in. In N50, one of my favorite formats, there is a rule that if you miss your target far enough to hit the target box, you get a do-over for free. That ain't "pure" benchrest, in my opinion. But, it seems to me that...

Most common BR rifles under 1k

It depends on what format you are shooting. You ought to look into what formats are being contested in your area. The type of benchrest might be a huge factor in what you want to start with. Where I live, benchrest is almost nonexistent. If I shot NRL/PRS-type matches, there would be a...

Most common BR rifles under 1k

I recommend that you look into a used rifle. I purchased a used RAW, 22 cal, for just under $1k. I had a $250 gift certificate, so it was under $750. It is the most accurate (precise) airgun we have, and we have a bunch of them. --Jim
