Crosman Vapor Max?

Gamo China crosman is a non starter for me now. I'm hurt and bitter that they've stolen my love of 30 years. I bought one china crosman and it had to be returned within a week due to trigger group component failure, and I'm still really mad about the gamo acquisition and brand cheapening and disposal of certain components and tooling (as I was told on the phone)

I don't know what other beginner starting options we have anymore that aren't chinese. Their return procedure is sloppy to day the least and I sincerely hope you don't have to return anything. Best of luck

Other  The Miracle Airgun Slug: Introducing AirMarksman Precision Slugs!

It was Altaros who changed the sport with their high BC, round nose slugs. Looks like Utah took notes and developed a similar slug. Nice to see other companies coming out with the round nose design.
Confidently taking credit for other's hard work.😂
ZAN came out with the ELR slugs, but they didn't say "WE DID IT", they just said: "we're trying to make it more affordable..." As Altaros is super expensive(rightfully).

But competition is always great.

Hatsan  Hatsan factory sniper L not reaching claimed fpe

Reviving this. in essence as a shoutout to Jarkko.
I did get me a SL and as all other pcp´s of course took it apart completely.

Albeit i´ve got some rather serious critique on the unit for Hatsan the power claimed though is there with an absolute minimum of modifications.

There´s a few of us that run this rifle that compare notes that keep heavy machinery AND the know-how needed why the following is to be said.

It´s basically held back at two points. The valve/poppet setup and the entry port on the barrel.
The latter is simple enough to port out to more in reason dimensions with the rest of the transfer circuit. Just go at it i say but keep absolute diameter in mind.

The valve is a bit more involved and takes a bit of machining to get right.

Be that as it may there´s those of us that have seen beyond 200 Joules for the 25 @ very elevated reg pressures but be that as it may with a tad of porting and a reworked valve assy the thing lingers along calmly at 135bars handing an easy 130 Joules.
So yes.
The SL can no doubt be had to deliver, that much is for sure.

On a completely different note it became sorts of a pet peeve to me the length of this unit. With one of my own 220mm long cans out front to keep it silent in operation it turned just silly.
Well.
There´s a remedy for that carrying the thing around, as i looked through the parts list for FX stuff.... the foldable stock hinge for their Dreamline and what not. Not overly expensive seeing what it is either.

More or less direct fit install, and does it ever make for a difference. IMO this is how this insanely long gun should be delivered from Hatsan.
Anyway.
I´ll make a separate post on my findings as far as the gun shortly.

What pistol did you shoot today

I had a feeling that this 30 dollar Crosman 1600 BB Gun could be a better shooter than it already was....polished the barrel and rolled crowned the end of the barrel tube by .005 to match the BB size…and switched ammunition from Umarex steel 5.1 grains to Crosman Black Widow 5.23…just a tad heavier…big difference…this pistol has the longest 5 lb trigger pull ..the hammer spring is no joke in this pistol…I did a 10 meter shoot and rest set the sights for 25 yards at a 4” steel plate and hit it 12 out of 15 shots…this budget build was more than I could ever hope for …working on plans for next build ..spoiler..Beretta 92A1 Full Auto

FX  FX M4 Slug liner?

Exact info I was looking for. I have seen where most advice against going down the slug rabbit hole. But that is ideally why i got the impact. IMO ignorant newbie opinion, the impact fits the bill to be pushed to distance and ELR. I do have a chrono and push over 1000 yards regularly with powder burners. I also reload so I am somewhat used to the technical side of shooting. I am already building up an additional arsenal for plinking. Putting together a couple of NOTOS for my son and I. Also have a huben GK 1 that I am configuring in a carbine format for a truck rig. would like to pickup a Karma SLS, Brocock Sanoran and a Western Mordax in the next couple months. Will also need a big bore and thinkin a something from Texan will do for close on big hogs...
OK, we are really similar. I just don't have any guns that lend to 1k yards, but lots of esoteric stuff, ive loaded and cast since the early 2ks. The beauty of the impact is that it's the reloading bench and the gun in 1.

If you want to chase those slugs you'll probably be doing the tungsten hammer weight, heavy liner, slug probe to control seat depth and get a little extra flow and potentially the carbon tensioner. All things I did in my pursuit of a quiet air powered 22long with 22 hornet bc ranges.

