Left PayPal a year ago,.....it sure has its drawbacks.

When I left I didn't realize it would have made things that much harder, I can deal with the inconvinience of quick and convinient money transfers from my side but now I've lost several sales because I didn't realized how much people nowadays just deal with those types, it seems people don't even know anymore how to use USPS money orders or bank cashiers check, some don't even know they exist,

very sad how progress actually makes people significantly more stuck into things being done for them, soon nobody wont even know how to drive because cars will do everything for them, sad.

"very sad how progress actually makes people significantly more stuck into things being done for them" The (not so) gradual dumbing down & lazying down of society! Motivation for people to become the most competent & able they can be is down the toilet IMHO.

You guys sound like old timers complaining about the times changing. Lol

But seriously, if I really want something that’s in the classifieds, I’ll go get a money order, but I’m not going out of my way if I’m on the fence. PayPal and venmo make it easier for me to fall off the fence and just impulse buy.

I’ve made the point many times (although some people just hate to hear it), PayPal is about convenience.

Dropping PayPal, for whatever your reason is, is fine, but there’s a price to be paid for doing so. If it’s worth it to someone, then they should absolutely go ahead and drop them.

For me, and for the vast majority of people, PayPal is a convenient, fast, and easy way to pay for stuff with very little downside. Can it go wrong? Of course it can, but so can everything else

Agree, definitely give up a ton of convenience without it.

but still I'm shocked so many people don't even know USPS money orders even exist and how to use them.

As a buyer PayPal G&S arguably gives me some recourse if sale is not on the up and up. Sending money order, check, cash transfer (Venmo, F&F, etc) to someone I don’t know and have never dealt with isn’t going to happen.

If I don’t know you well , I don’t automatically trust you.

Agree, even when I had PayPal I would only buy from people I've seen and interacted for several years on the forums.

Well, they suck, there's that.

PayPal is all done from a mobile platform or PC, and before all you adorable little luddites start throwing your slide rulers at me, you are posting here on one...

Paper cashiers checks and postal money orders are faked all the time, it takes a LOT of time to get one in some areas and they are all but obsolete.

Uhmmm, hello..... Do you want a wake up call? I tried 7 times to cash a USPS money order................and they never have the cash. One time it was soon after a customer in front of me bought several money orders with.............CASH.................oops, "sorry we can't cash that $75 money order" we don't have the cash 😡🤬

Oh I'm awake fortunately. The wake up call has yet to be seen. It's being forced to be that way. I totally see and understand your point. I have never had a credit card, an auto loan, a house loan. I have never borrowed fake money that doesn't exist and paid interest on it. I retired at 56 and own everything I have and want for nothing. Hold on tight.

I've never tried to cash one at the PO, but I've never had a problem with one at the bank.

Yeah, never had a credit card in my life, never financed anything ( if I don't have the money I don't buy it ) still use a flip Phone.
still go to the bank to do my transactions,.......I really liked PayPal but was hearing a few horror stories, maybe I jumped the gun and considering to re-open it.

Still have PayPal, still use PayPal. Have no plans to drop them.

You do realize that PayPal has been around since 2000. Nearly as long as the Internet. Some of you guys are so far beyond on progress, but that's your choice. My dad also rejected the computer age - but again his choice. I cringe when I go to the grocery store and the person in front of me pulls out their checkbook as there goes about 5 minutes of my life while the cashier has to figure out what to do to, wait for it, electronically process the check on the spot through the cash register.........

Wait until they just take your money. Have you ever read the fine print my friend? Have you read the information and all the little details when you opened your bank account? I'm not tooting my horn but I'm a trader and understand these markets and who runs them. That money in paypal is not yours and they can tell you ooops sorry we need it now thank you and there isn't a thing you can do about it. Although you are also talking to a ex communications tech and help build the backbone of what we all communicate is on these days puts me at understanding this stuff pretty good. Electronic means of exchange is totally awesome until you lose control. Do you realize we are losing our world reserve currency status? PayPal is the last place I would have any funds these days. Split it up, gold, silver, property, all hard assets and don't leave to much in the bank that they will automatically tell you is now a digital dollar and cash is gone. The day cash is gone is the day it is all over with for anyone, if you do not have control of your money. One day PayPal will say, "Sorry CTShooter you can't buy that cool ass PCP gun because we don't like them. They have already tested the waters on that.

Personally I could never get my bank or some crap verified even though it had been verified. I lost plenty of perfectly good life just trying to remedy that, which never happened. To each his own, I'm just putting out what I know and my experience.

Meh...

years ago when Ebay was setup and little different you could find out if a certain gun seller had a Ebay account through their email address and if they had a Ebay account they had an PP account, can no longer do that
but my point is a PP account cannot be screw with by the owner, you have to be honest or you will lose the account
the fact that time has bought progress to our lives is a moot point because if there was never progress this forum would not exist
is PP bad, NO IT IS NOT, it is a tool to move money, i am 73 and i for one love Pay Pal and if you use it great, if you don't well i will just shake my head

and just because you closed that PP account does not stop from opening one back up but of course you could program your car to drive you too the USPS branch, but you will have to go wait in line and take the CASH OUT OF YOUR CHECKING ACCOUNT OR PAY CASH because they don't take credit cards

i will sit on my A$$ and use Pay Pal every time

just my opinion no more no less

I could never get it set up completely and have never used it. With all due respect, sitting on our asses is exactly why the good ole US of A is in the crapper and will never be the same again. Most just don't see the absolute devastation coming through the financial system but they surely will real soon. This isn't about PayPal itself, it's about the system it's a part of. Those out there who think things will just keep on cruising along the way they are are fools. People don't see they have groomed the whole freaking world to think it's all good because it's quick and easy. I have been purposefully doing things old school and learning how they did it back before I was even born. I'm shocked at the ignorance from a group like this. All people care about and are thinking about is me mine and I want it now, faster faster I'm in a hurry. I'm programmed that way too, especially when I want an air gun. The UPS guy doesn't get here quick enough for me. It's terrible.

I'm not trying to bust anybody's chops, finances are in my wheel house and I just try and educate others who do not see the train wreck ahead. Actually we have already crashed, it's just the slow motion scene is all. If anyone watches mainstream news and believes what is said in the financial part is sadly misinformed. It's all 100% lies and BS. The stock market is not the gauge of how things are going, it's the bond market and the 2 and 10 year yield curve. Take cover folks.

I commend you for standing up for what you believe in and putting up with the inconvenience it brings. I really wish I had it in me to go there with paypal. Guess we all have to pick where we draw our lines. If I drew one everywhere my instinct told me too I couldn’t buy much of anything…lol. People are waking up in this world that has basically lost its mind though and it’s good to see. We all have seen Americans smack the crap out of corporations recently and it’s great. I will say I’m on those bandwagons and will never spend a dime with those few corps I’m referring to ever again. Just haven’t made it there with PayPal.

Sometimes there is a fine line between caution and paranoia. I don't use PayPal or any other payment service, just because I don't want to unnecessarily involve a third party in a simple transaction. But, I don't believe it is a precursor of a financial apocalypse. My greatest comfort level is to gain confidence in the other party, then just write (or accept) a check. It's not perfect, but in over a half century of buying and selling stuff, it hasn't failed me yet.
