update: i did get the regulator out. pulling it towards the bottle/muzzle direction from the tube. i think there is a slight scratch on the external o-ring, anyway i tried to sand down potential sharp burrs from the tiny borehole, greased up the o-rings generously and reinstalled the regulator...
