Hornets nest

Not my friend when they nested inside a tree holding up my backstop, three feet from my target stand you can see in picture. I've been unable to shoot at home for some time..
honey bees are always our friend.... their pollination feeds the planet. But no tree hugging here... just saying call a bee keeper as they are always looking to relocate honey bees.

FWB  Feinwerkbau 800X air rifle cylinder

My FWB 800X has been put aside for about 5 years with the air cylinder empty ( big mistake ? ). I took it out today to fill it up, all apparently went well , at least the pressure could be built and there was no hissing sound indicating leakage. When I checked it after about an hour , the pressure dropped to zero. When I tried to fill it up again, air was escaping freely through what seems to be a bleed hole on the cylinder ( see the photos ) . There is one such hole near each end of the cylinder. I believe it's a safety feature to prevent building up of excessive pressure but I filled it up to just about 120 bars today and the rated pressure is 200 bars. Now I need to fix it but I could not find any exploded diagrams of the cylinder on line. Does anyone know the structure inside ? I hope I will just need to replace a bust disc or something alike. Fingers crossed .....

RAW Rapid  RAW HM1000X .25 or .30 cal

I took one of my .30’s HM100X’s to the range today. Pretty mild conditions 4-6 winds. I was experimenting with a FX tuner on the end of the barrel but didn’t have much success. I would show the whole target but it looks like it’s been hit multiple times with a 12 gage and would not make much sense to anyone but me. RAW’s are certainly capable if the nut behind the trigger can get a handle on reading the wind? Here are a few cherry picked 5 shot groups @100Y without the tuner.

This may be my smallest group ever shot at 100Y?

I would be happy with those groups for sure.

RAW Rapid  RAW HM1000X .25 or .30 cal

I have a hm1000x in .22 with barrel set in .25 .30 and .35 that do the following values with the same reg pressure and hammer settings.
Reg is a Huma regulator

.22 jsb monsters redesigned 25 gr 67 joule
.25 jsb 34 gr 80 joule.
.30 jsb 45 gr 114 joule.
.35 is a work in progress 😩 needs a bigger plenum and reg pressure.

The all shoot hole in hole at 75 meters.
That's amazing

What pistol did you shoot today

I have had this scope for many years now and it's been on many pistols..I bought it for my S & W model 41 comp pistol in 1978...mainly because it was shorter in length.. it's a Leupold M8 - 4X power very clear optics with a duel cross recital so at about 15 meters a 1" dot will fill the larger post ..that helps me stay on target better than trying to watch the fine cross hairs instead...the eye relief is quite lengthy but manageable...I do believe that Leupold still carry's a lifetime warranty still ...1" scope rings.. the Vintage Weaver 1" Scope Rings Mounts With Large Thumb Wheels are my most favorite scope rings to use it's very clean looking over today's rings...there are a few sets left on eBay for about 25 dollars.. eBay item number:388765348256...this one is still available...I just bought the other set...sorry I couldn't help myself...as for the scope I just looked on eBay and almost hit the floor...they are going for 500 dollars used..holy crap..here's the item number if you want to check it out....eBay item number:277106566603....I only took it off the 41...because I started shooting competition plates and I needed a red dot for faster target acquisition...I put on a Quick Point from Weaver...with variable 4,6,8 MOA I can cut cards @25 yards with that pistol...if you need anymore info Steveoo..hit me back...Marker
That's great information friend thank you. It looks very nice with a clean simplicity just like the 150 it's fixed to.

What springer did you shoot today?

I had the Lazer and lens put in eyes last year. Don’t wear glasses any more.
The sights are what came on and not sure if correct.
The 601 was shooting so low.
I haven’t bought a gas can in 20+ years. Bought one last month and the 601 shot so low I hit my new gas can. View attachment 583742PMO. My mistake. Shot 10 inches low. Not the greatest target holder. 10 meters.
These guns are the best. Crow
Really Crow? That wasn't the brightest idea. I'm surprised at you.

Oh I don't think you have enough hanging targets either 🤣

Love ya Dave

Much safer to put out fipronil — all dead in less than 24hr without risk to your health.

Yeah, yeah, I hear you.... 🙄
This method "without risk to your health" is a risk to our entertainment at somebody else's expense!! 😲

PS:
BlackICE, in all seriousness, your post was excellent, extremely well informed. 👍🏼👍🏼

Much safer to put some fipronil on the bait they like, all dead in less than 24hr without risk to your health.

