Umarex  Zelos Hammer Spring Adjustment

IMO, bone stock, default factory setting, gun is over sprung. Mine is the same. 2100, all the way backed out was peak velocity. With CW 1/8th turn lost 3-5 fps. Went up to 2350, 22gr slugs were at 857 at 2100, at 2350 with no spring adjustment 896. With adjustment peaked at 913. ⅛turn past this, down to 904, another down to 887. Found 21gr HN shoot best anyway. 927 is plenty.

Bottle and adapter en route. Have new valve and housing on way. Going to add side mounted plenum... I'm not looking for much more power, would like to have the 21grs in 940-950 neighborhood.

Shot cycle was nicer at higher pressure with very little spring added.

RAW Rapid  SUBMOA barrel on RAW HM1000x

@thammer , this is a hypothetical question ... so why would your barrel shoot any more accurately than any OEM barrel? I am not trying to be a wise guy but merely asking you to educate me from your point of view. Thanks.

Daystate  Blackwolf information

@Franklink I do the cleaning with a rod, brushes, and patches on occasion, more so with my slug guns. The pertinent bit of information that stood out to me was POI shifting slightly after removing and replacing the barrel. All things considered, it seems that a pull-through system is advantageous in this regard, especially for a pellet gun.

Thinking in terms of a platform capable of swapping caliber (like the Black Wolf or Ghost barrels and probes), is POI shift a serious concern each time a different caliber barrel is affixed? I’m asking assuming that the scope will be mounted in the same position and turrets set according to DOPE.
Even if there is shift you’d probably be able to head shoot a squirrel @50. Its usually not much. I pull my 28” 👻 barrel every time i case it and seldom adjust the scope.

With three grooves you are not compressing the lead at opposing sides deforming it as much. With opposing compression it is actually elongating the slug. I also use slightly more shallow lands so It also has less friction. That means less air is needed to achieve the same speed and that reduces the turbulence behind the projectile after it leaves the muzzle. It's one of the reasons many high-end PB rifles use similar barrels. The hammerforging process also produces a stiffer barrel that is typically more concentric to the bore and reduces the time needed to lap and polish since it's formed smooth around a mandrel.

Other  Raptor Air Leak FOUND and Solved

As someone who has resorted to submerge an air tube on occasion to find a slow leak, I just wanted to say I respect your tenacity and resolve.

The best example I can think of was a super slow leak that persisted after a complete reseal job. Only when I dunked it did I discover the pressure gauge had a slow internal leak, presumably from its Bourdon tube. Probably never would have found it otherwise.
Just reread this, I need to check them, no leaks that I know of but.....I'll see if they glow...more. the plastic cover glows a bit..

What did you order / receive airgun related today? Thread

I purchased this Taipan Veteran 2 Tactical 550mm .22 from Dairyboy, Dillon. It arrived today in IMMACULATE condition. I have known Dillon ever since I started my airgun hobby and it was a pleasure purchasing from him, he has always been a stand up person. He has it tuned to shoot 18gr pellets @ 975fps, exactly where I wanted it. I have always wanted a Taipan and especially the Gen2 bottle versions and when I saw Dillon selling his, it was a no brainer for me. Cocking is buttery smooth, shot cycle is nice and snappy and did I mention how accurate it is....hole in hole @ my meager 20yd range. It is very compact @ just under 32" and built solid like my RAW. It is also very efficient with air much more so than my RAW also with a fantastic trigger. Dillon, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Why some prefer high power .22 over .30 vice versa

It is correct to say the bc controls wind drift but saying that without also saying that the bcs of larger calibers tend to be higher is misleading in my opinion. There is overlap but a casual examination of pellet or slug data will show clearly that 22s do not have as high a bc as the best 30 caliber projectiles. The best 22s may have a bc as high as the lowest bc 30s but the trend is clearly that larger calibers have higher bcs.

The Hard Air data shows a 50 grain JSB 30 caliber has a bc over .05 and the highest 22 caliber JSB at .039. There are, of course many fewer 30 caliber projectiles but still I think the trend is clear. A better comparison might be to compare at equivalent sectional density.
Jim,
You are right that BC varies greatly from pellet to pellet, but that comes down to individual pellet design.
Given the same weight, a short fat (larger Dia.) pellet will have a lower BC than a smaller dia, longer pellet. A tight waisted pellet = lower BC than a broad waisted pellet. You can see this within a given calibers pellets; as weight increases and length increases, so does the BC (generally). Also seen with slugs in any caliber, heavier = longer = higher BC.

With the popularity growth of 100yd Benchrest, I think pellet design is following the 30 cal trend of BR usage; as evidenced by the superior Zan .30 100BR design over older designs from other brands. Previously, the big calibers were all about hunting and retained energy and killing quickly. Now there has developed a market for high BC, very consistent pellets, and designs are filling that need. - Higher BC = less wind deflection = easier to hit the 10 ring = more pellet sales. Zan is now coming out with a .25 cal BR100 pellet with a high BC for benchrest.

.22 cal Benchrest guns were largely abandoned because the existing high BC pellet - JSB Monster redesign 25.4gn, were inconsistent and threw fliers fairly regularly. In stepped the .25 and .30 cal guns and the instinctive but wrong belief that heavier = less wind deflection.

I won't be surprised to see more .22s shooting JTS and AEA pills on the benchrest line in the future where consistency is king and high BC is queen. I'll be one them. Wish me luck (and copious practice time)!

