Regarding your original question: the stock screw doesn't enter the air chamber. It cannot be the leak. But in my case, similar, the leak was coming from the breach area, specifically the main valve. You will need to remove the rifle from the stock to investigate.

I had a silencer that started clipping after I applied anti-seize thread paste. Some of the paste wound up on the flat mating surfaces and that was all it took. Cleaned it up and it quit clipping.

Gravity pulls in only one direction: straight down. It doesn't matter about where the stock is placed. It does matter that the scope is directly above the barrel.
