RAW Rapid  Anyone Recently Try a RAW MicroHunter in .177?

Since this thread came alive again, I had issues with my .177 MicroHunter, purchased directly from RAW. Worked with them via email trying all sorts of different things (couple thousand pellets overall) to get over 20% flyers (like by 3/4-1"). Got to the point where it sometimes could shoot a group without flyers, but only when using very heavy pellets and a CARM single shot tray.

They said I could return it for assessment and repair. I did. Waited 4 months and when I got it back they had maybe polished the barrel, rebuilt the regulator (which had always seemed to be working great), and changed the magazine out from the original RAW type (clear plastic lid) to a new RAW type (seems 3D resin printed).

And... the gun was worse than before, using the specific pellet they said I should use.

I ended up giving it to a friend, who had already gone through this with his MicroHunter, and ended up sending it to Martin for repair.

Does RAW just no longer understand their own products? Was the MicroHunter released before it was truly ready? Seems like Utah Airguns was cleaning out their inventory of MicroHunters recently, selling them cheap as 'open box' guns to get around any MAP issues.
This is disappointing to read as it seems to be a dandy pesting rig… The form factor is definitely spot on… Hopefully the issues you had are a one off? That said, it seems you weren’t treated fairly by RAW.

Events  2025 Republic of Texas April 25-27

Now that I have the scores entered, I can tell you that the lowest percentage non-positional targets today were the longer targets (Lane 1, far on lane 3, near on lane 15). Due to the swirly and gusty winds, that checks out. The kneeling lane was a struggle today, which is odd because it was pretty standard (1 inch at 22 yards, 1.5 inch at 35 yards).

Yesterday the pole target on 13 and the elevated owl target on 3 were the struggle targets. Kneeling was also tough yesterday, but the targets were tougher and hard to see if you chose to stand.

Thank you Jeff and Scott and all the other volunteers for all your efforts in putting another excellent RoT GP event. Both courses were very challenging but fun. I really appreciated the additional elevated targets. It was great to see so many familiar faces again. A fantastic weekend.

Panthera liner question

As long as its 600mm it’ll work fine. It likely has a 1:18 twist slug liner. If you shoot pellets, they have a 1:40 slow twist. You can change calibers to. Just need probe, carbon fiber liner sleeve for specific caliber, and a 600mm .22,.25 caliber liner…Lots of configs available. You can go up to 700mm or down to 500mm ss well.

What do you guys/gals think? ,your opinion wanted.

Man,you guys/gals have been great with all the good ideas and advice.
I've watched a few videos now on the uragon2 and Vulcan3 and the mag being flush looks to be up my ally.
You know,I've had war flex, edgun, kalibrgun and even hatsans ,did some work on all of them at some point and never damaged or got a feeling that I might damage something working in it but man this fx has me all rattled and I don't think I can get over it.One thing for sure somebody else will be doing any work on it if I were to keep it.
Gonna watch some more videos on the ideas that have been listed .
😀👍

30-Yard Challenge

100 Yards - in strong wind - with pellets

I'm documenting this for my reference - I thought I'd share this with you guys - in case you are interested...

I was shooting at 100 yards on Friday at my brother's house. He lives in the middle of the woods and is an avid hunter/fisherman. We mapped out a 100 yard range outside his back door - named it the "Pete Gillis Memorial Range" - in honor of our Dad, an avid outdoorsman.

I was supposed to get to my brother's at 8:30am, knowing that the wind would get bad by noon. I overslept due to bourbon consumption and showed up at 10:30am. The wind was already kicking up. My brother informed that it was very calm at 8am - serves me right for drinking.

It was so windy (weather app reported gusts to 30mph - and that could have been understated) but I wanted to play with the new-to-me .30 Wildcat Mk 2. It has some history as a consistent 1.25" 5-shot group performer at 100 yards.

The rifle shoots insane sub-Moa (.5") 5-shot groups at 50 yards at my house. I had made some hammer spring adjustments at home and it chronoed a perfect 900fps when I got to my brother's - so at least I got that right.

The wind was switching, as all high wind does, but it was mostly L to R. I used just two wind flags at 25 and 75 yards - this was just a casual shoot to sight-in/dial-in the rifle at 100, not to shoot for score. I had to keep chasing my hat and my large cardboard targets - the wind kept blowing them away, lol.

Anyways, I thought the rifle did fantastic in the conditions. I've shot in 100-yard benchrest competitions and they never had wind this bad. Note that the vertical spreads were very reasonable (I thought) in windy conditions. A few shots jumped high or low - likely because the wind was slightly headwind or tailwind as well as L to R on those shots.

