Daystate  Wolverine

Hi ChickenD,

I've owned a .22 Wolverine R HP for a few years now, I'll give you my thoughts on the rifle. Mine is the green camo laminate stock - exactly like in this video. My velocities are exactly like in this video.

My thoughts:
Crazy heavy trigger out of the box - see another thread today where I suggest a fix that works well. (heaviest trigger out-of-the box that I've ever experienced on a PCP - and I've owned lots of PCPs from every major brand).

The .22 HP seems to have been designed around a single pellet JSB/FX 25.39g (MRD). It shoots them at 895-900fps as delivered. It shoots 18.13g at 1,025fps and 15.89g at 1,040fps. Stunningly, I have achieved excellent accuracy doing precision target shooting at 30 and 40 yards with 18.13s at that ridiculous velocity (200 in 30-Yard Challenge and 197 at 40 Yard Challenge).

The HP is a very long and bulky feeling rifle in hand. It feels lighter than it looks, but it is not "maneuverable" . Its form is well suited to benchrest.

Daystate drove me crazy with the stupic 0-ring in the shroud carrier - it would rip out and break every time I removed the shroud. It is an unusual size - I was able to get the exact size and some close-to sizes from the O-Ring store that work well. I actually shot some of my best scores with no o-ring installed on the carrier - essentially free-floating the barrel inside the shroud.

Despite its power, the HP has a very nice shot cycle, it is more mellow than you think,

The Wolverine is adjustable for power. You do this via adjusting the length of hammer throw on the Slingshot Hammer. It is straightforward, you have to do it with the stock off. You can also adjust regulator pressure. I've rebuilt my reg, it does take quite a bit of disassembly to adjust regulator. Heck, Daystate uses the same 18mm diameter hammer spring in everything - so you can even swap hammer springs if you desire, lol. The delivered regulator pressure is high - about 162-165bar from Daystate's tune.

The Wolverine R HP CANNOT be decocked like most PCPs! I had a Daystate rep explain that the rifle was designed to have the action open when walking from station to station (field target shooting in mind for the design I guess). With the cocking lever back (open), you cannot fire the rifle. However, you cannot decock by pressing the trigger while holding the cocking lever. Strange "feature".

I've thought many times that I would have preferred the non-HP .22 Wolverine. It is shorter, more maneuverable and shoots 18.13s at "normal" 880fps velocities. The .25 Wolverine R HP seemed a better choice than .22 for the big 600mm barrel HP format. However, the HP barrels are polygonal rifling and the standard barrels are not - and the polygonal have been great shooters for me.

So, I would have recommended the .25 over the .22 if you wanted an HP Wolverine.... until just the past year. Now there are the JSB 20.83g pellets and the JTS/AEA 22.07g. These pellets are ideally suited the the .22 HP's factory power level - they shoot at 925 and 915fps and have been delivering excellent results target shooting. The .22 HP platform always seemed a bit underpowered to me for the 25.39g. At 890fps, I would get great accuracy at 75 yards, but things fell apart quickly at longer distances out to 100. I didn't get good results at 100 - but I'm shooting at a windy "range".

In conclusion, the .22 Wolverine R HP is a bit quirky, but its accurate. You are buying one at the perfect time - as the pellet choices now available suit it better than when I got my .22 HP. Buy yourself some JSB 20.83g and some JTS 22.07g and have some fun.

Hope this helps,

-Ed
that was just terrific.

What do you guys/gals think? ,your opinion wanted.

Screw FX and other manufactors that do not think of US!
I be blunt
I found enough lefty-friendly; Get a RAW in lefty. Many air rifles can be switched, which is also what I do.I know some lefties do not mind a right action, but I do not like them; I want the action to be on the left side.I do have a couple of righty Bullpups;a pain I can manage until I can't .What I do not get is this BS has been going on forever, yet there is no revolt or groups that come together to put some pressure on the air gun makers to try a little harder.........it about money and they do not think it worth their trouble to make lefty friendly air rifle.....why the, buy from aholes, you do have choices!o_O
:ROFLMAO:
It's crazy that both Fredrik & his son Johan, the owners of FX, are both left handed. Yet, they make airguns like the Maverick or Leopard that are so unfriendly to us LH shooters. Both are really great guys but I don't understand, why not make them ambidextrou?

What did you do airgun related today.

I finished roughing out the clamp on stock for the 170cc air cylinder I adapted to the back of my .177 Panthera Hunter Compact. Still need to clean it up, bead blast it, and anodize. Credit for the idea goes to tdhouser. He may or may not have been the first, but his sweet Panthera was the first one I saw using the FX 170cc cylinder as a base for the stock.

About $2.00 worth of pure lead and powder coating..A few hundred slugs....Beat tariffs... lol
2k + guns are cool what ever the name comes with that price , but me personally after I could see what a good cast bullet could do and how easy is if this is the kind of thing you like of the hobby, to simply order order the tooling, send it to TJ have the barrel made to your liking and shoot bullets from your AF platform, I really don't see any fun in buying a 2k pcp and start testing to see what it likes and be the slave then of that particular slug manufacturer.. at least for the kind of use I give to my guns.. so in my future the only thing I could see my self doing if I want something new.. is just buying barrel and have them machined wich is not that complicated in a AF .. no more purchased pcp for me .. next on my which list is 177 in a 7 twist for 30gr .. a 6mm in a 11.5 twist for 75 to 80gr .. n the last a .300 for 125 to 130gr but this one need a sway bullet first to know how long it would be to calculate the twist..

