For golf balls and bottle caps, I suggest at least a .50 cal.

Definitely plan on it, but the gun first. I've gotten pretty used to pumping them, though. The pressure doesn't bother me nearly as much as volume. Pumping 4K is a breeze, just can't keep it up for too long lmao.

I bought a really small compressor on Amazon to have in the SUV. It is really small and affordable ( It should had been made in an enemy country because the manometer is Mpa instead of Bar of Psi - used by civilized world-).

Others may disagree but if I were shooting coyotes I wouldn’t go with any less than a .30. I’m assuming you won’t need to fire a large number of shots between fills and I tend to try and use more than I think I need so wouldn’t use a .25. Get some practice so you can make clean one shot kills.

When I was big into airguns (we're talking back when Marauder first came out), compressors were expensive af. I actually worked at my buddy Bruce's shop building some of the more affordable ones. Nowadays, they are cheap. Gonna pick one up soon for sure.

I do intend to. As a rule, I try not to rely on body shots with airguns, so probably would aim for headshots. I'm no sniper, but if the gun is able, I can print sub-MOA at a 100yds no problem...with firearms, at least. As far as airguns go, we were plinking nickel sized pebbles with my Zbroia at 70 yds off a bench, and that's in .22. I assume .25 would have better ballistics, so shouldn't be a problem.

I just ordered an Uragan 2, 700 in .25 from Tony at Talon Tunes. It's in the mail as of today. Tony called me on the phone to ask how I wanted the rifle setup? Trigger, power, etc. Outstanding service!
I bought it to use primarily as my coyote calling rifle. I personally will not shoot past 50yds on a coyote since shot placement is so critical for coyotes with an airgun. But that's just me, others may do differently. I call coyotes that don't get shot because they do not make that 50yd range before they become wise to what's going on. All fine by me as I am hunting them with an airgun for the added challenge vs. using a firearm.
I agree that a .25 or .30 are just fine so long as you are realistic about the distance you shoot.

I've never killed a coyote but I will add my 2 cents. If you go for brain shots and not body shots I don't see why you need a 30 caliber or more. A 25 caliber pushing a 33.95 grain pellet over 800 fps should work fine to at least 50 yards. Hits beyond that would seem significantly more iffy due to trajectory and wind. If you might need to take the occasional body shot then I would probably get a Crosman bulldog 35 caliber. That will make trajectory challenging for long shots but will poke a big enough hole you have a good chance to recover the animal if you place the shot well.
If you are going to hand pump it and if your main use is hunting I would not get a bottle gun. You aren't going to get dozens of shots and hand pumping a good sized bottle seems like a form of torture. The more powerful the gun the more air it needs, however, and the curve is not linear. A bulldog will only give you a few shots per fill but it would seem to be reasonably hand pump friendly. If you don't want to plink or target shoot and avoid guns that store a lot of air I don't see why you have to have a compressor.
If you decide you will be OK with only head shots and want to go with a 25 there are tons of models. I just tuned my little P35 in 25 caliber to just south of 50 fpe but I think it is still light for this (but a ton of fun). An Avenger or Avenge X (preferably) would fit your price ranges and is capable of a little more power. Probably about 60 fpe. I would only use domed pellets for this. It will maximize the penetration. To reduce the choices to a manageable level you might want to start with bullpup versus conventional gun. I personally really like my bullpups but I don't like taking shots less than 20 yards away due to their high scopes.

+1 I would definitely recommend Derrick from tenacious Airguns. I was recently interested in a similar, set up and wound up purchasing a tuned Uragan 2 .25 from him shooting 36 gr slugs with excellent results at 100 yards off of a bipod.what he said except I would purchase it from a well known tuner who is a member here on the forums zx10wall ( Derrick ) He shoots with Team Centercut and does a lot of extras on all the pcp's he sales on his website . Trigger work and ( much more ) He also can tune it for you at your request to what ever you need it for saving you the trouble and time of doing it yourself LOL.
A shameless plug for him I know LOL . Plus he is closer to your location in texas if you need further assistance in the future .
As for your friends lower budget bigragu has something for sale in his price range haha. another plug I know .

That is a nice group. I just ordered a 700mm one from TalonTunes, Tony threw in a tin of 33gr JSBs to try (I have some 25.4gr ones). Wondering if it's overpowered from the factory, maybe bring it down a bit to increase shot count and noise.

It’s going to have plenty of power with the factory settings. Have Tony set it up to your preferred velocity. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised how quiet it shoots.
