Thinking About Springtime

Pretty darn cold around the country and Poxatony Phil saw his shadow so six more weeks of winter. The bastard! I always look forward to mushroom hunting in the springtime. What do you look forward to in the springtime?

Daylight when I get home from work...

Evenings. Sitting on the deck watching the last few rays of sunlight and warmth slip away. The sounds of peepers, cicadas, and the occasional owl putting the turkeys to bed for the night. In the west the last orange bit of light reflects off of Crooked Creek down in the valley below. I swear I can see the last few smallmouths rising to eat a mosquito snack before retiring back to murky depths of home and the spawning beds that hold the promise of next year's keepers. A warm smile from Crystal and an even warmer cup of coffee whose black oily depth I have often contemplated to solve life's little problems and tomorrow's new challenges. Ah yes, Spring.

Hello @Doc Craker

Reading your post I knew you must live close to me, I'm in Deep East Texas, and there are those great evening and night sounds. Barred Owls, Great Horned Owls and those little almost spooky sounding Screech Owls and the wonderful Nightngale sweet sounds. Ahaaaa Spring. Who in the hell invented Winter?????

Punxsutawney Phil got into the liquor cabinet this year and he is seeing double, that’s what’s going on.
I’m looking forward to brook trout fishing this spring, my favorite trout to eat. Here’s last year’s spring catch.
It’s an interesting situation with brook trout here, they are not native fish and the Fish and Wildlife want them out of the native cutthroat trout waters. So the limit is 20!! It’s a gift!!