Light vs heavy slug expansion

I use primarily two types of slugs in my FX Maverick VP .30cal:

  • FX Hybrid Slugs 44.5gr
  • H&N Slug IIs 50gr
The Hybrid Slugs almost completely hollow design offers phenomenal expansion as well as a great ballistic profile when used on groundhogs. Here is a recovered Hybrid Slug after a full passthrough at around 55-60 yards.

Adobe_20240501_204235.png

The H&N on the other hand, will blow straight through the shoulders of groundhogs at 70 yards and would drop them DRT 95% of the time, but do full penetration with a fair amount of velocity afterwards.

Kind of off subject that you folks are talking about but, I’m considering buying an L2 in .25 with the intent on changing everything to a 9mm.
Existing setup is 600mm and I’d like to keep that configuration for the end power to hunt coyotes and such. My question is, what all does it take to make such a conversion and which barrel might be the best candidate in a subMOA 600??

What did you order / receive airgun related today? Thread

Just ordered this as this is the best price I've seen for it...

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0728HC759?language=en_US

Will arrive Tues.
Very nice thanks for the link.
I Think this is an awesome piece of gear. Kicking me down the rabbit hole , but I love it. Must be the nicest tripod I have ever seen.

Tariffs Explained - Pyramyd AIR Insyder

Yes, things were always better in the past because the inconvenient parts may be ignored and only the positives noted. Of course most of the people these days that reference those eras were not alive to experience them.
off topic but I remember $1 gallon diesel.. but then I remember almost crying when it was up around $5 gallon and I pumped 100 gallons in the truck 😳
I've been noticing it's going down here a little $3.50 gas or diesel.. but on SS now I just prefer to stay home and cut wood or something..

Kraford & Lypt 's unresponsiveness

Does anyone know if Krafford & Lypt is still in business?
Last January I chose to continue buying products made by K&L ; this time, directly from them, a USA made a Gen 4 extended rail trigger guard for FX's M4. Much to my regret the magnetic/ aluminum foster fill port cover came off while walking afield . Despite many repeated attempts during the past 3 months to reach this company by e mails , telephone calls and even an unreturned USPS priority mailed letter to buy the missing part , their lack of response makes me wonder if they are still in business . It is beyond rational comprehension to blatantly ignore client's request or needs. Any information about this company that may be of help in this situation will be appreciated.

Other  Huben Power Cricket-MAX-ATH Regulator

I'd be modding my g30 today for a 250cc+ plenum but the delivery company lost the U valve (bag ripped) so I only have the tube and regulator.

Only problem is the plenum setup adds even more weight to a heavy gun. But the 250cc tube means a lighter CF bottle can be used to get the same 700cc volume i have now. Still will be heavier but I usually shoot the g30 from a tripod. I have lighter rifles for pests. Reximex Throne 2 .25 or Niksan Ozark S .22, Airforce Condor .25 and Talon .22 and .25.
Wait what's the U valve?

Mounts/Rings  SOLD Four 1" one-piece scope mounts

Over time, I have accumulated these four one-piece 1” scope mounts. They have been mounted but are like new and still contain the black adhesive tape the way they are shipped. I see no scratches. I am an old guy and like walnut and steel and two-piece mounts, although the one-piece are probably a wiser choice. Three are Gamo and the other possibly a BSA. The Gamo’s are medium height and the BSA medium-high or high. Asking $12 each shipped OBO. PayPal F & F appreciated.

Airgun Shooting bench?

Our best bench is made with Trex type decking on top and pressure treated wood underneath. It's been in the elements for years and is still perfect. Manufactured "wood" like Trex is expensive but we got ours on sale at Home Depot because they had some odd lengths. It ended up being cheaper than regular lumber. Our other two benches have laminate flooring on top. Not as durable or weatherproof but it's tongue and groove is nice and flat. If you want to use plywood, coating it with spray on, truck bed liner will make it impervious to the elements and very durable!

HW/Weihrauch  Skirtless piston

I missed that you were inquiring about skirtless for a 97.

I do like the skirtless set-up in my TX, but it’s target only and sub-12. Running bronze bearings machined for fit in the comp tube, and set as far apart as possible helps with stability. Having a perfect or near perfectly straight rod is necessary too.

As with any tune, everything needs to be in balance….piston weight, spring rate, port size, stroke and pellets being used. Go too light on the piston, too light on spring, too small on port size or too heavy on pellets and you may see some accuracy robbing bounce. I’ve got mine set up at 90mm stroke and just over 155 grain piston weight including tophat and tuned for 7.87 to 8.44gr range.

Is that the normal hollow TX style seal on there?

my favorite posts section.

@Mr. Stoti,

I have been contemplating the Gk1 but do not know enough about them to make a decision if it will be applicable to my situation. My main concern is does it have a safety & if so how reliable is the safety if the pistol is bumped. Do you happen to know how the safety works I.E. a cross block for the trigger? Or perhaps one that prevents the charge of air from being released to fire a shot. Any and all experience you are willing to share would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Sincerely, RadioFlyer
