Beeman RX 1

They are based on a Theoben adjustable gas ram. I have one tuned down to 12 FPE. Love it. Very accurate when supported just in front of the trigger guard. Do you have any specific questions? If you are looking at one please tell us how much it is, we can tell you if it's a good deal or if you should consider others.

Looking at a .20 caliber, looks to be in excellent condition. On auction site so not sure of what the final price will be? Any help re pricing would be appreciated.

Are there issues with barrel droop with this model?

Never had any droop issues with mine. I bought mine directly from Beeman when they were in Santa Rosa California. I think it was between $500 and $600. Beeman would take trade-ins back in 1990-91 (??) so I traded in a Theoben Scirocco Classic as collateral towards the RX. The RX was Beemans first venture into gas-spring technology. Mine had a hang-fire issue and they upgraded it to the RX1. What is the auction price right now ?

Not really an answer to your question. I have an RX2 in .20 and love it. Back in early to mid 2000’s when I bought it I put a Bushnell Trophy 6-18 on it. They are solid scopes. The RX knocked the turrets loose!

The Trophy was swapped for a Bushnell Elite and been strong ever since.

I’m sure you already know but they are a bit of a bitch cocking. Super smooth but takes some oomph.
Great for hunting but plinking gets to be a bit much.

i have only had one problem the entire time I have had it. Six months into owning it the ram lost pressure. Back then Beeman was still local in HB and Dave Slade fixed it while I waited.

i love my RX and doubt I would ever part with it but with all the pcp options I find I don’t shoot the magnum spring guns as much anymore . And I type that after I just bought TWO Kodiaks off Craig’s List yesterday. Lol

Cocking weight on the RX1/2 at factory pressure setting, 48 lbs.

R1 (not carbine) 34 lbs.

A cousin of mine had an RX1 and it was a lot to plink with. He once let the barrel slip while cocking and the resulting bent barrel was alarming. He had it repaired and as far as I know still has the gun to this day. This was back in the early 90s.

Very accurate and powerful. Not light weight either.

Wow ! 48 lbs ! I was younger when I had mine and cocking effort didn't bother me that much. It was as accurate as it was powerful. It thrived on Beeman Silver Jets at 11 gr. @ 910 fps

Why has the .20 caliber been discontinued?

I think most shooters who wanted something larger than .177 cal just thought their wasn't enough size increase going to .20 cal so they went the .22 cal route. Once the .25 cal came on the scene and gained in popularity the .22 cal became the "split the difference" choice. Before the .25 cal was widespread the .20 cal was the caliber of choice. Flatter trajectory of the .177 cal with the near impact of .22 cal. That's why many (including myself) went with the .20 cal back in the 80's and 90's. With airgun power increasing lately the .22 cal nicely fits between the .20 cal and .25 cal. Just my two copper coins worth of opinion.

Will the .20 ever make a come back? I try to make a point to never say never, but the odds are against it. Choices in new guns produced in .20 are limited, and the same goes for ammo. Check what PA offers in .20 ammo; six choices (seven if you include cleaning pellets, lol). While in .22, they offer six pages of pellets and slugs; at 20 per page. That's not all that are available in either caliber, but gives you an idea of the market.