While we are here, racecar parts. Take a look at the dnt zulus. Range finding, ballistics solving, day night optic. If you get your velocity down perfect, this optic makes you a varmint weapon. This is where mine ended up for doing 150 yard + squirrels.

Filling Benjamin Marauder w/ compressed air

We'll see. I've been deep into firearms for many years. I've long thought about an air rifle and just recently dipped my toes into it. I don't know if it will catch on for me, given my enthusiasm for firearms.

I enjoy pistols recreationally, but also stay on top of training and practice for defensive purposes. I also like precision long-range rifle shooting. Air rifles are fairly limited on distance. But so far it is fun.
Just , so you know I seen shooter 1721 shoot a golf ball at 200 yards , and the .30 cal Texan holds a record 1.17 mile. The Altaros did a 1" moa at a mile.
Hope the airgun bug gets you , and have fun OV.

Sig Sauer  New to this just wanna be safe

I don't know if your compressor directions mention this, but the bleed valve on the compressor should be opened when starting the compressor against pressure (a non-empty bottle) and once the compressor starts, close the bleed valve for the fill. If you have to stop the compressor during a fill, again open the compressor bleed valve to release pressure, restart the compressor, close the bleed valve and continue your fill. Never start the compressor against pressure.

Taipan  Taipan Slash first tuning report.

While we're waiting for jpiperson2002 to reply, I can tell you this.

My Slash Tactical Compact .22 gets the following:
  • Bar Fill: 290-295
  • Reg Setting: 165 bar
  • Pellets: JSB/FX/AEA 25.39
  • Total good regulated shots: 58
  • ES: 28
  • SD: 5.1
  • FPE: 50.5
I don't shoot slugs, and only have 3 pellets mags, so usually only fill to 270-280 bar or so. Plus, gun is new so I expect the ES and SD to drop once regulator sets in.

This compact has a 420mm barrel, and I don't need a moderator with a 50 fpe gun! It's one of the very few PCP's I've owned without moderator in my suburban backyard.

The removable magazines, modest sound levels, relatively compact size with 420mm barrel, light weight, and the ability to shoot both pellets and slugs from the same rifle, all make the Slash a nice balanced package.

I assume that we'll see some incremental changes as time goes on but the basics are all there with this initial release.

Some people will be waiting for the .30 to get more power. The K1 doesn't compete in the .30 market though the Leshiy2 and others do.

Even the 420mm .25 cal is able to shoot lighter weight slugs at over 1000f/s (~80fpe).
I'd rather not need to buy an additional high-power kit to increase the max power by another 25fpe or whatever.

Though once up at that power level you're limited to the heavier slugs, especially if you want to keep them subsonic for noise or accuracy reasons.

A K1 is arguably the better deal for the price than a Slash, and the K1s usually show up at a discount in the classifieds every month. If I were just looking for my 1st ever semi-auto compact hunting airgun I'd get a K1. But if I had already owned a K1 or two and maybe a Leshiy2, along with a couple of less expensive semi-autos (like my first 3 AEAs semi-autos which all failed miserably in short order), along with some other expensive airguns, then I wouldn't hesitate to get a Slash for it's unique set of features.

There is an ongoing debate on whether it makes more sense to work one's way up the line from cheap entry level airguns through mid-range airguns and finally up to the top-tier. Or whether it's better to just 'get the best' from the beginning. The problem is that there usually isn't a best airgun. There are just a group of suitable airguns from different companies out there which meet the technical and budget requirements of the consumer at the time. I learned a lot progressing from BB rifles and break barrels pellet guns and CO2 pistols in the 1980s and then the wonderful Career underlever repeating .25 cal carbines shooting ~65fpe. It took another 30 years to develop really dependable semi-auto airguns with adjustable power levels suitable for both hunting and target practice.

The costs are still very high for top level airguns since it's such a small market. Compared to firearms anyway, where my local shop has hundreds of used high power rifles and shotguns on sale often for just a couple of hundred dollars. Airguns are still a very niche market, at least in the US with the easy access to more powerful firearms.

