The new HW35 Standard

Well found this picture at hard air of the bottom side..

I got to say that does look kinda cheap unrefined somehow.. (??).

Just choped squared off sharp edges??

Thats not too appealing appearance wise.. or is it just me?

Strewth….having seen it from that angle, I cannot believe anyone would do that to a stock, let alone a top class gunmaker.
It almost brings tears to my eyes. Maybe they had set a challenge to make the worlds ugliest stock after a few too many beers the night before ...and by the looks of it, followed through and went ahead.
However, there is always a positive and would suggest a great example of what not to do…

I still don't like it, but can see where the " inverted swayback" forearm would sit well on a front bag, and that flat cutout on the buttstock would ride a rear bag nicely. I have gotten to the point where I am shooting my guns offhand more, and with diopter sights vs scopes, just more fun than sitting at a bench in search of the tiniest groups possible. I am liking my hanging soda cans or other reactive targets.

That interim model HW35E above was not that bad. Decent grain. Ok not traditional chequering (why change something accepted as great for eons) but still pretty decent. …right up until they took scollops out of the stock.
Dishing the base of the forend, leads to a weak line..bad aesthetic design.
The cut out at the base of the butt …im lost for words so ill leave it there….with my pic

Where's the stock?

No left hand option offered by Weihrauch for the HW35. There is no HW35 stock option at Custom Stock UK. No left hand option is a deal breaker for me. If this model is on the market, I applaud Weihrauch's decision to make it more accessible. Might have to purchase one now.
I could not get a concrete answer from Krale as to whether they are shipping this new version HW35 Standard or the previous model.

If it had a thumb hook on the bottom it would be a good benchrest stock for a powder burner. I think it looks ok other than the flat on the bottom. I’m not a stock snob so I would give it a try. I think the walnut 35e looks better. The 35 standard has never done it for me.
very easy to put thumb hook on that , almost one there now .

What they really need to do is get rid of the wood for plastic stocks then replace the globe insert sight with a big plastic muzzle end with a big filament truglo sight that more fitting for a shotgun..

No, no.. better yet. Ditch the steel barrel for a plastic shrouded soda straw barrel with the bulky non removable baffle thing ..

Thats the popular thing going now today it seems..

If it wasn't for an ARH walnut stock I don't think I would have bought my HW50. The grain and color are pretty nice beech but that billboard! Why didn't they just checker it?

Hard to say when a company makes a change on why. So many got good things going and out of the blue change it and most times not seeming for the better or somthing that alienate customer base due to appearance , function or durability.. or you know that cheaper better product..lol. ( Cheaper for them to make and better profits for there shareholders)

Its beyond words that they would move from that traditional HW50 stock to the wretched hack up below it…
What on earth were they thinking of…
I don't think the new HW50S stock is wretched, but the previous design was definitely better.
However, the newer HW30S stock is an improvement over it's plain, blah predecessor .......

I have a new HW30S cutaway stock. For what it's worth, it handles nice and rests well. That said, I do have a custom walnut stock stock being crafted right now. The factory wood is completely functional, obviously diverging from the classic shape and lines most are accustomed to. I do wonder if Weihrauch reads the various feedback?

The "standard" stock has been a plain "rounded" sort of shape for many years. I love the nice proportions and clean look of that, but no doubt adding a cheekpiece and checkering to the lowest-priced option are upgrades in the eyes of many these days.

To my eye the blobby banana-shaped fore end is atrocious - what the precedent is there for such a thing? Not nuts about the flat under the butt either, but can at least see where it might be useful for bench rest, etc.

I may be the only one who thinks about this....cheekpieces and such are great for target use, but I prefer a smoother, more rounded overall stock shape for hunting and other rugged outdoor activities. Those sharp edges and corners on the cheekpiece, lower edge of the butt, etc. are magnets for dings and dents. And the big forward flare on the bottom of the grip is a detail you often seen on "custom" stocks, which I've never liked...functionless flash begging for damage.

Several times i look at this lexus stock and kinda would of liked the standard rounded cheek rest then the square sharp looking that it has.. i think the rounded or more teardrop shape gives a more class look.

I guess you n the end no matter what the stock or anything is or looks if the gun in whole aint accurate it dont matter anyway. I dont buy then to admire on a wall..
