Springer vs. PCP

Anybody that thinks springers are just as accurate as pcps needs to print out some 30 yard challenge targets and prove it. The only springer scores I've seen are much lower. But my poor view of springers is no doubt in large part because I've never shot a nice one.
I think it's probably that last part...

N/A  10 air gun questions from a new airgunner

just for your information my gun is a AEA Megalodon 22 inch 58 cal and my pump is GX cs4-i with added gx water/oil filter and added vibration hour counter

how often do you get the airtanks mounted on your guns checked or replace them?

what psi/bar do you store your guns when not using them? on 4500 psi max fill tank?

what do you use to clean and maintain your gun, i have a silicone oil made for airsoft guns its a liquid should i buy anything else and for what part of the gun should i use what?

when cleaning and oiling the gun do you take it apart and oil the inside of any parts of the gun?

when cleaning the barrel do you push a cloth towards the breech or pull a cloth towards the muzzle end? does it matter if your only using silicone oil and a snake with no metal?

if the gun is not regulated how far down will you shoot the tank before refilling?

do you guys fix and maintain your own guns or is it common to send them in to someone to be worked on?

how often do you guys replace a part or an O ring, im new to this and currently have zero spare parts and limited knowledge of the inner workings of the gun so im concerned it will stop working and ill be forced to send it in or be stuck with a non working gun, also i want to keep it working safely, i try to take very good care of equipment like this

what parts should i always have on hand to ready with a quick at home fix?

what is an expected lifetime of one of these big bore pcp guns?

is there anything else i should know? im always open to suggestions and criticism, thanks everyone hope its not too many questions at once

30-Yard Challenge

Wow - lots of great card submissions from our shooters !

I've got a couple submissions myself - even though its been so windy this week here.

First some thoughts on some the AEA pellets that I've been trying.

I've been getting some great results with little AEA .177 8.72g pellets. I've had great results with this pellet across three barrels and two air rifle brands. I'd recommend everyone pick up a tin and give them a try. I know that 8.72g seems too light - but they have been performers at 30 yards across a range of velocities. The AEA 10.3g and 13.7g also performed very well - as good as FX/JSB in my FX barrels.

The AEA pellets load much more smoothly than JTS.

I've also had awesome results with .25 AEA 29.63g shooting at 75 and 100 yards with my RTI Prophet .25LR.

I've just tried the AEA 15.89g in my Benjamin Cayden. They have performed very well despite crazy winds the past few days. My Cayden is tuned to shoot 15.89g at 800-820 fps (unregulated) over a 60+ shot string.

The AEA 21.9g performed good in my RTI Prophet .22LR - but JSB 20.83g are noticeably better in this Prophet. The AEA 21.9g did very well in my FX PowerPup at 75 yards. These AEA 21.9g did not do well in my .2 Taipan Vet 2 - shot a 169 40-Masters - definitely seemed to spiral at the 920-930fps I was shooting them from the Taipan.

SUBMISSIONS:
Target: 30-Challenge
Score: 194 9X
Rifle: Benjamin Cayden .22
Pellet: AEA 15.89g @ 810-820fps
Scope: Athlon Argos 10-40 SFP at 36X

Target: 40-Challenge
Score: 195 10X
Rifle: RTI Prophet Performance .22LR
Pellet: JSB 20.83g @ 907-914fps
Scope: Sightron SIII 45X fixed power

I'm also posting some other cards I shot with AEA pellets - including a 198 17X and 195 with Greg's (NAProf) barrel in my Crown Mk2. Greg should buy some of the AEA 8.72g to try when he eventually gets his barrel back from me. Dang, 17X - I don't get many 17X cards in a year.

I've also got a submission from with my Dreamline and maybe one other rifle from a week or two ago that I gotta dig up...

FX dreamline hammer spring tunning

Ok, ill give that a shot. Btw reg takes minutes to refill back to 125. But will stay above 120 for successive rapid shots. I will drop it as you suggest. I really appreciate yout guys help. I have asked the prev owner if it was a .25 out of the box or a converted 17 or .22. Just to isolate oit the hammer weight issue…if. hammer spring is at a plateau where i have it now, tighter or looser drops the fps. “Slider block” is just moveable
Previous owner tells me it was out of the boxe .25 cal an he put a power plenum on it. Dont actually know what that is but im checkin😂

FX dreamline hammer spring tunning

drop your reg to 115-120 and tell me what happens, touch nothing else. make 1/8 turns on the reg or drop 2-4 bar and shoot a few shots then continue, don't just dial down 10-15 bar. if your velo rises you were past plateau

FX  FX DRS Won't Cock (How to Fix) Mag also stuck in gun...

