Scope recommendations

A lot of different scopes are close in quality and price. I would determine what features you like best or need for what you plan to use it for and mention those as well. Me, I really want to have thin reticles and floating center dot but I do more target shooting than most. Others like heavy reticles that are better seen in low light conditions or dark back grounds.. Both of my 100 yard rifles have Vortex Stike Eagle 5-25 on them if you care to look at those. I bought mine for under $600 a couple years ago when they listed for $799.
P.S. I will warn that the side focus turret turns pretty hard, you would do best to buy a 3D printed assist wheel to make it easier to turn.:D
Thx
Dan

I think 5 power would be fine for 15 yards which is what the closest focus is on the Strike Eagle. there are lots of option out there so think about what features you want. I just took my Strike Eagle out to look and I can find my target quickly at 5X. BUT, as I said the side focus turrets turn very hard so you would do well to buy a side wheel to help turn it!!! My fingers are sore from turning from 25X down to 5X :D
At 5X the center center dot is very small but the crosshairs still give you an aiming point. that is if you decide to go Strike Eagle..
Thx

Hello, new to the scope market. I just ordered a Vulcan 3 700mm (.25)
I will use it for pesting with pellets: 20y-100y and target shooting with slugs up to 150 yard.
I am looking for a FFP scope that can fit my needs. Budget is 500/800 dollars.
Thanks for your input
Runs about a thousand, but the Delta Javelin would be a boss investment with that set up and dual parameters. FFP, 5-30x50 or 56 . Clear glass.

Cendre,

I have a tool for you for your scope shopping:
A Scope Specs Table.
I'll attach the one for your preferred magnification range below. Close to 100 scopes to choose from.

🔸️The Specs Table allows you to compare scope specs side by side — to help you make up your mind what you really want for your application.

🔸️One issue you already mentioned are close range pesting shots.
➠ Read some recommendations in the intro to the Specs Table (field of view at low magnification being the critical feature).

🔸️All scopes in the table have:
▪︎ 10y min. parallax (a few 15y)
▪︎ holdoff reticle
▪︎ expose turrets

🔸️You get specs like:
▪︎ price and type of warranty
▪︎ weight and length
▪︎ field of view
▪︎ separated into FFP and SFP
▪︎ MIL or MOA
▪︎ max. elevation adjustment (for your 100y shots)
▪︎ illunination or not
etc. etc.

Happy scope shopping! 😊

Matthias

With scopes you get what you pay for. Glass quality is China, Philippines Japan and Germany, the best. Chinese glass has improved, look at Athlon. If you can find German Shott glass for under $1500 let me know. I like FFP(first focal point) and 30mm tubes. You have to decide on the reticle, some are very "busy". Look at Burris signature Zee rings with inserts, they won't damage your scope. 34mm tubes get you more vertical adjustment, not better glass are heavy and huge.

Shooting close range you do not need an expensive scope, simple as that, maybe get a Red Dot,plus a fairly good scope, you can get them both for your price range. If you do want just one scope then by all means get a good scope.I am finding I like over 40 mm. bell,You going to be loooking for a shorter ,lighter scope,by doing that your choices become less, and that is what you want;I say this because when it comes to opinions on scopes, everyone has different eye sight...Some of the better scope are long and heavy, forget about them you are a hunter. Make your seach fun and get a piece of paper and write down the scopes you are interested in and compare them on your piece of paper, look at wthe weight, length coatings and how well it fits Your wants and your guns needs. Oh yea, make sure that the scope has AO and can focus down to your shooting ranges (y)
