What are the downsides of semi-auto?

I agree with the general consensus that semi-auto is a not necessarily needed but are cool to have. I have had two in my hobby journey. An LCS19 and a Huben. The LCS was not all that accurate and was underwhelming. The Huben was much more accurate and was fun, and did provide me some needed fairly accurate followup shots on game a few times. I don’t have any semi-autos now and don’t miss them.

Petition to Allow Laser Range Finders in Field Target Competitions

Im conflicted about this.......
Im sure it would add some points to my score. But.... it's one more thing to carry around and manage while your in the shooter's box and "on the clock". If you become dependent on it, then it dies during the match, you're back to doing it the old method anyway

Ive shot matches with some _very_ talented shooters. the kind of folks who only miss 5 over the course of a two-day match. Handing those kinds of talent a range finder could/will lead to courses being cleaned. Course designers and match directors will then start upping the difficulty levels to prevent that, making it even harder on shooters who aren't as proficient.

IMO there are other ways to grow the sport, but that's for another thread.......

AirMaks Arms  Katran Compact in .22 - oh Yeah!

25 yards, CPHP 14.3, bench with front bed pillow supports, wind likely under 10mph, but much lower when I zeroed for the wife. I don't recall how many shots taken. She learned that a black reticle on a black small target took an adjustment. Out of the family of 4, 3 liked and 1 firmly stated sticking with her Diana 34 (yes, teenage stuff). Can't shoot a pcp with a scope the same as a springer with irons. AN, I'm seriously consider letting go of my L2 to fund a Katran or Krait now. Oh, I'm steeling the wife's thunder in this posting. This is HER target and she wants to hold on to it:

30-Yard Challenge

Speaking of Crowns... I swapped the 700mm barrel off of my .22 Crown and swapped the 500mm back on.

I had been shooting heavier pellets with the long 700mm barrel since last fall. The rifle shoots great with the 700mm, but it was always insanely accurate with the 500mm shooting 18.13g.

I was texting Greg and Tommy after I did the swap. Sighting it in with the 500mm, I shot 1 group at 40 yards - 5 shots measured .126" center to center - I texted it to Tommy and Greg and said it was now time for a card...

...Tommy texted back and said that I better shoot a 240, lol.

Well, first card with the .22 Crown at 500mm is a leaderboard submission for 40-Challenge (but not a 240):
197 11X
.22 Crown Mk 2 (500mm)
FX 18.13g at 900fps (FX Chrono)
Sightron SII 36X fixed power.

Here is a picture of the current state of my two Crowns. The blue one is using Greg's (NAProf) 380mm .177 barrel. The green one is the .22 500mm. I recently swapped the 480cc bottle on the green Crown to 580cc. Both Crowns bought off the AGN Classifieds. The blue one came with a synthetic stock but had the big 580cc bottle. I found the blue stock used on the AGN Classifieds. Both rifles are insanely accurate as per my leaderboard submissions. I've done some modest work on both rifles refining them (even improvements to the crummy FX triggers) - but if your looking to target shoot with pellets, its hard to beat a used Crown or Dreamline for the money.

Ed,
I think the 380mm barrel on the Crown looks awesome! With the moderator it has the look of a hunting carbine, but shoots like a target rifle. A lot of folks pooh-pooh the Superlight barrel system, but I think it makes a lot of sense.

Adding mass to the barrel doesn't damp the vibrations, it only moves the natural frequency lower (maybe out of the range of the exciting frequency). Retaining the barrel at specific positions along its length with o-rings limits the y and z axis motions (but not rotational motions), effectively creating a node. Changing the vibration mode shape by introducing nodes can decrease vibration amplitude. The weak point is the system is only as robust as the shroud. So I am very careful not to whack the barrel when using my Crown for FT.

Sorry for the engineering musings.

Cheers,
Greg

P.S. - I am trying to design a Crown-type liner retaining system for the DRS.

At the DIFTA group they had a great cookout after the match. The cooking would start towards the end of the match. Then everyone would pitch in cleaning up the course. By the time the score was tabulated we had sausage and burgers chips and soda. No one had to run off to get lunch . And you could all talk about the day.

go to your email they should have provided a link. If not sign into your huma account it will be on there. theyre very good with shipping to us in the states.. I don't know how well the royal mail works. But, when i order from krale or huma i get my package in 4 days, when i order from B&K or bestfittings it takes 10-12
thank you for your help mate👌 yeah me and my partner went to whatapp and we had a reply and they've sent us the tracking now, and it hasn't even left their country as yet😂, I did think it would be somewhere like that, I don't really mind the wait tbh, and yes best fitting's is the uk because I've had parts from them for a different gun, I've not ordered from krale as yet, but there the same place as huma aren't they? but still from bestfittings it's not a bad wait time though really is it, do you mind me asking what you shoot? are you a hunter or just someone who like's just shooting a few can's in your back garden, thank you for your help once again 👍 all the best Dave, I'm not sure how to pronounce your name (sorry) do you have a nickname? thank you anyway.