Too busy to work on an air rifle. I just sent it in for repair. Sometimes if a pellet is stuck half way into the barrel, a magazine hammering is the right thing to do and it sheers the pellet off and no one gets hurt. That had been my only experience after 400 rifles of having a mag stuck in a breach...so it seemed like the right thing to do at the time. Ooops! Also, who has ever heard or a charging handle being all the way back and the probe not following? Freaky FX rifle...
You can see the probe location if you look at the rifle from the side.
You ALWAYS and I repeat ALWAYS first check where the probe is located and if it's not jamming the magazine due to different reasons (usually a badly set trigger or maybe a probe screw that gets loose).

Then you can shear off the jammed pellet when you're 100% sure it's the pellet. Although the better method is putting the gun to safe, holding the cocking handle and using a dowel or a cleaning rod to reseat the pellet into the mag.

HW/Weihrauch  Frankenrauch

Did AOA list the .20 cal barrel for sale, or did you have to call and request it? When I bought my R9 from PA some years back I got it in .177 because Beeman branded HWs were very scarce at the time, and no one had .22. But PA offered the old style .22 barrel with the muzzle weight (back ordered at the time) so I got on the waiting list. Used .177 to break it in, but it was shooting so erratically that I finally broke it apart and discovered the piston seal was "cooked". Replaced with Vortek PG4 and their moly piston seal, and it turned in to quite a shooter in either caliber. But I have always had a hankering for a .20
Also by time you get those parts you'll be near half the cost of a 20 cal hw95

Call Shane at AOA (ext 150) and ask him if he has a barrel for you. He's a good guy. Tell him Ron Stearns sent you. I recommend getting a cocking arm and rivet too.

30 Cal pellet mold

Any one else going through he.. trying to find a 30 cal pellet mold? I spoke to AL @ NOE mold about 2 months ago and he has shut down for awhile due to illness. Well I have not been onsite in a couple of years but still here so I am on (probation) understandably. I will need to have some post to be able to do much on here. I am having a .30 cal pellet mold made as we speak we made one but it is very unfreindly to use. The prototype is to bulky we are cutting it down to make it more user freindly. I was able to do 160 pellets in 20 minutes but had to fight with cumbersome mold. I am making a 6 cavity mold so it will be worth firing up the melting pot. I did not mind buying pellets with my other air rifles but I purchased a Hatson blitz that should explain why I need a mold. When 2nd one is done I will be taking orders for 10 or more. As you all know it is expensive for the first mold CAD drwg, set up CNC etc. This mold is a 6 cavity so I had them made of steel not aluminum. I will be posting video of pouring and finished pellet. Hit me back with any intrest.

I am seriously interested in your mold. Have you improved your prototype to be more user-friendly? Hit me back and let me know how much and how you prefer payment.

AEA  Anybody know what causes this?

Yeah, I'm stumped. Like I said, I couldn't 'feel' anything. and the weirdest part is both O-rings are affected so it has to be something before the fill port because the fill port area is on the very end of the fill part of the tube. Then the two O-rings are following.
Apologies for another post.

I have no acquaintence with AEA, but the motivation in general reponses is the hope that I can offer something, given the lack of specific suggestions.

IME, the most frequent offenders in cut O rings has been threads. When a threaded hole and an O ring pass one another, such as when inserting a barrel with its O rings, past the threaded barrel set screw holes, the end of the last thread often protudes like a well-designed cutter.

IIRC, my Kral Mega had this problem, in spades and required judicious use of Dremel and round stone to chamfer the end of the threaded hole. I could remove the thread part that was protuding, then the next time the barrel was out, then in, the O rings would be cut again. IDK if I have photos of that, but it should be obvious what was the solution.

I have been engaged in many areas of the mechanical repair trades, for 75 years and still encounter many new, or unrecognized issues in PCPs that seemed not to crop up in other systems using similar constructions.

AEA  Anybody know what causes this?

Yeah, I might have to have a professional look at it. BUT....I installed hardware store O-rings currently. Not the exact fit, but it allows the tube to be filled. I did an overnight test and it is leaking down a little bit. I didn't think it would once it was filled. thoughts?
When I experience that kind of problem, I revisit the probkem: start over from the beginning with diagnosis, and follow through. As I age, increasingly I overlook something, so that may not be another's problem.

If you are still cutting an O ring, there may still be a sharp or shearing surface, or another area that is a problem but was not detected because it leaked so much less. *

* I am always concerned that my reply may appear to be disrespectful if I am repeating something that my interlocutor probably knows better than I.

I have chased some such problems in which I corrected a perceived problem, replaced the O ring, reassembled and had another leak.

My highly trusted FX distributor told me that he always replaces all the O rings when doing a service, having encountered issues with already installed rings. Funny that I learned that for hydraulics service, marine applications, ABS brake systems, then dummy that I am, didn't follow that when chasing HW100 leaks.

Western Airguns  Does the Western Mordax have enough fpe?

Who sells the Huben moderator in the USA "
Kelly at Krazcool. There are a number of excellent dealers in the USA but Kelly has the most exceptional customer experiences.

I personally am hanging around for a used Huben unit too as I have other moderators already. But if you want to get a new one, Kelly is your man.
