I don't know about FX but Huma offers reasonably priced rebuild kits for their regulators. But it's just the O-rings you need and a sealing disc or two. They also offer the discs separately. If you can buy something like this for the FX it would be my next step. But when the Huma in my new Caiman failed it only needed silicone grease in the right amounts in the right spots. This gun is used, however, so O-ring replacement seems appropriate.

I've got three FX rifles that take the same AMP reg. I have 4 or 5 of the latest AMP reg's and 4 or 5 of the HUMA w/ all the different washer stacks. I've used all extensively. Both have pros & cons. If I had to choose.....I'd choose the latest AMP. I get just a tad better consistency. Both reg's use delrin seals, so no real difference there. Honestly you can't go wrong with either. I even use an AMP w/ the delrin piston as the 1st reg on my Wildcat and it works fine. The only real pluses of the HUMA has is the power range can be more narrow which theoretically would result in better consistency, but isn't proven in real life. Also, the replaceable delrin Disc. The answer to that is keep a spare AMP piston.

Every reg will periodically need rebuilt. I've had to rebuild both about the same amount.

Optical zero

I dialed my Hawke adjustable zoom scope to "optical zero" then reattached it to the rifle and was disappointed to see that the scope was way off. So, I adjusted the scope to print where I wanted the bullet to go, but in the end, both elevation and windage were almost at their extreme limits as before.
Am I doing this wrong?
Last time I had trouble with not being able to adjust a scope it was some cheap utg scope rings causing the issue. A one piece cantilever scope mount can provide a solid way to attach to a rail.

What was your first Pellet Rifle?

Crosman 760, put alot of bbs and pellets through it. Next was Crosman 22 cal. 140 ? Maybe? . Went to Florida when we moved there and shot swamp rabbits, snakes and a gator sunning behind house,he left the yard quick. Had alot of fun with those guns,like everyone wish I still had them.

Although I’ve never owned the V1, I recently purchased a LRF V2 after researching the new features/changes. I feel the V2 is worth the price difference. The on screen data is more intuitive. How the vertical angle is shown, cant indicator and battery life are huge improvements on the V2 compared to V1. Changing the zoom on the V2 is now more like a traditional scope by turning the knob instead of the weird dial used before. The added battery life and longer eye relief are nice features too. Bottom line is if the price difference isn’t going to break your bank, I’d consider getting the V2. The only downside is the removal memory card is no longer an option. Everything else is a vast improvement IMO.

The .30 cal semi-auto compact PCP hunting airgun market is heating up lately. I gave up my few .30 cal airguns a few years ago due to noise levels and ammo cost. But now it seems like we suddenly have a new crop of Hubens and the Mordax and Sidewinders and Leshiy2s and others all competing directly with their novel 30 cal semi-auto designs.

Maybe one of those manufacturers will eventually apply some of that private-sector AI research we hear so much about to the problem of designing an airgun which doesn't require O-rings. Even some small firearms can hold hot gases at internal pressures of over 50000psi for many thousands of shots without using O-rings. Just closely machined metal-to-metal surfaces with hardened coatings.

That's a somewhat apples-to-oranges comparison of firearm vs airgun tech. It mostly shows our perspective - airgun tech mostly seemed very rapid over the past 20 years when we compare it to the preceding 50 years before that when break barrel rifles and CO2 ruled the market. Airgun tech advancement hasn't been especially fast or comprehensive when compared to the more rapid advancements in paintball or firearm technologies.

The largest airgun market segment in the US may still be the paper target crowd who are happy enough with a relatively compact and shrouded, manually repeating 30 fpe airgun in .22 or maybe in .177 or .25. They want that level of power and enough accuracy to deal with the occasional pest problem, not for hunting to feed their family. Only a small segment of airgun users are looking for hunting tools suitable for hunting deer or hogs at 75 yards. Another small segment is looking for small 75 fpe air pistols or 40 fpe .68 cal CO2 ball pistols to use for protection. But mostly people seem to be using their airguns for shooting targets or for light hunting and pest control.

I really liked the K1s and GK1s I used to have. And I would like to have a matched set of a .30 cal K1 and a GK1 carbine. But I don't need either of them just for making little holes in paper and won't be buying either of them. Going to 30 cal is a big step up in the Huben product line though.

