Pellet cost

As retail inventories replenish, which they seem to be doing all around the shooting industries now, we need to reward the vendors who sell for competitive prices.

If we don’t, the big vendors who have been selling with fat margins will keep prices where they are and before long the manufacturers will take a permanent cut for themselves. Shop smart, be flexible, and restore the economic force that promotes competition. The time for panic buying is hopefully past.

I almost threw up in my mouth the other day when checking on pellet prices from large retailers.

I’m going to resist buying till prices get back to more normal ranges, but who knows if or when that might be.

But once these retailers have more surplus than demand, they’ll have to lower the prices to be competitive. Not going to hold my breathe, but that’s what I am hoping for.

We should all stop shooting, at least for a while, to ameliorate costs and the need to immediately buy pellets, which will cause retailers, and in turn the suppliers, to panic because they need to pay their overhead costs and staff and force them to drop prices. Of course, this is just hypothetical, but seems to be effective for many capitalists.

Yeah...you seem to be missing something, asleep at the wheel ?
EVERYTHING is way up ! What cost me $125 or so a year ago, at the grocery store, now cost over $220 !

When was the last time you paid ANY attention to the gas prices ?
WHY...wouldn't pellet costs go up ? In the least, diesel fuel costs, so just delivering it from the ships to the warehouses, then to the dealers...cost more. Not counting manufacturing the pallets/slugs in the first place.

everythings double or higher and i doubt its coming back down, just up ... word in the grapevine is the strategy almost all retailers across the board adopted is they hoarded stock on everything and loaded up because they expect more huge price increases moving forward into this year, therefore they bought 'low' more or less while the buyin was good .. maybe something to think about. im venturing a guess that by this time next year those pellets will be 'more' than double what they are now .. just sayin ...

Minimum wage? Most pellets are manufactured in foreign countries.
Yes, cost too much to be produced here. Now must be produced somewhere else. Those people have to make money. So do all the people in between. The shippers, the wholesalers, the store employees. Then shiped again to you. Because none of those people want to be paid the wage they get paid, they want more but dont want a better job. So who is going to pay for it? I do what I can to cut the middle man out and buy in bulk, but that also prevents certain people a affordable living. Vicious circle.

Political discussion is frowned upon by management, thus it's best that I do not respond.

Aside from inflation in general, another factor is the increase in interest in airgunning. During the pandemic folks were taking up all sorts of hobbies just to kill time. In addition, there were many that crossed over from the PB world to airguns because the price of components for reloading became excessive. I made the move from PB about 4 years ago because I saw what was coming with respect to component supplies and prices and honestly lost any desire of going back except for 22LR and mouse fart loads.

The issue I have with pellet prices being so high yet most everything else also being inflated too, is that the cost of real ammunition have gone down since Covid.

I know bullets and pellets are not apples to apples, but I’m not going to be buying pellets when I can buy .22lr at the same cost per round as a .22 jsb pellet.

And looking at .177, the options are not much cheaper than .22. These both were supposed to be for cheap plinking!
