SHIPPING COST OUT OF CONTROL

I was just on AoA website to order a Labradar airgun microphone. $44.95 on sale. Add $3.85 for tax AND ADD $25.86 UPS SHIPPING.
NO F’ing WAY. The entire package would not hit one pound and would fit in 4”x4”x4” box.
This is completely stupid. Ordered it from Midway, $8.50 shipping.

Edit: Shipping on a rifle would be several hundred dollars.

AOA also has flat rate shipping available. But yes, I find their checkout techniques a bit weak.

There shipping is fairly normal on a gun, not several hundred dollars. The shipping on ammo and small parts is high, so I choose to buy from someone else. It's been years since I have bought pellets from them because of the high shipping rates on small items. They seem to be doing really well without me, so I guess it doesn't matter to most.

Pirate Ship is awesome. Just used it this morning to ship a gun to a fellow AGN'er, and for him shipping was free! ;)

I don't know what is going on with AoA's commercial UPS rate (likely already better than some average Joe like me using Pirate Ship). But whenever I buy a gun from them, USPS Priority is like half the cost of UPS, so that is what I choose. And it is generally very reasonable.

Shipping companies are charging customers more, Not so much more that a little LabRadar microphone would cost 26 bucks (and by your profile rcs9250 I see that you don't live in BFE.) So I'm really thinking that this was some kind of shipping SNAFU/Twilight Zone kind of thing. Maybe they had a non-ups rate available which was better? Or maybe an error in their system where this mic was entered at 18# in weight instead of 18 oz.

Nope, I emailed them. They said one option was USPS Flat Rate at $13.50, which I saw when I almost ordered. I asked if they inadvertently added a piece of depleted uranium in the box. I advised them that Midway was $5 cheaper than USPS flat rate.

I think that many companies are just looking for every opportunity to tack on some profit, trying to offset rising inventory cost. I'm sure that AOA has attractive shipping rates with UPS, and they don't have to pass that on to us. I have a lot of respect for AOA ownership and management, but I believe they are a little excessive in their shipping markups. As with many companies, shipping has become a profit center.

For me, USPS flat rate from Arizona is actually faster than UPS ground because priority mail is air.

I’d agree that $28 seems high for small parts but the USPS option is reasonable. The USPS small flat rate box is $10.40 and the medium is $17.05 so at best AoA was giving you a small discount off the medium or a small up charge on the small.

So really this post boils down to you saved $5 by going to Midway and AoA should fix their website to default to the cheapest shipping option so it’s a better comparison.

AoA charges $13.50 for small flat rate.
