Interesting!!! I have never seen a barrel THAT bad with lead fouling, not saying it’s impossible. Even when dirty and not shooting well my poly barrel still looked mirror smooth minus tiny imperfections/lead specs. Certainly would be very interesting to see if a good cleaning would restore it to a mirror finish, certainly won’t cost much to try.

I was being completely factious. I just see so many posts with “all the daystate “ problems or “all the fx” problems. Like they are failing regularly. It’s just ridiculous. Wasn’t pointing directly to the OPS issue. He obviously got a bad barrel.

With a cheap borescope the thin streaks of lead look will like fissures or discoloration in the barrel. your patches will also have shiny streaks of pure lead on them not the black mold release that many mistake for lead.
I’ve owned three REDWOLF’s all have been dependable ( first gen had a mag pin issue but was fixed by AoA and Daystate) the big issue with accuracy is how quickly the barrels lead up because of the extreme velocity obtained by these guns.

And before anyone comment’s I’ve owned 4 FX’s! you can get good and bad from each manufacturers

And I to have used a bronze brush with no issues and even wrapped them with 0000 stainless steel wool!

I've had a mixed bag with Daystate. They remind me of Jaguar automobiles. Both are great looking but have quality control problems. I previously owned an unregulated Huntsman .22 that had below average accuracy. I presently own a regulated Huntsman Revere that is a laser out to 50 yards. I sold an unregulated Wolverine SE bolt action to buy a 6 year newer regulated Wolverine side lever high power. I assumed it would be a free upgrade because my older Wolverine sold for the same price as I paid for the new model. I bought both of them from classifieds in near new condition. The older unregulated Wolverine had excellent accuracy with most pellets. The newer one only shot monster redesigns and even they were disappointing accuracy-wise. I'm not a brand specific buyer but my experience is Daystate barrels seem to be hit or miss in the quality control department. I've had no similar disappointments with several Air Arms, Weihrauch HW100's, or FX's.

Following Motorheads suggestion that it may be extreme lead fouling, I got a bronze brush in it and complete clean after. See pic after cleaning. Still looks quite scratchy but perhaps not quite so bad. Sorry its best pic I could get.

Following a very thorough de-leading and clean. The first 5 shot group, quite acceptable for 30 yds, then 2nd then 3rd..........
O dear.
Leading up again after 30 shots. Exactly the way it behaved straight out the box. So not to be accused of shooting them too fast, they are all about 760 but speed creeping down, also indicating fouling.
Ive given it every chance as I really wanted to keep it. Perhaps new barrel would fix it but that ship has sailed.

I ordered a 'dongle' directly from DS so I could advanced tune this thing. Now I dont need it (gun going back) im trying to cancel. Recorded message saying they dont sell to the public, contact you supplier. Very fecking helpful.

Tony Belas told me that barrel twist rate is a non factor in airgunning when I asked for barrel specs on my new Alpha Wolf .22, sent that thing packing! ... lol

If it was a used gun I would certainly polish it, as I have many others. I dont think I should need to do that on a new one in order to get acceptable groups.

If that is after a through BRUSHING ... Yikes !!! I can see why it lead fouled so quickly & badly.
If that is the actual bare metal surface of barrel ? yea its a Bad one for sure !!


Tho I thought I had READ you already got a refund after returning it, So how were you able to clean barrel & provide a picture ?
If I'm mistaken .. i'm sorry and digress to the conversation as we were.

The shop have agreed to accept it back but are shut until tomorrow. In the mean time I thought it worth giving it a brush as you suggested. Im also wondering if that is bare metal.

You nailed it with the Jaguar comparison.
I now suspect that the Daystate electronics are manufactured by Lucas !!

Lucas Electric, keeping the world in the dark since 1902.

You know what, thats also possible, but how far do I go trying to fix this? It was not bad first 20 shots from new but then started spreading. I have no experience of a gun fouling up so quickly so didn't suspect this problem. If its new (and not almost new, and shop returned) then anyway it should not be doing it. Ive spent enough precious hours trying to fix this new gun when i should be out on the bunnies.
Have been contacting UK RTI retailers about replacement.

What did you use on the brush to clean the bore?
