Many petroleum based oils will still deteriorate o-rings. Best to utilize silicone based lubes. On metal to metal (triggers, slides, etc) silicone oil is not recommended.

Your HW97 is fine. Hit then in the head, neck, or around the front shoulders. Many squirrels and rabbits are taken out to 35 yards with 12 fpe rifles. They often flop from reflexes.

Sort of depends on what type of fox. A grey fox is 7 to 11 pounds. That is about the weight of a jack rabbit. Lots of jack rabbits shot with an HW97 (22 cal) level of power out to 35 to 40 yards. A red fox averages 30 pounds and bigger and requires more power.

Have you tried the RWS R10 pellets. I know they are wadcutters, but I get no spiral from them out to 35 yards (my longest test) in both my Hw30 and my Hammerli. They cut the paper targets very cleanly. Nice German made pellets. Best price is at Umarex.

Just an FYI: eventually you are going to find 3 gram and 90 gram cartridges are expensive (about 10 cents a shot). Baker airguns use to sell an adapter so you could just screw in a bulk tank. My 3.5 Oz setup gets over 500 shots on a $5 fill, but it does add some weight to the gun. I can give...