Based on the provided search results, here's information on baiting for Dolichovespula maculata (bald-faced hornet):
Baits and attractants
  • Sweet Baits (late season): Late in the season, when bald-faced hornets are primarily focused on obtaining carbohydrates (sugars) for energy, they are effectively attracted to sweet substances.
    • Examples include:
      • Sugar water
      • Water mixed with jam or fruit jelly
      • Fruit juice
      • Rotten or overly ripe fruit, like bananas
      • Beer
      • A blend of water, vinegar, and sugar
  • Protein Baits (early season/mid-season): Early in the season, when bald-faced hornets are focused on raising young, they require protein to feed their developing larvae. Studies show that they have strong preferences for certain meats and are attracted to protein sources.
    • Examples include:
      • Minced chicken
      • Fish meat
      • Partially cooked ground beef
      • Liverwurst
      • Minced pork or beef (viscera or meat)
      • Bologna
      • Hot dogs
  • Acetic Acid and Isobutanol Combinations: Research indicates that bald-faced hornets (Dolichovespula maculata) are attracted to acetic acid and are even more strongly attracted to a combination of acetic acid and isobutanol.
Important considerations
  • Seasonal Baiting: Adjusting your baiting strategy based on the time of year is important.
    • Early season: Focus on protein-rich baits to target queens and workers involved in raising young.
    • Late season: Switch to sweet baits to effectively target worker wasps.
  • Trap Design: Effective traps, whether purchased or DIY, are important for containing the hornets.
    • DIY traps can be made from plastic bottles with an inverted top section and bait at the bottom.
    • Adding dish soap to liquid baits reduces surface tension, making it harder for hornets to escape and speeding up drowning.
  • Preventing Bee Attraction: When using sweet baits, adding vinegar can deter bees.
  • Toxic Baits (Use with Caution): Toxic baits, like those containing fipronil, can be effective at controlling populations, but their use requires caution due to potential risks to non-target organisms and environmental contamination. Studies on hydrogel baits are exploring ways to improve the safety and effectiveness of toxic baiting.
  • Nest Treatment: If a nest is located, professional pest control services or careful application of insecticide dusts can be used to treat the nest directly, but caution is necessary to avoid being stung or scattering the wasps.
In summary, selecting the appropriate bait for Dolichovespula maculata depends on the time of year and the hornets' nutritional needs. Sweet baits are effective in late summer and fall, while protein baits are better suited for early and mid-season. Combining sweet and sour elements, like sugar, water, and vinegar, can also be effective. Utilizing attractants like acetic acid and isobutanol can further enhance baiting efforts. Regardless of the bait type, using well-designed traps and taking precautions to avoid bee attraction and minimize environmental risks are essential for effective and responsible bald-faced hornet control.

Air Venturi  AV Avenger Bullpup, Reg in the Red?

I don’t think you would damage it by opening it all the way if anything follow the procedure to reset a star with about 1400 psi and zero Hammer and they didn’t take your time. You can always go higher on the pressure and you can always go up and down on the hammer Until the rifle start shooting the the projectors you choose the way you want. I figure if you need more than 2600 psi on the rack you shooting too heavy for that particular gun but let’s see how it goes.
I'm not so sure about not causing damage by opening it up. I'm worked the damage is done. Springs, o-rings, etc have been exposed to the higher pressure for several days+. I just didn't wanna go thru the process of tuning it, rezero, etc only to find it's creeping all over and needs repair.

Robert Lane closing shop for indefinate period

Just as a heads-up if your gun happens to have a dedicated reg/plenum gauge, replacing it with a digital gauge is very useful for setting up reg pressure.

When all else fails

Darts, spears/javelins, boomerangs/rabbit sticks, atlatls, slings, slingshots, bows, crossbows, springers, PCPs, shotguns, rimfires, centerfires and Spitfires (in a WW2 flying simulation) - all have different performances and require different skill.

All are enjoyable in their own unique ways. 😁

...So I'm fickle (or call it A.D.D. LOL!) and can't restrict myself to one shooting interest. (I'm just as bad with fishing). Keeps life interesting! 🤪

Cheers!
