Snowpeak New SPA M60 Coming for those who love tinkering

Great first look review Terry! Looks like it isn't too fussy with pellets or slugs.
The main order of these is finally supposed to ship later this week from China. I've had all kinds of delays getting these in, so I apologize to those that have been waiting.
If this one has a barrel like all my SPA guns have it won't be fussy about ammo.

Thank you Terry for your intro to this. Interesting item. A lot of YouTube videos about the SPA (or Fox in some markets) M60 in other languages, some of which seem to mention a degree of regulator inconsistency, especially if you take quick follow up shots. Once you get into it further I'd be interested whether you are seeing that or whether that may be an early production issue (it was on the non-B/ pre-B versions).

Indonesian intro/overview here on YouTube, of a "Greyhound M60B" which looks like the SPA. YouTube's translate seems to work.

The video is more of an overview/ marketing intro than a user review, _but_ one noteworthy detail is that there's a quick disconnect fitting, under a dustcap, directly on the adapter that holds the bottle on the gun. Hopefully a sign of things to come and/or maybe available as a part/accessory for ones that may have come through without that.

Wes has mentioned on another forum that he's supposed to be getting upgraded valves with that feature. Obviously I'm going to want one.

I see that Krale now lists SPA M60B in stock in .30 cal and .35 cal, and indicates the following specs for velocity and energy (below)

Mighty intriguing for a rifle in this price category, especially if the accuracy is as good as is reported for the already-available smaller bores.

I wouldn't want the "feed bill" for regular use in the larger bores. But from seeing online disassembly videos of the M60B (looks basic and intuitive with a set of hex keys) it'd be mighty interesting if it might (someday) be possible to acquire an extra set of barrel/probe in the larger calibers (hard to know, yet, if regulator or other parts (regulator, hammer spring, other) would vary substantially), to swap for different seasons/ tasks.

7.62 mm / .30
mps 243 / fps 800
87 j / 64.2 fpe

9 mm / .35
198 mps / 650 fps
102 j / 75.2 fpe

Wes in Canada mentioned on another forum that he will be getting some of the .30 and .35 in a future batch.

I’m wondering if you can just block off the three tp holes and just clock the valve right under the barrel port.

If one of the four line up you can but still needs a bigger tp hole if you only use one. I say drill the holes out and use a diamond ball head tool to round the edges for better airflow. Spa airguns don't really care about rounding of sharp edges ;)

The valve has multiple exhaust ports instead of one large port. This design should be less efficient then the 1 port. Too many directions and gaps to fill before hitting the pellet=loss of pressure and less fps. Same with fx pellet probe styles vs pin probes. More efficient with pin probes.

Another problem is, the exhaust path is criss crossed instead of straight port up. (Stupid) one of the stupid things i just found out. And no the plenum cannot be bored out. You can add a plenum on the side via 8mm gauge port or make a 10mm threaded hole to mount a larger plenum.

I dont see this thing going more than 60 fpe in 22 cal. It would be bery hard to do it.!!!
60fpe in22 for an airgun is pretty high soooo

My P35 in 25 came tuned to shoot JSB 33.95 grains at about 750 fps. That's a bit slow but 42 fpe. It's plenum is quite small too. It shoots H&N FTT best and since they are only 20 grains I turned the regulator down to slow them to 875 fps. The 18 squirrels it has taken for me seemed to think the 32 fpe was plenty.

But if the 30 and 35 have the same small plenum and flow limiting parts, it's curious SPA even bothered. Be interesting to know what they can do and whether internal parts have been changed for the larger calibers.
