First Time PCP Buyer Help // Pesting // Lead Free

I don’t think you can beat a Benjamin marauder. I’ve seen them used on here for well under 500. They are built very well and will likely be something you can pass down to your children.
Marauder is always a good choice, but at 215cc it does take more effort to pump. I would go Gamo Urban as well, it's a rebranded BSA and they're known to be accurate and well built. If you are eyeing the Notos, I'd go with a Marauder Pistol instead. It's better built, has unmatched parts/aftermarket support, and will hand pump super quick.

The marauder pistols look great. The main reason I've been debating the Notos is it is close to half the price, regulated, side lever, and has glowing reviews so far. I do like the long standing legacy of the Marauder, though. (I know I can upgrade the Marauder to regulated, down the road). I may wait and see if a deal on a PRod pops up.

If you are looking for a rifle I just checked Airguns of Arizona where I bought my Benjamin Akela in .177 for $429.99
I haven't even looked at those yet. Good looking rifle! Thanks for adding to the list!

Hatsan Jet. I have one in 25 Cal, plenty of power to take out rats and squirrels and pigeons, whether you go with the jet one or the jet two, both can be filled with a hand pump. What I like personally about mine is it can be both a pistol and a carbine rifle with the included stock it comes with. The 25 Cal only comes with a six shot magazine but it accepts hatsan sortie mags so you can get more shots. My jet one with just the one tank it comes with is able to get 20 to 30 shots easy before refilling the tank. And this is just my personal opinion but I think it looks cool as hell.
The jets definitely look cool.

Are you wanting a Traditional "Long gun" or "Bullpup"?

The Avenger is a Great starter PCP.
You have the ability to Easily tune the gun since it's regulated
They are very accurate guns.
I consider them backyard friendly out of the box, but you can always add a moderator with an adapter if needed.
Side lever cocking
Good shot count
Cheap mags if you want to add more to the pile, and you will.. Lol

You want a 22, and you need to budget about $300 for the cheapest compressor on Amazon. Hand pump is not fun and will turn you off completely. Also you want a repeater and not a single shot.

The classic is Benjamin maurader pistol. Also there’s two new affordable release recently the Hatsan jet and umarex notos
Disagree. I shot my first PCP for a year with nothing but a hand pump. It did nothing to subdue the fun of that gun.
I didn't get a compressor until I got a PCP with a 500cc 4500psi bottle. That would be no fun to hand pump at all!

I also have no problem with single shot. In fact, the first thing I buy for all of my guns is a single shot loader. Well, all but my TalonP since it is single shot only.
BTW, my favorite powder burners are single shot too. I am just not in that big of a hurry I guess.

I'm leaning towards the bullpup or carbine design for the shorter overall length.

I've been reading a lot of threads about the Avenger. Thanks!

The Avenger is a nice rifle but uses a higher fill pressures to get a better shot count. I have the Origin in .25 and it's been a good pcp. But when compared to the Urban it seems like it's plastic on plastic. Reciever , charging handle , rail, it works but I would have more pride in ownership in a all metal, made in the UK airgun vs one made in China . And you can pick one up for around $270 new.

Ok in a bullpup i would seriously consider saving up just a little more money to up your budget.
Look for Used earlier model FX Wildcat, Dream-tac or a Brocock
If you are patient, you Can find a great deal on any of these guns and you will have a helluva a lot better gun that you won't lose your a$$ if you ever try to sell it.

A 200 bar fill is easy with a hand pump. A 250 bar fill is harder. 300 bar takes for ever. I suggest which ever model you choose, consider how you are going to fill the rifle first.
Awesome to have some numbers to look at. I would really love to get away with a hand pump for a bit, if possible... then, if the bug bites hard, keep it as a backup when I upgrade.

That is definitely an option, and one I have been thinking about a lot as I have fallen into this research rabbit hole. At one point yesterday I had convinced myself I was buying a cheaper PCP ($200ish), and a $500ish PCP, and a springer for good measure to play with... which led me to think "Why not just buy a higher end gun? A FX Dreamline Lite could get me far in the hobby!" Then I pumped the brakes on that and told myself there is no rush!

The recommendation to wait and search for deals is a wise choice.

The more I learn about all of this, the more I'm learning I have no clue about anything. I think getting a rifle to use and poke at, to form opinions on the things I like and the things I hate is going to really enlighten me moving forward.

I have a bad habit of falling hard into hobbies. Tinkering is fun. Research is fun.

That's where I'm at! I'm not in a rush. I'll keep reading and researching (especially as new recommendations come in).

Quoting myself to highlight this... but this forum definitely makes me feel enabled to make some bad decisions... haha

The Hatsan Jet will require a moderator to meet the OP's requirements, it's ear ringing loud. I get 14 consistant shots out of my 22 cal Jet 1. Hand pumping the Jet to 3600 psi is not pleasant for those who do not have sufficient body mass. At 150 lbs, anything over 3700 psi (tested on a Leshiy 2) is not possible in my book without a weight vest. After a couple of weeks of pumping I caved and bought a bottle just for the Jet as it's not worth firing up the Yong Heng contraption to fill a 40cc reservoir.

Caveats mentioned above aside, the Jet's surperb little package and dirt cheap. I think every serious airgun enthusiast should own one. It's perfect for starlings, rats, pigeons & squirrels at backyard ranges. There's a thread on it here and also one on GTA for further reading.

Last thought, beware of scopecreep. The perfect number of airguns is n+1....

Lol, missed the second page before the last post. Prods are very hand pump friendly, 33 fairly easy strokes for 21 shots. Perfect for slighter builds. I think the Jet's the next evolution of the Prod concept provided you have the umph for the air.

Apparently AGN no longer allows embeding links to outside image hosting. :-( I pay for storage so the photos I have posted online to help others won't disappear. Here's a link to a photo of my Prod and one of my Jet. Both have slings to be used Rhodesian style when pesting.

another not too expensive one i use for similar uses is my stoeger xm1 in .177 combined with the bigger transferport i get around 26 joules with h&n barracuda greens, and up to almost 100 yards great accuracy. small tank so easy to pump etc only downside id say is the no half unf threads, but any decent gunsmith should be able to do that for you for less than 50 bucks, you just lose the "useless" shroud and open sights. ive had this done and its a tack driver, also with the nsa 12.5 grains slugs

@whatsapcp One of the cool things about the Prod illustrated here is that it has awesome aftermarket support. You can modify the Prod over time to become what you want it to be, or leave it stock. @scopecreep... has gone with making the Prod a super short, lightweight gun. Here are my two Prods and I went a different direction.

Edit: The option for embedding a picture is greyed out at the moment, so here's a link to where I posted it elsewhere.

Just pick up a NOTOS and you will be ready to go, right out of the box. Buy a PROD and spend another $200 turning it into a carbine or pay $265 and it is a done deal. IMHO the NOTOS is a much better pistol/carbine than the PROD. It obsoletes the PROD.
