We Need A New Forum Section For Machine Work

I'd like to learn more about threading on the lathe. I feel like it could be easier to cut 1mm and less thread pitch with a full form/laydown insert. Any opinions?
I thread upside down in reverse to prevent crashing since I don't have a clutch or stop. I have an imperial lead screw with an electronic controller replacing the change gears so all that is a touch of a button but I have to leave the half nut engaged. So after each pass I power back close and then turn the chuck by hand to reach my start point again.

I had an ancient lathe years ago that didn't have a thread dial, so I kept the half nuts engaged the whole time I was threading ..... ran it in forward to cut, then in reverse (with the half nuts still engaged) to walk it back for the net pass. Slow, but it worked.

I have submitted a report to bring this thread to the admin level for consideration 👍

It may fit into the How To category section.

I don't think it fits in the how to section. We want to post airgun and airgun accessory machining projects and discuss them or post questions on how to machine airgun parts. It's nothing like a how to but thanks for forwarding.

Something so we can post

"Look what I made with my Harbor freight $600 lathe!"

Or

"Is it possible to used this $400 used LittleMachineShop lathe to turn down and fit a barrel on my pp750?"

Maybe

"Now that I bought a lathe what tooling do i need?"

Of course for me it would be..

"I think I fugged up, can someone tell me how to fix it?" 🥴

Pretty much what I like to see. My lathe is from a known AG Smith.
He wanted a bigger lathe and We made a deal. Mine's a hopped up HF 7X14.
It was well worn but worth every penny and replacing some parts it's worth it to me.

Heck yes we need this. Doesn’t have to be restricted to those with lathes and mills either. I’m fortunate enough to have both, but there was a time when my project dreams exceeded my tool budget by about a million times (as opposed to the mere thousand times they do now) and that disparity led to some creative workarounds. Maybe a broader machining/home customization sub forum would get enough play to justify its existence?