I'm showing you my two "10-shot" targets (one is 11 and one is 8 after some sight-in shots). I'm showing you the targets as I saw them and then marked up versions that give you the details of what was happening.

One interesting thing is that I fell off the reg on the paper plate target while shooting the 4 sight-in shots (walking them towards target - 3" splatter). Note the 1.5" drop of the off-reg shot of 865fps. At 30 yards, a 30fps drop in velocity might show as 1/4" at most. It was great to have an air tank with me. TommyB inspired my to get a tank - it makes filling when at the range very convenient.

Despite the bad shooting conditions, I hung in there and waited for lulls in the wind when the flags were not moving real fast - and both flags were pointing Right. Still, it was really tough to judge.

Note also on the cardboard target that I made "reference marks". I knew I'd have to hold left quite a bit and my Sightron 45X scope is just a simple thin crosshair. Without target rings to hold off on, I thought to make myself a couple marks on the target - so I don't appear to be that hung over, lol.

For you guys that shoot almost always inside 50 yards, shooting 100 yards is a different ball game and 100 yards in heavy wind is all about patience. I sometimes would have 5 minutes between shots. If you just ignore the wind, pellets - even .30 cal 44g - will just blow all over the place. The flat part of the paper plate is about 5.5" diameter. Put one out at 100 yards sometimes and note how small it looks, lol.

Anyways, I plan to do a bunch of 100 yard shoots at my brother's this year. It gives me a chance to see him as well as play with some of my bigger caliber air rifles - really stretch them out.

If any of our shooter's here have any questions about shooting at 100, feel free to reach out. I'm no expert, but I can offer what I've experienced to date. Most accurate PCPs shooting 25+ grain pellets can do well out to 75 yards in decent wind conditions. Beyond 75-80 yards things get a lot different.

Nice write up Ed. 👍

I love shooting 100 yards and beyond but stopped shooting since the place where we usually shoot at is now off limits.

We have an alternative range and we can shoot up to 210 meters but we are only limited to .22 cal 18+gr max during competitions and just a tiny small puff of air will blow the 18+gr off course even at 75 meters. How much more if the targets are 100 meters and beyond. 😆

Daystate  Black wolf: I'm not lazy, but...

I'll be curious if you can get down to 20 fpe easily as I read another thread where AoA needed to restrict the transfer port and some other stuff to get the power down to FT range. These new Black Wolves have a powerful balanced valve and want to shoot hot.
Yeah, the fpe with the tested pellets was 31+. I definitely don't need that kind of power since I really just want to punch paper accurately at 30 or 40 yards...

Wifi connectivity issues dnt zulus hd520 LFR

My wi fi is good i have repeaters around the house and never have issues with other devices. The scope arrived today. After downloading the app and trying to connect the scope it didn't like my wifi, but it said "connect offline" ( whatever that means). I tried deleting and re installing the app. I tried 2 that on different phones. I tried using a 5g hotspot instead of wifi. I want to like this thing but if i cant successfully transfer balistic tables its not worth the price. Did anyone else experience these connectivity issues?
On the scope menu my transfered table isn't in the system settings window with the version number at the bottom where it should be, but if you go in menu, then balistic options, then balistic table settings It is in there "jsb50.2slug". When I transfer a table from the app it says "synced". I will also write to dnt optics and see what they suggest.
I successfully zeroed it at 10 yards indoors. I figured out how to create tables. I will try it out at 50 yards tomorrow and see how it looks and re zero it.
Any feedback appreciated
Thanks David
I really want to like it the size is amazing but I'm pretty close to returning it. I will give it a few days and see if dnt can help me. Thank you for all the suggestions.

Daystate  Black wolf: I'm not lazy, but...

Based on my experience with Daystate and their .177 17" barrel in a Red Wolf and an Alpha Wolf, I would try the following pellets as I have had extreme success out to 50 yards and more with these:
  • Benjamin Single Die 10.5gr. (great in the 880-900 range)
  • H&N Barracuda Match 10.65gr 4.50mm head size. (great in the 880-900 range)
  • Daystate 12.6gr Howler Slugs. (920-940fps works well in my Red Wolf)
Thanks! I didn't think about slugs, but I have a few I could try, but not the one mentioned. The others you mentioned I have on my short list. I was hoping it would like the JTS 10.4 or the JSB 10.3's. Cheers! I will report later after some testing.

Wifi connectivity issues dnt zulus hd520 LFR

I've found that when you connect to a wifi network without Internet access, turn on airplane mode. Your device keeps trying to find Internet in the background. Works on my DNT app and Natechrony.
Just tried airplane thank you for the suggestion, but it still connected "offline". I transferred a table but it's not on the scope.
