Minnesota and it sucks. I found out that I now live in the most diverse city in the state, I guess that explains the latest two shoot outs by teenagers with over 150 rounds fired. I'm taking care of my aged mother so I'm stuck here for now if I don't catch a bullet while driving to the store.

Much of the west is windy, especially in the winter/spring, but there are some sheltered areas here and there. Unfortuatly most of them tend to be well established cities. Phoenix for example is pretty sheltered, but AZ in general can get pretty windy over winter/spring.
This is an awesome tool for keeping track of wind. Just make sure you select WIND GUSTS to really see what's going on wind wise.

I'm in S.W. Missouri. Beautiful part of the country with some sort of hunting season pretty much year round. I'm not real fond of winter, but it's relatively mild compared to a lot of the country. I'm Tennessee born, but have lived in MO since I was 6 years old. I may move when I retire, but I doubt it..

Northern states? Phooey! I was born and raised in New England and after working 40 years there, moved to Central Florida. The weather was beautiful almost every day. There were/are plenty of shooting activities there too. I used to shoot on a local cattle ranch at least three times a week for fun, and FT/BR matches at the DeSoto Airgunners in Arcadia once a month. Now, my age is advancing and my wife convinced me to move to Wisconsin where my daughters and other families are. While I enjoy seeing them often, I hate it here. I drink more and stare out the window at this lousy cold weather, but I have to keep peace in the family. My winter shooting activities is 10M in my basement. Hardly anyone here is interested in airguns with a few exceptions. They are all deer hunters and that's all they care about. There is an FT club (BAGA), but it's on the other side of the state, 260 miles away. Fortunately, I live close to Trenier Airguns and Jeff hosts some 100 yard EBR shooting in the summer months. I can't wait. (BTW, I like Vermont cheese better than Wisconsin) Oh, and in FLorida, your interactions with snakes and gators is next to non-existent unless you go looking for trouble.

I live on the water in Ont. Love fishing, put the Weihrauch’s away and out come the Stella’s. Our winters are nothing like they used to be. Much milder and less snow.
3 years ago we had plans to go to Thailand for the winter but Covid hit. Planned different country every winter till can’t do no more. Thailand and couple came live off $750 a month. Probably end up at the North Pole selling ice cubes.
‘Considering moving to Kingston On. area somewhere on water with big bass. Close to New York for touring.

Born, raised and worked in southern California for over 36 years. I saw the state decline, politically, taxes, anti police, etc. We raised 2 boys and neither wanted to return because of the cost of living. It was a great place to live but changed in the wrong direction. When the wife and I retired we moved to Arizona and love it!!!
I spent many summers here camping, fishing, and hiking with my grand parents. If you love the outdoors it has so much to offer. Plus AOA is 40 minutes away and there are a lot of places to shoot air rifles here And compete here

I'm in Nebraska, there are worse states i guess, corn as far as the eye can see, I like being able to shoot anytime I want as my nearest neighbor is 1/2 a mile away. But it's always windy, taxes are sky high, and the people aren't to bright. Recently we elected a governor because he scored a touchdown in 1978, of course he won in a landslide election.

Alabama does catch my interest. How many days exceeds 100F? If I lived on say 10 acres would it safe for my dogs and I to walk around or are the snakes so bad that its dangerous?

Very rare to go over 100F. Snakes usually hide out when people are around. In the past 10 years I have only seen one venomous snake and that was a Copperhead. I killed him with my .410 Judge revolver that I had on my hip.

Not where I live now, but Eastern Shores, right across Mobile Bay in Alabama is one of the most beautiful places I have lived.

Overall, I like Michigan. I live about 15 miles from Lake Michigan so we get a lot of lake effect snow. If you are not into snow, Michigan has plenty of areas that have very little lake effect snow. Most people love our other three seasons. The picture below is of Lake Michigan.
Aside from online research, I think the best thing to do is travel. I have been to 48 states so far (missing Montana and Alaska) and a dozen countries. No matter where you go, you will find things that are a good fit for you and things that are not a good fit for you. Moving is a big deal so making multiple visits ahead of time would be a good plan.

Terrible awful place to live. Nothing but fishing and hunting year round day after day.
Just purchased another rental property, small fixer upper 1200 sq.foot house on 10 acres just above and next to
the Buffalo National river. 20K. It's at the end of the road, bummer. Small pond with spring. sucks.
No charge for launching your fishing Boat at the lakes, What the heck are they thinking around here anyway?!
3 days of snow a year. Summers stay in the 90's mostly. The occasional 100.
3k square foot home with 60x40 shop on 17 acres and I had to pony up 680.00 for property taxes, again!
Hope you find a better place than this heck hole to live.

This winter in Flagstaff AZ/7000 ft elevation we exceeded our 100 year snow record of 140 inches. We got snowed in a few times because of 3-4 foot drifts. So much so that I had had enough and bought a 4x4 tractor to remove snow! I needed it for other reasons too though....
It's been cold and windy this year, more than normal. Spring has not sprung and it even snowed a tiny bit last night, also was 19 degrees this morning. All this caused me to gain 10 pounds from inactivity since I don't like being outside working in blizzards.
On Monday its supposed to be a 72 degrees high, ha. That's how it is here where I live this time of year.
I like the summers because of the abundance of sunny days, mild temps, and low populations of flying insects and tics. From May to November its a great place to live and isn't humid. The wind dies down around June.
Do I wish there were more lakes and streams, yes.
Property taxes and values might be towards the high side. I've been researching log cabins in Kentucky and Tennessee. I could sell my place here and definitely buy more property and a bigger home there for the same money.
Just venting right now, LOL! Part of me wishes for solitude without a neighbor in sight or ear shot!
I have a weird situation currently! Even though my 4 acre property borders the FS on 3 sides the property next door is a vacation rental, arggg.... who makes all kinds of noises. Then the other two properties are owned by sexual degenerates, and the properties past them are Mexican music central(not prejudice but dislike the tunes) and Rock and Roll biker central, neither of which minds if we DON'T enjoy their loud music.
I'm astounded at the unluck because I moved here for peace and quiet since I'm located in a semi rural atmosphere of 1 to 5 acres!

That would get annoying. I think when I do settle on a place its got to be 10 acres minimum and not opposed to 100. I notice in the midwest and east there isnt poop for public lands like the west. Idaho takes the win for that.