Hogkiller. I think I have the same issue with my Raptor. Can yousuggest the size needed. Also it’s not clear to me where this o ring is located. Thanks for sharing
Easy, take out the valve, i.e. unscrew it from the block, take something and push out the stem from the inlet side, i.e. the side without threads. it'll pop right out, the o-ring is the same as the .25 probe 0-ring. When you get it out, inspect VERY carefully, you may find some damage. Reassemble with a little oil, do not over tighten on the 0-ring it seats on, bad things will happen. As you refill, fire the gun a few time to get the valve to seat. If you need a picture I can do one.

Will the 7mm That’s Being Introduced by the Wolfiek Group Prove to be Better for Competitive Shooters?

Assuming there are some ballistic advantages to be had with a 7mm versus a .25 or .30....hope he has better luck with the endeavor than I have had promoting the .20. 🙄

Ive gone blue in the face spreading the word about how, fpe for fpe, the orphan/bastard .20 caliber beats the tar out of the .177 and .22 that it sits between. And nobody seems to care. They just want 35 different projectile options, even if 32 of them are not accurate and have piss poor BCs.
Our advocacy for 20 is for the exact reasons 7mm is being explored I think. Makes me wonder why long slippery 25 cal slugs aren't in vogue when 6.5mememore took hold of centerfire.

I'm willing to bet it's got more to do with pneumatics than projectile design. Unless they found a power level limit for their platform and are trying to exploit that number while writing it off as caliber hype... Just guesses.

Powder burner guys are probably having dejavu.

How to cool a cs4 or cs4-i, even better than just bleeding the air pocket.

nice work , was it hard or complicated to rotate the radiator ?
It's easy
Drain water
Unhook the two water lines
Unplug the fan
4 screws in front hold the fan radiator assembly...remove them
Remove the drain line
Slide radiator fan assembly out
Reinstall as in the photo
Replace screws and wire for the fan
Cut water lines to fit
Reinstall drain line
And that's it.

Start to finish should take no more than 20 minutes.

N/A  Trick shot with the Diana 54

It's a beast in .22 but I love it. Had not shot it in a couple months do yesterday I took to the range with a new Sightron I had just mounted . Zero took 4 shots then I shot 3 five shoot groups at 23yds. All groups well under a dime. There was an empty 9mm case on one of the benches. I said I am going to shoot a pellet in it. My wife laughed....doubting Thomas. I put it on top of my target with the mouth facing the bench. I shot and saw it go straight back against the backstop then fall. We walked down. No lead on the edge of the neck. Pellet inside nice and shiney totally flattened out. The primer was pushed most of the way out of the case. I looked at my wife and said one word.....SEE! Silly but fun. Sorry I could not get a photo inside the case to come out. But I saved it....my lucky case.
while nicking the edge i have recently shot a .177 slug thru a .22 hole at 100 yards,,,,,, that felt really good, even if it did take about 10 - 20 or so tries on
One huge thing that's is over looked is this. It's one thing to shoot a tiny group. It's a whole nother thing to place a shot exactly where you need to. I always thought in the group shooting game there should either a penalty for every shot out of the 10 ring, or a bonus for everyone with touching or inside the 10 ring. Or perhaps base it on if the total group is inside the 10 ring and if it is give the shooter .025 off his group size. You know, what good is a shot if you don't hit what your aiming at ?

Will the 7mm That’s Being Introduced by the Wolfiek Group Prove to be Better for Competitive Shooters?

I read this article in Hard Air Mag. Looks interesting, but I don’t know enough about ballistics to understand the significance of a new caliber that will sit between .25 and .30 caliber pellets and slugs.

Which 7mm? Real 7mm, 277 or 284? 😁

The $2000 dollar gun.

The vulcan is great, it's an amazing powerhouse, it's an amazing shooter, but unless you have the land or the space to shoot in an area where you're not gonna bother your neighbors. The gun is simply too loud, and i'm mostly referring to the 700mm versions because everybody chooses them for the amount of power they can make. They are also top heavy tall guns, with the compact weighing in at eight pounds and the long wayne, about 9lbs. With a scope, these guns are easily eleven pounds, not adding a bipod, mod, etc.

The compacts are amazing, how to compact .30 and .177 both very accurate. The 177 does between 330 and 350 shots per fill at 19ish fpe or whatever 10.3 at 905 is.
Interesting, you're the only person that's commented on the loudness. Every video I've seen people say it's quite that's including people with a decibel reader.

HW/Weihrauch  New Weihrauch day, finally.

It is, and I adjusted it slightly down and tilted. The plate that's screwed to the butt stock was not aligned with edge of the wood when I got. It was off 1/8" to one side.
That is a position offered by that adjustment. My Avanti came set like that.

I don't see 7mm in airguns as being used for anything other than "gonzo long distance" shooters with ridiculously large and expensive kit.

If you pest, .22 and .25 are so established. I find I never need more than .22, although I know there are plenty of people that like going up to .25 for raccoons.

Beeman Tempest Grips

One of the grips has broken and is loose,

I need new grips either factory or upgraded.

Doe's anyone know a source and are the Webley models compatible with the Beemans? Thanks.View attachment 160584
I know of such a place that has most all of the parts your Tempest will ever need ...just rebuilt both of mine and changed one to a .22
