FX If you could start over with unlimited budget...

Hello, I am new to this forum and PCP air rifles. However I have been shooting, hunting, and playing paintball for over 20 years. I recently moved to a 12 acre farm with tons of space for targets and pests to eliminate. I have decided to purchase an air rifle, most likely something from FX unless one of you changes my mind. I also know I will need to purchase some supporting accessories like a scope, compressor, tanks, mods, etc.

My question is: If you could do it all over with an unlimited budget what would you buy?

My current thinking:

FX Dynamic, 500, .22 - a little shorter for hunting with pellets
Some element scope - open to suggestions
GRS top mount bipod
Donny FL moderator - open to suggestions
Some type of tripod - open to suggestions
Compressor - maybe something I could use to fill paintball tanks and the airguns

What am I missing? What would you do? Any thoughts, opinions, suggestions greatly appreciated. I will be making purchases based on your input.
 
Starting over with or without an unlimited budget, I would spend less money on the poorly built and designed airguns from China and more on the guns from manufactures of quality and good customer support. I would also purchase scopes of higher quality; optics and feature-sets. And lastly, I would look into casting and pressing my own ammunition. Yep, saving some of what I have spent on trifles and purchasing better quality would, in my opinion, beat having a number of air gun equipment with issues. YMMV

I still don't know what you're going to do with it. What kind of pests are we talking about, at what range? Squirrels at 40y and coyotes at 100y are wildly different situations. A coyote gun will splatter squirrels.

That said, if I got to go back to my 15 acre farm and handle the pests I occasionally encountered there, of my airguns I think I would keep my .30 RAW or .22 FX Crown. I was mostly taking out groundhogs and I wanted some head-piercing power. Inside the barn I would take a match air rifle because I shot wadcutters at low power and close range. Don't want to blow through the sparrows and punch holes in the roof!

Thank you so much for your input and opinions. My use case is plinking targets and hunting squirrels, maybe racoons / possums. Most shots I would be taking at game would be within 100 yards but I do have the option of shooting at about 400 yards for targets in my field if I would like. I don't like the huge length that most long range slug air rifles have which is why I was looking at the shorter dynamic dreamline. When I started looking into this a few months back I liked the impact m3 as well but because I have been shooting rifles and shotguns for years I kind of liked the idea of a more "conventional" looking air rifles like the panthera or dreamline. Also, I think the m3 is due for an update. Looking into the taipan veteran 2 now as well

Need more info on what you want from a gun. Usage and preferred configuration ie bullpup, standard, pistol grip etc.

I'd get a Taipan Veteran 2 but not everyone likes a bullpup.

you can fill small tanks with a 1-2 cylinder compressor, but small stuff like maybe 2 liters that people would carry on the back in paintball.
But a big worth while tank 6.8 liters and up, well you need a big boy compressor, and those do not come cheap, the starting price here is pretty much the same as a quality air rifle from a reputable brand.

Of course you could get a big tank and have it filled 1 time at a dive shop or similar, and then use a smaller compressor to boost that back up after every time you have used it, but if you have drained your big tank down from 300 BAR to say 200, then i think that is almost too much to ask a little compressor to replenish, for sure you want it on a timer so it can stop and cool down now and then CUZ its going to take a while too.

My own Chinese copy of a Italian compressor with 4 cylinders, it boost my 12 L bottle from 180 BAR back up to 300 BAR in 15 minutes or so.
That in turn will see me shooting my .177 air rifle a lot during a summer month, so only refill my 300 BAR 12 L tank once a month, but i shoot connected to the big bottle, if i was to fill small rifle tank and then disconnect, well with just 180 BAR in a rifle that would / could take 300 BAR, it will mean substantially less shots in a .177 rifle like mine before i hit the 100 BAR pressure i shoot with.

A .22 will use more air, but with a 12 L 300 BAR bottle, you will still get a lot of shots during a month, at least if you shoot tethered like i do, if you fill and shoot, ideally you will want to fil about as high as you can every time.

And that cheap Chinese compressor was still 1200 USD or so, the actual Italian compressor it copy i recon cost at least 2000 USD

I was in your position a few years ago. I looked at and researched many PCP air rifles.
I won't go through the long story, but I ended up going to a somewhat local airgun shop with a stack of Benjamins in hand with every intention of coming home with a new gun. It was down to an FX Maverick or RTI Prophet. I was leaning more towards the RTI for its simplicity as compared to the FX but wanted to hold and look over both, take to an actual human before letting go of my cash.
They only had the RTI in a compact, so at that point I was leaning towards the Maverick but then their computers went down and the guy behind the counter would not sell me either. I told him I had cash, and knew enough math to calculate the tax and was not even worried about him making change, but he would not budge.

So, I went home and checked with my friend at Talon Tunes, He not only had the Prophet I wanted but had it priced the same as the Compact I had just fondled. At that point I forgot all about the FX and orders my Prophet.
I have had no regrets either. Love the gun. I can get it out at any time and it just does what I expect it to do!

All that said, If I could start over with an unlimited budget, I would still get the Prophet................and the Maverick both!

I got the Maverick, but if i had the money back then i would have gotten the impact, or maybe one of the fancy daystate rifles which in Denmark carry a substantial premium.

I would also have bought a brand compressor, but still a proper 3-4 cylinder one, but i am hoping with as little as i fill the Chinese compressor will still be kind to me, had i been a diver or something needing to fill one or more bottles every week, for sure i would have looked at a brand compressor.

hard to beat Daystates 5 year warranty!
The Wolverine .25 will handle most anything, the .177 is great for small stuff
tripod = trigger stick
compressor - a nice used Bauer dive compressor or a new Alkin
tanks - buy a white whale
scope- sightron S-tac 4-20x50
practice 10 yards to 70 yards with lots of standing shots - aim small miss small

Honestly, the older FX Crown hits a sweet spot for efficiency, capacity, simplicity, high quality, light weight, superb balance and accuracy. Typically use mine in the brush under 75yrds using a short 380mm barrel. Not so much a fan of the newer FX stuff. But I'd be really hard pressed to find another gun that ticks all the boxes this one does without doing some custom work to it.

Of course, I'm a sucker for wood and a traditional layout. There are a ton of awesome guns available. Aaa, agt, Taipan, daystate, brk, ect. All mentioned are very good manufacturers.

3rd time this morning I've seen you ADAMANTLY express your opinion. To which FX PLATFORMS are you referring? Have you tried them all or just making a blanket statement based on narrow experience? I have "no use" or love for some of their offerings but great affection & respect for others. I don't vehemently trash the whole company because of my dislikes.