Events  Some thoughts for match directors or clubs trying to Grow Field Target

I just started a club in Iowa and no one knew about field target at the first match. I am really excited to see how the second match goes. Everyone was very excited about it and seemed to have fun.
As soon as I built the shooting range I looked around and noticed there was no place for everyone to sit. Seems like a picnic table is mandatory. Everyone can just sit and talk because the noise is so low. I always enjoy having a couple burgers after the match while we take everything down and do the scoring. It is a big part of the airgun field target experience.
Ive been saying we need to grill out!! Some hot food would be awesome after shooting.

Beeman  Beeman .25

I have the similar HW80 in both .20 and .25, and let one go in .177 since it was too much for that little pellet. The .20 works better than the .22 I had for a little bit, as HW barrels are just weird in .20. In .25 it is my go to rifle for pesting and squirrels. I prefer iron sights and the trajectory isn’t hard to get used to.

When I started the closest match was a 2 hour drive. The next closest was 3.5 hours away. While putting more miles than a sane person should on my car to attend matches states away another shooter and I started our own club ten(+?) years ago. We held matches on a small property between corn fields. Now we have 6 clubs that are two hours or less away from me, and most other shooters in the area. It took a lot of work and patience but you can have matches close to you too.
I have one club close but there is not enough interest at this club or the one 130 miles away to generate any more clubs in the area. Itr is what it is. We have been trying to grow the local one and its just not. So, IF I want to shoot FT, I more often than once a month, I must travel. Just sucks but such is life!

Coma wheel direction

I am looking for a new scope and side wheel combination for field target. I really want a removable side wheel.
JD custom is what I have now. It is great. But I’m shopping around while they are restocking inventory.
I just discovered that the coma side wheels come in two directions. If the parallax wheel turns clockwise to increase magnification it is one type and if turning counter clockwise increases magnification it is the other style.
Can someone please show a picture of how it should be set up.
The coma side wheels are generally positioned so the tighter radius is used at the shorter distances, progressing to a broader radius at the farther ranges, giving the operator more space between yardages…good luck with your new setup. John

RTI  More MORA content

This gun just keeps getting better. I've gotten the best scores of my career and among the highest degree of consistency Ive had from any platform.

Ive posted numerous targets and video in the RTI Mora Facebook group but there are many more examples of the guns ability and consistency on my YouTube channel. This is one of the two videos I shot today. This is the sped up 2 minute version, but the full video with commentary is right next to it in the channel for those that are interested. The second of today's videos will likely be up tomorrow, but you really need not bother since the two are almost clones, within 2 point of each other (the 2nd one had the higher score) and both with SDs under 1.5.

I've had my Mora .25 standard for a few weeks. It's the most accurate gun I've ever shot. Fps is very consistent

AirMaks Arms  Katran Compact in .22 - oh Yeah!

Nice Katran! Awesome to hear your wife is enjoying the hobby too. Such a great gun and I absolutely love mine. I do like the looks of the tube version better than my bottle. Mine needs a good tuning(wasting air) but shoots so good I haven’t touched it. I was farting with mine last week and shot my best 30 yard group ever. Definitely some luck involved but shows what the gun is capable of. Mine and that 5 shot group from last week.

Utah might still have some on sale if you need one for yourself 😂🤘

Happy Shooting
Rob

No, it's not a translation problem, the forum is international, in many countries this tube is called a compressor, it would probably be correct to call it a pump, but it was not my idea to call it a compressor . Sorry.
I didn't say that it was your idea to call it that, why are you making this adversarial?

As I attempted to explain, it is not termed as "compressor" in English and I simply asked for clarification. How else is one to clarify what you meant?

This is a USA-based forum.

I think it is best that we not interact so will I take that action.

I wish you good fortune. Goodbye.

HW/Weihrauch  Hw30/Olympia Hobby pellet test.

Because I avoid giving more money than I have to to China and all the great stuff I've seen out of Poland lately, I bought this tin of Olympia pellets on a whim from PA. I didn't realize they're labeled Hobby with no specified weight. PA lists them at 7.87 I suspect that's wrong and they're heavier.

You can see in this video
there was a bit of a breeze so I kept the testing to 25 yards and simply ignored the wind through the whole test. The rifle is my Laminate Hw30. It will give just about any springer a run for its money <25 yards and most past that.
20250619_095137.jpg

The pellets and chrono results are on the target the numbers read Average- Extreme Spread and Standard Deviation.

The Olympia pellets varied a little in fit and it showed in the ES. The average fit was about the same as the other JSB made pellets. JSBs tend to be small to begin with. The power on the Olympia was markedly lower than the Others. It was also markedly lower in my Hw50. I suspect these are really closer to 8.5 grains. I'm too lazy to break out a scale right now. Incidentally they performed about as well in the Hw50.

My overall feel for these is, they're clean, decent pellets, but not a real bargain at 12 bucks a 500 tin. I'd say they're better than an average tin of Walmart Crosmans but not as good as a good tin of Walmart Crosmans. These however are typical soft lead so you won't ever have to scrub them out of a barrel. Since these are the "Hobby" version I'll try other versions from Olympia to see if they're on par with JSB. Olympia is made in the deep south of Poland. Not far from JSB in the Czech Republic. Interestingly they mimic the same weights as JSB.

I'll do more testing with these on a calm day with another rifle.
