Tuning Diana RWS LP8 Help

Does anyone know the correct length of a new LP8 main spring ? I read a LP8 disassembly post that stated it is 7 1/8" but don't know if it was an old or new coil. .

The reason I ask is because I just got a new main spring from a reputable Diana Rep and it measures 8 1/8". When I question it they sent an email to their supplier and said it is the correct spring. If anyone know how long their spring is please let me know. Thanks.

I recently purchased a new lp8 are you going to tune your pistol? I am interested in results or if you have done any trigger modifications?

I had John In PA do a trigger job and it came out great. However, it's super easy to do. Here's a link that will show you how to do it.

I have the carbine because the pistol is to heavy to shoot the long sessions I do. Also, the carbine is a LOT more accurate for me.Let me know if that link worked for you.

Thanks for the help, I just sent my pistol to John in PA to tune. Did the tune he did help with some of the spring twang?

John didn't do a tune, just a trigger job. However, after doing a download of a couple links on the LP8 I certainly could have done it myself.

I don't have any twang with the original spring, it's smooth and shoots and average 584.1 fps after putting it over the Chrony today.

I had put a different coil in it the other day that I got from another vendor that was supposed be a Diana coil, but it measured 7 7/8" with 27 coils, When I shot it , it had a terrible twang. It was averaging 608 fps but the twang was to bad and it kicked more than I liked. I put the original coil back in and it shot the wan I liked and was satisfied with the Chrony results.

I took the 3 new coils and cut them to the 7 1/8" and 24 coils.

I little tip: Keep an eye on the "Pivot Screw", it it loosens even a little your groups will start to wander. Just make sure it's tight, not over tight just not loose. I found out the hard way thinking something was wrong internally but it was only the loose screw.

I absolutely love my LP8 . However,at 75 I never would be able to handle the weight of the pistol and opted for the carbine. I shoot one 75 shot card a day ( over an 8 hour period ) and never would be able to do that with the pistol, nor get the amazing accuracy I get with the carbine.

I thought so much of the carbine after seeing it's capability that I ordered the "Rink" stock below for it.

Wow! That is super nice! I would be interested in how far you shoot it and accuracy. Post a picture of your groups one day. Happy Easter!

Here's some 5 shot,10 yard groups with Falcon 7.33 pellets. This LP8 isn't very pellet picky, but the Falcon and JSB 7.33 and AA and JSB 7.87 are the best.

I shoot 10 yards mostly in my basement but also shoot 15 and 20 yards with good results.

fsa46,

I really like the stock on that carbine! It is gorgeous.

I have a new LP8 just out of the box and am going to polish the trigger up. Also looking to get some wood grips for it as well.

The next thing I want to have done to it is have a custom spring guide made for it.

I also included a link for polishing the trigger group in case you haven't already seen it.

fsa46,

Thanks and yes, I'd seen that link and captured it.

Please tell me a bit more about the spring guide please. Is it the piston spring you are referring to and if so, what does the guide do for you? What is the material of construction and where do you source that?

The spring guides that come with most springers are loose fitting and cause the twang or buzz you hear when shooting. A custom fitted spring guide is tighter fitting eliminating they twang.

Most custom spring guides are made of delrin but some are made of metal. Do a search on "custom spring guides" and you can get an idea what they do.

Motorhead is one of many guys that can make a custom guide for you. However, you would need to send your spring and guide to anyone making one for you, so they can fit it properly.

fsa46,
I am interested in doing, or having done, a trigger job on a Diana LP 8. I went to the website you recommended, but unfortunately it's all in German, and I don't speak German. Can you describe briefly what you did? Do you know if John in PA is till adjusting these triggers? Do you know of any other websites that might be helpful?
