Has anyone purchased a YONG HENG recently?

I made a closed loop cooling system for a YH, a couple of years ago, to allow me to use it at the range. It weighted close to 60 pounds, so it was OK portable, but wouldn't wish to pack it up too many stories.

The radiator I used was a Nissan Xterra heater core. If it is of value, I can offer what I used and how I did it.

I found that the closed loop cooling system was not sufficient for filling a 45-minute SCBA tank, but fine for rifles. Cooling from a water faucet was the best cooling solution that I found, for filling tanks.

I finally decided that I was going down the wrong path in using tanks and home compressor for filling my guns, and switched to a GX CS3 for direct filling at the range. That was the best solution for me, but not necessarily for others, of course.

Here it is mocked up which makes the parts easier to see.

Replica's

Anyone own one of the replica air/handguns like Glock, Sig, Beretta, ETC? any suggestions for a decent quality model that shoots fairly well and accurate out to say 15 yards.
Didn't see this mentioned b4, HW75 SSP on par with an IZH 46m and other 10 meter pistols , looks like a .45 auto pb.
I just bought one and find it hard to shoot other guns , at least this first week of owning .

Chronograph Madness

I'm not sure that is much of an issue with the air pistols we shoot. The mounts I have 3D printed for the Combro put the muzzle about 2 cm back from the first sensor, and the mounts for the HT-X3006 are similar. Because the turbulence of the air exiting the barrel can affect the accuracy, most competition pistols have an "air stripper" system that vents the gas away from the path of the pellet. In many instances, this starts well back from the actual muzzle.

I've been careful to make sure the pistol mounts I've printed don't block the venting system on the pistols (give or take the occasional rubber band...).

Arken EPL 6-24x50 review

This thread is old but I feel like I need to amend my comments relative to hunting with my Arken EPL4 6-24. I took my fourth squirrel with it today and it works significantly better than I thought it would. I have used both 8X and 10X. Fortunately I made a stock for the P35 it is on which fits so I can find my target even with it turned up to 10X. I have not taken a shot using the lighted reticle but I have messed with it and it could be useful in low light. 8X is definitely useful and visible in good light. I also now think the glass is a little better than my Athlon Talos 6-24. But I still think the way the turrets are marked is stupid. It's so easy to just put a right and an up arrow I don't know why Arken can't do it. But that only affects sight in. Overall I like it even better now that I've used it more. It cost more than my other scopes but it's worth it.
Now even older but still relevant! I’m looking at this very scope (hunter reticle) to replace a 4-16x44 sfp for hunting and came across your post, would you mind helping me out with a couple of questions?

how is the eyebox at higher maginifications? my current scope on 16x is very tight, neck-strain tight… I hope this one is better?

currently most of my shots are about 50 yards and magnification is never below 10x ( only stationary targets in a verified safe environment so tunnel vision is not an issue), how usable is it from 10x and up?

any problems with reliabillity? I know it’s just a 500 dollar scope but still,a little ruggedness and water resistance are required…

thank you very much for your time!

Beeman  Talk about pellet fussy.

I'm still struggling to understand what's going on with the accuracy of this early Beeman 77. The wind was very light to non existent this afternoon so I went back at this rifle with five shot groups at 25 yards. It shoots ok with FTTs 4.51 (targets 1-5)or 4.52 (targets 6-10). After dialing right 8 clicks and up 6 I tried grouping 5 FX 10.3s on 11 and it was horrible. Tried two shots of 8.44 JSB at 12 but they shot so far left I moved to 13 where they shot so poorly I gave up after four.
Bottom row is AA branded 8.4 made by JSB. Target 23 is more what I expect from this rifle at 25 yards the rest are about the same as FTTs..

This gun shoots ok with its best pellets but its terrible with most everything else. The last rifle I seen shoot different pellets to such wildly different POI had a loose barrel and no choke. The barrel on this one slugs great so I had such hi hopes.

It might turn out to only be a conversation piece on the wall. 😮‍💨

Shoebox on last leg

After many years of ownership since 2008 a couple rebuilds , a few miscellaneous parts like belts and drive gears. It looks like I’m on my last rebuild. Yesterday while filling I started hearing the dreaded belt skip, I knew right away that the aluminum drive gear was worn and needed replacing. Luckily I did have one left. While I had it up on the bench I figured I may as well change any worn bushings and throw some new o rings and felt on the rods. I do have quite a few o rings and other parts but I’m on the last drive gear. I know some of the parts are available from ocolabs and went there to order a couple spares.
I’ve never dealt with them before and to my surprise they were in stock. That’s when I ran into problems. They would only let me put one in my shopping cart , I like to order multiples for future use. Then to add insult to injury the shipping for the 30$ part was 200$ US through UPS. Well you can forget that. At this point this great compressor that has served me well for many years is now on its last leg. I did send them an email asking if there were other shipping options but I doubt they will change their policy for one sale. Here’s the link for those who may be looking. https://ocolabs.com/product-category/spare-parts/

Looks like I’ll be shopping for a compressor, as the JTS I have just can’t handle filling my 6.8l tank.
There was a new in box , original shoebox @ indiana show . $500 i didn't buy it . parts not available . Also it had a motor . I thought it was air drive as in a shop compressor to run it .

Moving to Georgia

I used to love seeing your hunts and bows you built on Primitive Archer. If your still building bows a lot of different wood should be easier for you to get! Good luck Manny and safe travels
Hey Steve, good old days them.

I have a number of bows at various stages, an Osage and a Red Oak in the final tillering then half dozen Guavas from rough shaped to bending stage but I have no time to work on them anymore

Making tech drawings for parts

Need the Total OAL ?
Length of 1/2-20 threading ?
Width and Diameter of shoulder behind threading ?
Bore diameter within 1/2-20 threading ?

The .600 at barrel end , I.D. or O.D. ?
Need BOTH specifications noted.

Is the I.D. slipping over barrel shouldered at some depth ? or does it continue all the way up to the shoulder behind threading ?
Placement of air venting slot as well width and length required ?

Ex machinist ... sorry 🫣
I know, I know! It was just a quick example of how an average hobbiest can share what's needed.

I almost got sick today"

Before doing anything- read this:

Hunting safety in populated areas

I do nothing but sketchy stuff. 30 years of it and I've not caused any property damage or hurt anybody. Slugs is where you really have to start to be careful...... And bbs. I ran a trajectory chart for pellets to see how far out they hold energy enough to be a problem.. So i try and keep my shots to where that energy is all lost in the air if I miss, or have a back stop like a tree trunk behind it. Slugs need a huge amount of time to bleed off energy relatively speaking.

Replica's

My crosman m1 had some parts (semi) failures rather rapidly resulting in a loss of semi auto or bolt hold open after a shot at all. About 1000 shots judging by co2 use. I had about 35 minutes of fun with it over 1 week.

The bolt carrier, has a sear face with a tiny piece of steel cast in, the corner radiused. The bolt has another catch face, radiused. The sear had uneven faces and a mold seam that was causing uneven contact resulting in wear and slippage.

A little diamond stone seems to have it straightened, but i need to test.

Crosmans customer service line is a nightmare. I went from #9 to #8 in 3 hours on hold. No email responses yet.

It's a great, fun gun that can easily be made to last with a little better qc or minor parts blueprinting.
