I'm not looking for the latest and greatest, just an effective moderator at a reasonable price.

Talking diminishing return on investment here. Best (no) bang for the buck so to speak. (pun intended)

Smaller is better. I DO NOT want anything that touches the inner barrel. I've done enough research to know that this can have detrimental affects on accuracy. I also have vast experience with barrel harmonics in centerfire and rimfire rifles. These rifles seem to have great accuracy (aside from the affects of pellet deformation when using the OEM magazine) as designed. If it ain't broke, you can't fix it so please refrain from telling me that I need something to "stabilize" the end if the barrel.
 
Although the moderator looks like a good value, that adaptor encloses the barrel. I can't see how having 3 contact points on the barrel would be beneficial. That goes against everything I have learned about improving accuracy.

If you could post a link that shows beneficial affects of barrel muzzle support in that particular rifle, I would appreciate it.

From what I have seen, it is the OEM magazine that contributes to flyers, not barrel whip.

I just watched the video you linked above and it mentions the OEM magazine "clipping" the pellets at 2:30 and the resulting loss of accuracy. I have also seen reviews of adapters for the AVA that enclose the barrel muzzle and still throw flyers. It was attributed to the need for further tuning but I don't see how whether the barrel is supported at the front or not would contribute to occasional flyers. It would seem to me that flyers due to that would not be occasional

Before I use an adaptor that encloses the barrel muzzle I will try shooting with the single shot tray as well as the OEM magazine.

They are very reasonable on shipping BTW. These magazines also fit the AVA.

After talking at length with Mike at tko22 I think I will give the DonnyFL 1/2-20 extender/adaptor a try.

I think I'm going to go with the tko22 1" moderator coupled with the DonnyFL 1/2-20 extender/adaptor

Mike and I talked at length about how the pellet traveling through the moderator could be affected even if it did not actually "clip" the inside of the moderator. It is imperative that the projectile be centered as much as possible to minimize any detrimental outcome due to the "Bernoulli's principle". He also advised that going one caliber bigger to offset these effects will degrade the effectiveness of the moderator on DB levels.

Bernoulli Principle: In fluid dynamics, Bernoulli's principle states that for an inviscid flow, an increase in the speed of the fluid occurs simultaneously with a decrease in pressure or a decrease in the fluid's potential energy.



No actual "data" as of yet, but YouTube videos seem to show that the tko22 moderator to be quite effective.

I also like the 1" OD. With a "squared cut" on the threaded end, it will blend seamlessly with the barrel shroud of the AVA. Besides, he gives a money back guarantee.

This video shows the Db reduction. on a different air rifle. 95.4 DB without the moderator at 1:04, 74.6 Db with the tko22 moderator at 2:54.

I don't have a DB meter but the reduction in sound is very noticeable. I am quite pleased.



Accuracy with the DonnyFL 1/2-20 extender/adaptor seemed to improve. It certainly didn't deteriorate.





3 shots @ 25yds, 14.3gr Crosman Premier HP, .250" OA, .033" C-C. I haven't been able to get to the range for 50yd testing on a calm enough day to judge the longer range accuracy.





10 shots at 25yds. 5 with 14.3gr .22 Crosman Premier HP. 5 shots with 22gr .22 FX Hybrid Slugs

Did you get just the DL extender, or did you also put a moderator on and if so which one?

I started with a Kratos, which was very quiet, but it had problems. Sent it back to Crosman and bought a avenger in the mean time. The Avenger is quite a bit louder, and I would like quieter for the yard, and for hunting. 

The Kratos just go back and Crosman replaced it under warranty. BEAUTIFUL piece of wood, and I like some of its features better than the avenger, sound being one of them, but also the Avenger is out shooting the Kratos so far at least with my limited selection of pellets I have fed it.

It is my first PCP and I thought it shot amazingly until I got the Avenger. I am a sucker for pretty wood, but really its about the hole downrange, so struggling with the decision to keep Kratos, or put a moderator on the Avenger. I do already have the DL extender which centers the barrel.
