I shot hogs in Texas with my .30 cal Impact and I also shot rabbits in the head from 120 yards in pitch darkness with my night vision scope... typically squirrels don't have enough meat for me to be worth the cleaning and I never chase them. I get your point but for some of us shooting slugs...

With 15 miles of wind at 90 yards it's almost impossible to hit it with a pellet from the first shot, and you have no time for the second...so don't shoot it. Get a cheap blind or a tent and cover it with branches and leaves or camo cover and shoot as many birds as you want from 30 yards away...

I have two PARD NV008S LRF for night vision and they work amazingly well. Can do video too if you want, They can shoot day and night and have very crisp images; also a lot less expensive than thermal. They are very light scopes, and within $1000 it's a really good choice.
