Am I being a little whiny . . . ? ( New scope didn't come with any caps )

Is that typical? I've got "lots" of scopes - a couple of Blackhounds, an Aztec, an Athlon (Argos), A Vector Optics, and a Hawke.

*ALL* of them came with caps - front and rear. The hawke actually has the coolest one of the lot in that it's "metal" and threaded into the front element and is stiff enough so that it can double as a sunshade in low light situations. ( it doesn't spring up back to 110-120* like most do )

Regardless -- I just bought a new scope - the most expensive one I've ever purchased and, I'm hoping is indeed a nice one - an Athlon Helos BTR Gen2. I plan on mounting it to a new gun that I'm waiting on.

It ain't got no damned caps though. At all. Nadda. Nothing. Zilch, Zero, Zip. Not even one of those "bikini things" where the front and rear are "connected" together.

Nufin'. The glass is just . . . . exposed.

I'm - actually - kinda bent about it. ( lol )

Is this typical???

It just showed up yesterday - I just unboxed it an hour or so ago. I've looked, and looked again . . . .through the box for the caps.

There ain't no caps. :( :(

I have no idea.

I can say some of my scopes have come without caps, and some with.

March Optics gives you both "travel caps" suitable for packing the scope, and flip-up caps that are easy to open. And the flip-up caps lock open, so they don't get blown-about by the wind.

I imagine there's little to no standards out there.

Most of the caps that come with scopes I did not really like them all that much. The March caps are wonderful. The Sightmark caps are a little annoying. Too loosey-goosey. I think my Dedal scope came without caps. Or if it had caps, they were crap.

lol - yeah I got it from Cameraland! ( after seeing many, many of you guys in here purchase from them ) I figure if you guys are buying from them then they must be good / reputable. ;-) (( I'm not saying they're not - this could just be an "Athlon" thing ) I'm on Athlon's site in another tab on my web browser and have just located the "contact us" link. I'm sending them an e-mail . . . lol!! :) :)

bummer, but maybe there is some logic to it. like others are saying, sometimes the caps are no good, so you paid extra for trash.

cheaper scopes are probably bought more by people that aren't as fussy as people that spend bucks up, so why add caps to an already expensive scope if the buyer might toss them anyway, or bash the ones you give them online, lol. adding bc caps or ones that are universally liked is a decent option.

When I received my March-FX Highmaster 4.5-28×52, I have to admit that I was surprised at all the accessories that came with it. Flip up caps, travel caps, throw lever, 2" side parallax wheel, larger elevation turret cap with bigger numbers, and a sun shade. All the accessories it came with are made in Japan too. I'm pretty happy with them.

Yup. I Bought 2 Athlon Eres and one Athlon Midas Tac and none of them came with covers. But their cheaper Athlon Argos does. Go figure.

Most of the time I don't need caps. But sometimes I store my rifles straight-up in the closet, and dust settles on the lens. I'd rather avoid cleaning the lens... so I get caps.

Maybe in the not-too-distant-future I'll have a closet big-enough so that I can store the rifles horizontally.

That said, it's a little more tricky to get caps for red dot sights. For storing in the closet, I 3d print little boxes that press-fit the red dot.

I have a couple of the Argos BTR Gen 2 scopes and they come with caps. The factory included caps are very cheaply made and I have already had one break a couple weeks after getting the scope. I will be replacing both sets with something better. Maybe Athlons thinking is to not include caps in the upper end models. I would be more aggravated about the cheap caps if I had paid over 1k on an Ares ETR. I do understand the convenience of getting a set of caps with the scope so you do have some protection, but a lot of the included caps on many brands are a temporary solution. I do want to mention that I REALLY like my Argos Gen 2 scopes, so the cheap included caps aren’t that big of an issue to me.

🤣 🤣 🤣 So I just got a short, like one single line, reply from Daniel the customer service person @Athlon. I even included the serial number, along with the specific make / model scope and my home address - you know - so they'd know where to send me my caps. 🤣 🤣 🤣

It was worth a shot. lol!! I guess I'm going to measure it and order up a set of those Butler Creeks.

I guess I'll stop being whiny now . . . ;-)

Yes, whiny..!

MANY new scopes and dot sights are "designed" without caps these days. Unless there are threads on the outside of the turret bodies, and the caps have been lost..!?

Unless you are rutting around on your stomach in the sand at the beach, or a mountain lake or river bead, there's nothing to worry about. They are still water and dirt sealed.

Have you...say...gone to the manufacturers web site to verify that no caps were designed for your scope ?