I watch too many airgun videos

I watch lots of airgun videos as well, nothing wrong with that if it's for the airgun-pic and eye-candy. 😁

There are a few youtube airgun channels that do detailed reviews with proper testing that are really good. The rest fall into entertainment, infomercial, click-bait or more frequently these days, AI generated crap. Anyone can do an unboxing and regurgitate the manufacturer's propaganda. One or two cherry-picked groups accompanied with excuses for the fliers hardly qualifies for an accuracy test.

The hunting videos are ok and often show some nice scenery. Many of these shooters are very skilled at using top-end equipment and accessories, reading the wind and making incredible shots in a target rich situation... they are also very good editing the videos and controlling the narrative. Just notice: hundreds of pigeons and a whole day worth of shooting (watch the sun and lightning) for a dozen spectacular hits... and how many poor hits or misses? Cool to see but hardly "real world" for the most of us.

Yup, I spend too much time on youtube, most of which is spent sifting through the crap trying to find something worthwhile to watch. Seems that everyone with a cellphone is a self-proclaimed expert trying to cash in on some easy money. Often there is more to be learned by reading the comments than watch the video LOL!

Nothing wrong with watching youtube, it's just that with all the contradictory videos from dubious sources I'm don't accept anything as presented without doing some real research.

Sig Sauer  New to this just wanna be safe

I got my new pcp gun today it’s an sig sauer virtus. I spent the extra money and got an air compressor. My question is,,say I’m down to about a quarter tank and I want to go ahead and refill it. Can I unscrew it from the gun with a quarter tank of air left in it or do I have to somehow bleed all the air out first and then unscrew it to fill it up or can I fill it up while it’s still attached to the gun.?? I know that there’s warnings saying that it’s a very high amount of pressure and I just don’t want it exploding on me or something. Sorry if this seems like stupid question like I said this is my first one.

HPA can kill you.... that said, fill your guns bottle from the foster QD fitting at the neck of the bottle to no more than MFGR max rec safe working pressure. before doing any maintenance on your gun involving HP areas, always degas your gun.

I was today years old, when I realized... (scope zeroing).

Ok people, do not try to overthink zeroing, just follow 2 simple rules:

Yes, for zeroing scoped (air)guns there are just two (and only two, not more!) things you need to memorize and make it a fact you can remember and recite in your sleep:

When you aim at a target, you want the bullet (or pellet/slug/bb/whatever) to go to that specific place, so if the aimpoint and the POI are not in the same place, The bullet point of impact (POI) needs to go somewhere; it needs to move to the point you aim at. (Simply because that is where you aimed at because you want the bullet to go there to that specific place!

So the 2 rules are:
  1. By dialling the turrets you steer the bullet/POI where it needs to go (not the reticle and not the target, you steer the bullet!)

  2. If the bullet/POI needs to go Low and or Left you turn the respective turrets cLockwise.

That is all you have to remember! Just make it a mantra: Low and Left is cLockwise, Low and Left is cLockwise, Low and Left is cLockwise (3 L’s after each other)

(and yes if you need to go Up and or Right, you need to dial coUnteRclockwise, but again, you do NOT need to remember that, as it logically opposites the Left, Low, cLockwise rule!)

This is it, it really is as simple as that!

Hope this helps somebody…

new guy to airguns

Yeah, if I go shooting at 3:57 Magnum or bigger than I should 200 to 300 bullets I spent as much as I would the whole month shutting air guns

Agree. I'm still very new at this sport as an adult but it is so much easier and more efficient to go in my backyard and shoot a quiet air rifle vs burning a bunch of powder.
We recently moved to a neighborhood from a farm (where I had a long distance gun range) but I found I didn't shoot my pistols or rifles nearly as much as I anticipated. It's expensive now, it's loud, and my neighbors didn't appreciate me laying down a 100 rounds of 5.56 too much.

Either way is fine. I would prefer to fill it while on the gun. As said, it's a max fill of 3000 psi so you want to be careful not to overfill it. If your new compressor has autostop set it to 3000 but I wouldn't depend on it not to fail to stop. I never leave them unattended.
The tank is designed so it can be removed while charged. It's regulated at 1100 psi so you wouldn't want to run it lower than that.
With this set up you can purchase more tanks and carry them to the bench or out in the field and hot swap them.
Being new to PCP and HPA compressors you'll want to take your time and learn. HPA ain't no joke. Read your specific manuals for both and maybe watch a few videos online.
