Folks around here have no issue shelling out US$3K or more for a custom sporting clays shotgun.... see tricked out AR's everywhere around the same or more price point, guy down the road from here is building semi-custom AK platforms, and they aint cheap. He has a waiting list....

Competition guns have been north of $3k for a while, so a competition BW @$5k isn't unexpected, but it is unrealistic. I'm sure it's based on projections of number that they can sell and the profit margin.
No, they are not targeted at the hobby airgunner. Personally, I don't care what they ask for it, I'm not a buyer. I actually think any airgun north of $2k is out of reason, at least for me.

Very true. 3k for a clay gun is actually on the upoer cheap side. Probably more middle.

Talk about cra-cra, I was at Cardinal 2 years ago for a major trap shoot and the guys there were telling me that many of the guns were in the $40-60K range.
