Another thing I forgot to mention is wad cutter pellets in .177. They're a flat nosed pellet that's not aerodynamic and will lose velocity very fast.

Slugs are not as forgiving as pellets. You need the right twist rate for the LENGTH of the slug but it also must fit the bore correctly. Slug the barrel and find out what the groove diameter is. Then get slugs that are.0005 larger than the groove diameter.
