Keep it discrete guys

No doubt, you can’t just go around shooting peoples cats. It’s hard to know what the deal is here since we don’t know which birds he killed or local regulations.

As airgunners, when we see airguns being used poorly, we can’t look the other way. The issue will only get worse and more visible the longer it goes on.

Something tells me this guy wasn't part of an airgun "community", or showing up at shooting matches demonstrating lack of safety.

There's always going to be mentally ill people with some kind of destructive or violent urges. As you're aware, a pellet gun is far from the only lethal option if you're crazy enough to kill your neighbor's cat. Although the cat was apparently named "Hades", so perhaps he found it fitting.

Frankly linking to this article on this forum saying "keep it discreet guys" is lecturing the completely wrong people, and perhaps another form of "indiscretion".

pends on the situation .. people need to control their pets, if a cat or dog is after my chickens and comes over my fence i'll protect my livestock .. displaying the dead animal by putting it on a pike facing the neighbors yard really goes above and beyond the call of duty and common wisdom though haha ..thats asking for trouble ..

I agree, if someone’s pet tried to attack mine on my property that’s different.

People really need to take care of their pets, period. Get collars and chip them. Spay or nurture them and keep them on their property. I’m so tired of weed whacking my lawn only to hit a pile of cat poop hidden in the grass. Paw prints all over my car, the cat spray on my outside furniture, chicken crap all in my driveway and wall, bald spots on my lawn from them constantly digging. If always funny on how when you throw a rock at them the neighbor complains. Then when you confront them about all the crap and poop in your yard, all of a sudden they claim it’s not their pet.

" Beware of the fools, you never know how far they may go".

Cat was lucky the guy was a bad shot. Have killed many cats in my yard and feel no sympathy for them or their owners. Keep your pets in your own yard, especially after being asked MANY times to control your pets.

This is a really easy case.... just talk to your neighbors and make sure they are ok with you blasting the critters in your neighborhood! You cant just stroll around a part of town blasting things, unless you are doing city work or contracted out. Sorry but I am not buying that the guy drove up to their hose and shot the cat with a pellet gun. Something isn't adding up in "their accounts of the story". There is still some information that isn't in the article so saying anything we are all just keyboard warriors.

I agree with people controlling animals, it's part of having them, most owners here do a good job of poop patrol, leashes, and the like.
However, 10 years ago My dog was killed by a guy that thought he was a wolf. My daughter forgot to latch the back gate and he followed her to school and was waiting for her in the school yard. Fearing that the dog was a wolf on school grounds, the guy decided to shoot it. The bullet (.223) went through the dog and into the classroom, striking an empty desk, and causing a big situation. The guy said that all he thought of was the children and their safety. If you're going to be a "do gooder" make sure you are doing good.

There is enough in that article to know the guy has a problem. Did you read it? Shooting a neighbors cat that was in it's own yard? From your car? I don't shoot cats in my yard just in case they belong to one of my neighbors. I don't even let my dog go after them. Killing pets is the sign of a person with serious mental problems. Hanging up dead animals all over your yard seems troubling too.

I don't see the article as meaning a lot to most airgunners. Hopefully we do not have similar emotional issues. I hope the guy gets some help. I feel sorry for his neighbors. I would have turned him in too.

When my dog got out in 2019 and got hit by a car I could have easily spent over $10,000 on her treatment. I did not but I spent about half that to give her a chance and she is fine. The vet she goes to each year doesn't charge these kind of prices but they do not do the more difficult surgeries either. There are a couple more capable places in town. They do good work but they are sure not cheap. Part of the reason I did not pick the expensive line of treatment for my dog was it involved her living with a broken back leg for something like 7 weeks to heal from back surgery and then and only then getting her leg fixed. That just didn't make sense to me. Seemed like torture. She got a cast that immobilized her back and her leg fixed. But the vet hospital will take about as much money from you as they can justify and some seem happy to spend it.
