Don't feel left out!

For those of us not shooting 80 to 100 ft lb in 22 caliber hopefully this will be a new option for still shooting slugs accurately. I have been watching the slug Market growing and I had an idea that it would become the new normal. A lot of us are shooting 22 caliber at under 50 ft lb so I designed a new slug barrel a few months ago and just got my mandrel delivered to TJ. These barrels are a 3 groove to help lower friction and slug distortion. They have a 212 bore with 217 groove diameter. It is a 1-18 twist designed for 18-26gr slugs and calculates out to about a 1.5 gyroscopic stability factor for optimal flight. I designed and own the mandrel so it won't be listed on any of TJs barrel sheets but I plan to carry both blanks and finished drop in barrels in my store for multiple different brands of guns. I'll update everyone on testing results and you'll see a few results from a couple of trusted members here on the forum too so that the results are verified not just by me. In a nut shell these will be hammerforged chrome moly barrels with no choke and can be purchased at any desired length. Stay tuned!

@thammer

Think youll have one for the Delta/Alpha wolf? if so count me in...

Mr Hammer probably doesn't have all these different guns to pattern the new barrel from so it would probably be best to send him your existing barrel after you contact him and get his approval. I think he's still waiting on blanks from his supplier.
I don't speak for Troy Hammer I'm just thinking out loud.
You can buy shipping at a discount through paypal. https://paypal.shipstation.com/
I shipped an Avenger barrel in a 1 3/4" tube, paypal/UPS and the price was $8 ground or $10 and change 2nd day air.

I figure us guys shooting 40-50FPE non-FX need a little love too.

Troy,

thanks, that's really nice of you. 😊 Because I feel like unless I follow the masses down the FX highway, slug precision is not accessible to me.

So, thank you for leading the way, an alternative way, a way the barrel makers should have been on since a couple of years ago....

🔆 But you are just blazing the trail like Nick at NielsenSpecialtyAmmo.com —
Nick finally brought down slug prices and made them accessible to every shooter —
now you are providing slug barrels for our non-slug guns —
so slug shooting becomes accessible to all, not just those on a particular brand band wagon. 😉
Instead of the Big Businesses — it's the airgun enthusiasts like Nick and Troy and others who move us forward. (Bad rep for the BB's.)

🔆 Blazing the trail, Troy. Eventually, LW, CZ, and the others will see the light and get on it! 👍🏼
Thanks again.

Matthias

Do you have any more results for us?
I'm using mine at RMAC as we speak. It's shooting the 24.8 NSA great @ 960fps it's also shooting 33.95 Jumbo monster pellets great. I picked up Javelin and JSB MII knockouts while here for more testing and getting H&N as well. Spent a while talking with Matt at Javelin discussing the barrel and he feels it can handle even up to 30gr no problem so they'll be lots of testing coming up. The AVS slugs also shot well in testing so it's very promising that you'll have many choices based on the guns power.

Finally getting some raw materials in. Looks like 15mm will be a go. Wanting to gauge the interest in a 15mm. @Dairyboy you had mentioned you were interested what other guns use 15mm? I think RAW is 15mm as well. I do currently have an 18" and 24" blank available in 1/2" OD if anyone is interested. 14mm is in the works getting raw material has been a pain. FYI when hammerforging the raw material needs to be a specific ratio of OD and ID of the raw material to get a specific final OD. If it's not within that ratio the OD is off and requires the blanks to need ground between centers to reach the desired OD which adds significant cost. I'm trying to avoid that so the barrel cost can stay reasonable but the down side is the wait for matching ratio material means the no barrels during that wait so it's a tough decision.

Are there any other cuts or grooves or screw divots needed
Here’s my 250mm barrel:

Nothing needed for the O.D.

Real nice crown on the muzzle end

And the breech end has a nice bevel for the pellet entrance

So yeah, I’d like to try slugs with an unchoked 350. What say ye?