Still testing .177 slugs....slow motion rabbit vital shot 25 yards

JSB Knockout 10.03g @ 1018 fps / 23 fpe

Decided to test the 10.03g JSB Knockout MK3 one more time and at 25 yards got more than enough penetration and on inspecting the exit wound seemed to expand very nicely although I didn't recover the slug. I was a little hesitant to use the 10g since the last time when I used it to take a rabbit with a headshot @ 55yds. It put the rabbit down quick enough with the headshot but didn't pass through so I was kind of doubtful if I'd get a pass through with a vital shot.

The 10.03g slammed through the rabbits arm, through the vitals, and left a big exit wound on the opposite side breaking a couple ribs on the way out. He just dropped immediately and remained in the spot where he fell so plenty of penetration.

I've been using the 13.43 Knockouts lately and they've punched clean through up to 80 yards on a Jackrabbit but they haven't been expanding consistently hence testing the 10.03g again. I'd like to take some rabbits out to 80-100 yards and see how they perform.

You got a backflip! I've seen 3 of those in 20 years of cotton tail hunting for a golf course. You should get pass thru or acceptible terminal results with your energy levels. My buddy was using 177 pellets at 12 fpe for years and they never walked off. 60 yard shots usually.

I highly recommend getting a huma reg. They have washer stack instructions on their page. It should come in parts in a bag but the removal and installation is very modular. Almost like a cartridge. Very easy to do if you have any mechanical inclination. Memorize the instructions on how and when you you can adjust it, watch the oring contact surfaces and you should be in business in about 15 minutes I think.... Depending on your comfort with machines. Or just come back here and im happy to try and help.

Something is misaligned for windage, adjustable rings or tilted bases will help if you're at elevation limits on your optic. I run 30 moa of tilt on all my guns that get shot past 50 yards.... Except one and it has a 30mm tube.

Don't be afraid to shim that optic if you need to, but i do suggest looking for the source of the alignment issue. Weaver, picatinny and nato rails all look the same, and for the most part are, but don't fit and interchange exactly. I shimmed my buddies aea with business card strips for windage and elevation and it's still holding zero a year later and taking ground squirrels.

AirMaks Arms  Airmaks Katran/BRK pathfinder - Airgun euphoria

I think the Katran is an outstanding value. It's comfortable to shoot and has a decent trigger. Mine is a .25 Long but the action and ergos are the same. Hadn't thought about it until now but...my BRK's (Ranger .22 and Ghost .30) are my only air rifles I haven't taken a squirrel with yet. I missed a few times with the Ranger and the Ghost is too much for my backyard shooting environment. They are certainly capable of it and then some.

The Pathfinder seems like a nearly perfect compact for high shot count and the ability to dial it back instantly for close encounters.

Just looking at the barrel it looks like an earlier model . ;) I agree with the others it is bypassing the reg .
I was thinking compact tube gun if regulated, but you have me 2nd guessing now because I think I remember reading that barrel attachment was improved on later models like the one I have and some super thin shroud, like I have. It's a rock solid barrel, but the shroud doesn't do a lot to help quiet anything.

I recently bought a used airgun and it arrived with the regulator at the same pressure as the airtube (220bar). I was told to shoot it to see if it would straighten it out (it was very loud when fired) but it didn't fix it as suspected then it went down to ~200bar but still same pressure as the rest of the air reservoir. Is the regulator damaged in any way if this happens or is it something easily fixable?

There's not a huge plenum to hold thermally expanded air on the dreamline. More than likely the delrin piston in the amp regulator is divoted.... Its a problem with them that I chased on my impact for a long time. My dreamline is good thus far but when it happens I can only give you 1 suggestion.


Just buy the huma regulator and eat the tarrifs. You WILL NOT REGRET IT. They stay rock solid as set on a digital guage and I've been extremely pleased.

It's a simple replacement that will require some metric Allen wrenches to remove the fx reg, some silicone grease or oil which may or may not be provided, and a flat screwdriver in 2 sizes if it's still made like mine.

I recommend pulling the bottle and degassing the gun ASAP, you don't want bottle pressure extruding any orings and causing a rebuild.

The other option is replace the delrin piston and face the issue again later potentially. You can only adjust them up under pressure if memory serves or the piston gets damaged and does this. Keep close track of the way the Bellville spring washers are stacked, this order is important for the spring rate.

Is yours 22? What pressure do you intend to run once fixed? Revisiting your Pic I'm guessing 22 compact tube.
