N/A  .177 for slugs (primarily at least)?!

I wonder if the U3 hammer is compatible in the U2. Although I assume you'd likely have to swap both hammer and valve.

But I will update today!
The U3 hammer seems longer, so yeah, valve would have to be changed as well. Other then that the mechanics look pretty identical, didn’t measure though.

Looking forward to hear that you don’t hear anything from the U2 anymore :) U3 doesn’t ping but has a hard hammer sound as well, very snappy. It’s a different hammer but conceptually the same thing… so another candidate for the same medicin.

Umarex  Notos Bolt Probe Alignment

I don't remember ever jamming a pellet in the NOTOS but I have with other guns. If you cast pellets you might run into that from time to time during testing with various guns. I have a .177 brass cleaning rod that I put the plastic patch fitting on the end of and carefully run it down the muzzle and tap the pellet back into the mag or out if no mag. I have yet to distort a crown or damage any rifling. I do it like I do anything else airgun related... slow and with purpose.
Admittedly I did get a pellet jammed in my .25 Avenger once that I had to destroy a Big Air mag to get it out. Still no damage to the gun.
After that I bought or made sizers and size every pellet I cast.

Umarex  Notos cocking got gritty

Get Molly and grease it. It's simple enough to do and may save you hours of time diagnosing the problem. With the help of @Tim23 , that's what solved it for me. Anytime it starts to feel "sticky" or "gritty", Molly gets applied. Haven't had an issue since doing this.
I think what happens is the hard anodizing wheres through and allows galling between the bolt and housing when cocking. High side forces are applied during this operation.

They feel pretty close to the same weight, but I don't have a small scale to compare.

Looking for a Neighborhood friendly Silencer for the Huben GK1 .25

I run it in “carbine” setup, so the huge moderator is not a very big issue. But this mod50 is the only thing that was able to silence the gk1.

Wanted a longer barrel but not a longer OAL and to keep it looking original. 16" barrel. It's one of the rarer ones in .25cal shooting 26gr hades at 860-880fps. No choke so 25gr or so slugs also shoot pretty well. Only a magazine (10 shots a fill if I max out at 55fpe) I prefer to get more shots so I have it down around 45fpe so I can get a few mags a fill. Not bad for a 24" overall length.
Truly a master at your craft! Can't wait till mine is done!

Barra  Slugs in the 250z

So here's my advice with slugs in any gun, especially ones with unchoked barrels. You can try a ton of different slugs in different sizes till you find one that's the most accurate. Nothing worng with that method. Or you could slug the barrel and measure the slug with a micrometer to find a good starting point in the right slugs size to buy and try.

I found alot of chineese barrels are oversized. I sluged a Umarex zelos .25 barrel and it sluged at .2541. Also vulcans, uragans, leshy and few other run oversized barrels.
Example a vulcan .30 cal shot ok/good with .300 size slugs. But it was stupid accurate with .3063 size. The right size as the barrel sluged at .3061.

I noticed oversized bore are particularly common on chineese barrels. With the zelos oversized at .254, it made sense why .249 were terrible and .250 slug weren't particularly accurate. Some were ok or possibly acceptable at shorter ranges like 50 yards. But at long range it will become more apparent.

In addition it's possible to be loosing 20 to 30 fps with the same grain slug that is undersize to the grove of the barrel. I ordered .254 slugs to try. In general you want the slug to fill and seal the grooves. Just something to think about with unchoked barrel and slugs.

Best advice you can give, I really really dislike the "TRY 100 different ammos" method, it gets costly, and disappointing, gives me a sour puss on my face lol.

Slugging the barrel is the best advice one can give 👏

Looking for a Neighborhood friendly Silencer for the Huben GK1 .25

Looks like I have a project to start this weekend - I’m a mod freak always looking for the ultimate device to silence my crew of GKs (Standard, Shorty and Super Shorty) and I have a few lined up to test with my db meter.

I tried my latest purchase yesterday - the Buck Rail modular can (1.2” tapered) and to my ear, it’s close to the quietest I’ve tried but my ears might be deceiving me so it bears some work to see. I ran it on my Super Shorty and was pretty pleased.

My “backyard” is a home in a small suburban neighborhood with sensitive ears around me, not urban, so YMMV if my experience would work for your situation.

I’ll post today with some meter readings for various cans I have at hand and you can judge for your own situation.

Stay tuned.

Here’s a breakdown of what I have to test:

I’ll start with two Buck Rail modular cans today and see how it goes.

Regards,
Mark
Thanks for any help on the moderators, I have a Donnyfl Tanto and my GK1 is still not backyard friendly, looking forward to your final choice.

N/A  EVOL vs Epic two

I also wonder, does the Epic use a titanium air tube? Thats another huge material difference in the two if so. Both epic versions look like sweet rifles, I actually love the look of the 2 in walnut and in 300mm configuration, I would buy one, I also love whats going on with the 1.

All that aside, I do agree with the fact that if I was spending the same coin , or relatively close, and one product was made with cheaper/inferior materials, I'd probably not choose that product.

Crazy price of used guns

I know prices,I know what it takes do custom something ,money and time spent.Truthfully the only thing I can not do is make a stock.I think we are talking more about the time involved to do something right. Also wouldn't you want to keep the gun you fixed up for yourself?
Custom stocks usually cost more than the gun it is made for.
Your work is free ,Thank you.🤣
Custom stocks are another whole issue. If I were to sell a rifle, I would put the original stock on it and sell the custom stock separately. I've bought lots of guns just for the wood.

Other  Taipan shroud on a Ghost?!?

My personal opinion is that the original Veteran came with the most effective OEM shroud/husher of any airgun that I've played with.

This is a statement that I can completely agree with 100% , I once met another shooter at a permission in NY, he had never laid eyes on a Taipan, only FX products, all I ever put on my Taipans were Huggett Atoms (as you know) , I took a shot, he was about 40 yards from me and heard the 18.13 hit a pigeon in the head. He goes " WTH did you just shoot?! I didn't even hear a thing except the THWACK off the pigeon!!"

Not to mention, theyre a great looking little bullpup. 24" OAL is tiny!!! thats like Caiman territory, whats the shot report like?

Crazy price of used guns

He knows that Gamo is now making
"cphps" they're marketing gamo HPs under the Crosman Premier label. 7.9CPHP is now 7.6CPHP which were the Gamo HPs.
I don't know about .22 yet. But the old CPHP .177 are about to go bye bye
If Daisy bought out Crosman I wonder why they wouldn't also own the pellet making equipment and continue using it to produce the pellets?

Crazy price of used guns

Having actually run a business off FB Marketplace, being in many hobbies that required me to buy and sell. Its very easy to see that a lot of airgunners don't actually want to sell their rifles based on prices they ask, people are typically asking what seems to be 80-90% of new cost.

I never had an issue selling anything as far as waiting around for a buyer because of fair pricing.

However I do get it though, when a new rifle costs $2200 and someone only has $1800 and they saved for a while, they might just buy the used rifle instead of the new one.

I always priced my stuff at 70% of new, not 80% , which on $2200 investment was $1540, not $1760 at the 20% (or higher) off rule.
