    Air Rifle Moose!

I finally got it done. I filled my once in a lifetime moose tag with my Hatsan Piledriver.457. It was a tough hunt. My tag was in unit 63a in Idaho which is a short range weapon only hunt. It is legal to hunt with bow, muzzleloader, shotgun slug, pistol or rifle with pistol ammo, and air rifle...

First big game with my Piledriver

I don’t remember exactly how much the taxidermy was but about $500 to flesh and tan the hide. Last years bear was about $2000 for a 1/2 body mount. I never thought bear meat would be fit to eat. As a matter of fact Idaho doesn’t require you to take the meat. That being said, it’s surprisingly...

First big game with my Piledriver

It was a tough hunt. My tag was in unit 63a in Idaho which is a short range weapon only hunt. It is legal to hunt with bow, muzzleloader, shotgun slug, pistol or rifle with pistol ammo, and air rifle. 85% of the unit is private property, irrigated crops. The public land is mostly accessible from...

First big game with my Piledriver

Here is a picture that I got this morning on the game camera. Looking better every day. It is very brushy and thick by the river. Hopefully the leaves will fall soon and should be able to see more.

First big game with my Piledriver

My season actually runs from August 30 to November 23. I feel like a slacker to just be starting to hunt this week but I was busy hunting in Colorado for a couple weeks this month. I am planning to stay until I get the moose. I’m not sure my wife is going to love it but she’s a good sport. We...

First big game with my Piledriver

It’s finally time to get the moose! I have the next month blocked off for the hunt. The season lasts until November 23 but I hope it doesn’t take that long. I have the boat and camper setup and I will start hunting in the morning. Wish me luck!

Thanks. I used a mr hollowpoint 365 gr for the bear. Just got a mold for 500 gr that I am going to try out to see how they fly.

First big game with my Piledriver

I have been doing some scouting and talking to people about the area. Planning to hunt the rut starting the last week of September until I fill my tag. Saw this guy while we were running the river scouting.

First big game with my Piledriver

Took the hide to the taxidermist to get tanned and skull done. He was a fighter and had lots of scars and wounds. Probably wouldn’t make a good rug but I can change my mind anytime. Plus I already have a nice rug and a 1/2 body mount on the way ( last year’s bear) The news just gets better all...

First big game with my Piledriver

Thanks for the kind words. Here’s an update: Found the slug while cutting meat. Split into 2 pieces and was in the off shoulder. Wow, soft lead. Making some breakfast sausage and cured/ smoked hams. Yummy. And rendering down the fat for some good old bear grease!

First big game with my Piledriver

Idaho allows air guns for hunting so I thought I’d see how bear hunting would go. I set out a bait and had bears in a couple days. The big guys only came in the middle of the night but there were some pretty ones in the day. One small red with a white chest but he got a pass for next year. The...
