Hawke 2-7x32 AO IR - Mil Dot Reticle visibility

I almost forgot the obligatory pic of the little beastie

I know some will poopoo this but I love my ffp scopes. Especially the one with a lighted cross hair. I use it in darkened conditions and low magnification and with my old eyes (75) it is a life saver.

Hawke 2-7x32 AO IR - Mil Dot Reticle visibility

Hi all. I used my Westhunter 3-12 FFP on my Taipan .25 Compact for a while, and realized I pretty much have only been using it on 12x for shooting pest birds out my windows. I want to use the compact for squirrels this fall, and also will be using it for rabbits in the yard that like to nibble in the flower beds. When I dial the Westhunter down to lower magnification, that reticle all but disappears, to my eyes. I am thinking that, for the closer range applications I will be using it for, I might want a SFP scope for reticle visibility. I also think a lower magnification might suit my needs, with a wide FOV at 2x helping me spot squirrels and rabbits and, if I see one quite a ways out, dialing up to 7x should be enough magnification for a 40-50 yard shot on a squirrel.

How is the Mil Dot reitcle on the Vantage 2-7x32? Is it extremely fine like the Hawke AMX reticle, or is it heavy enough to pick up easily against a dark background? I know this is subjective, but any feedback you all have would be appreciated.

Thanks,
-pg

97 cubic foot tank or 4500 air compressor for being a couple hundred miles away from civilization 2000 to 3,000 shots per day thank you

IS this a team effort ? as in your pulling the trigger and a team is loading magazines ? You probably need a few more tanks also , i would say 4 tanks at the minimum with a gas powered compressor For reliable 3k shots a day for ? 2 weeks off grid ?
( not even counting how many 12 volt batteries you wound need to carry for the trip )

FX  Impact M4

I just got my M4 600mm in the mail yesterday, I have the reg set at 115 macro @16 and micro on 4 and I am pushing the Zan 26s slug @965 and the FX 34 grn pellet at 876 in .25 cal I get 85 shots on a 250 bar fill. I am keeping everything stock at this point. The gun shoots great, the pellet groups are really tight sub MOA at 50 and 75 yards and .35 inches at 25 center to center, the slugs I need to spend more time with, I am not sure if the tune isn't right or they are finicky to the hold.

Unless you have a LOT of magazines to hold 2000+ rounds you will be spending a lot of time loading magazines.

A 12v compressor is slow. But while you load magazines you can have it top off the gun if it has a large bottle or the 6.8l tank. You might keep up with your air use. You could tether to the tank if the gun has too small a bottle. There are a couple regulated fill valves out there that would allow you to fill the tank to 4500psi and tether to the gun at 2000psi or whatever pressure you want.

Evanix  Good PCP'S are untemporarily.

I’m with you. I do like the consistency a regulator adds for a bench gun but for hunting rifles it’s preferred not to have a regulator. I’ve got two Evanix rifles, a .257 converted Winchester 70/35 ( made by Evanix) and a K550 ( bottled AR6) both unregulated and tuned at high power. Never miss on the first shot.

calculate how much your gun uses per shot. how many shots per fill. how many fills per 96-100cu ft tank. there is your answer.

Compressor= Egg laying hen
Tank- Carton of eggs.

no hen, no eggs. buy a carton sure, but when you're out. You're out. you Could buy a CE rated 98Cu Ft for $260-$320 w whip and valve AND a Yong heng or other twin cylinder compressor for the price of one DOT 96-100 CU Ft Tank/valve/fill whip

example.

Katran L 265cc tube. filled to 250bar nets me about 90 shots to 110bar if i shoot 10.3s at 880-890
a 100CuFt tank filled to 310bar/4500psi will give me 15 fills 110b to 250b.
1350 shots.

Evanix  Good PCP'S are untemporarily.

Yesterday I took out off the shelf my first .30 Cal: Evanix Rainstorm.

Refilled it to 200 bar, loaded the magazine and after four years of resting, I shoot to the coyote silhouette at 55 yards. That Coyote should have a 44.7 JSB pellet in the heart.

Just as simple, accurate as it was.

The confidence of hitting with the first shot after ANY time of inactivity or refilling IS WHAT MATTERS in a hunting PCP, no matter if is the latest technology or an ancient one.

FWB  Handstop with sling swivel for FWB 300S Rail

Thanks Mike. I wondered how you could utilize a sling for off hand support without a swivel on the butt. I may have to try that. Might help me manage the weight of the 300 S. A little better
You are thinking more of what is referred to as a carry or hasty sling which use the two point attachment. When properly adjusted they help a lot but are not as good for dedicated target shooting. I learned to shoot with a target sling back in the early 60's on a ROTC rifle team in college.

That sling attachment shown early in the thread is more just a sling attachment than a hand stop, It could be rather uncomfortable to use as aa hand stop unless one has on a shooting glove

FX  Impact M4

Interesting… I’ll get an opinion from UA and see what they say too. If anything ill have to sell my pellet shooter .25 Maverick and replace it with the M4. This way I’ll get a bullpup, 1 reg, and the quick tune system. Lol.
Wait till you see how much easier a mav hammer change is compared to an impact.

FX  Impact M4

Yeah I was surprised as well when I figured that I’m locked at 135ish. Then looked into it and found a bunch of others who also reported to be maxed out with stock hammer anywhere between 130 to 140b… not a big deal and a gram or two more hammer will solve, just something to consider…
My 700 topped out with factory hammer around 135 bar too. I out a tungsten hammer in it and it's a little too much for the 150 I needed to run.

Jokingly I want to say neither. You aren't going to get 3000 shots a day from a heavy great white (i own one) or a compressor. As for the compressor you won't have time for 3000 shots a day and filling.. Bring a dual voltage compressor and a buddy bottle? You may be able to work filling a buddy bottle and shooting to have as little down time as possible.

Air Arms  Brass trigger guard for Pro Sport in the US?

I was at an airgun show/yardsale/competition in Hemit, CA just a few weeks ago and purchased two beautifully crafted brass trigger guards, one for my TX200, and another for my HW97K. Their cost was a mere $20 apiece. I don't know where you are located, but I can't believe that there aren't any reasonable craftsmen in many places here in the States. I've been intending to contact Chambers, in England, in the hopes of finding nicely crafted cocking arms for my TX200 & HW97K. I do like my bling. Orv.
I am in small town east Texas. I honestly do not know of any airgunners in the area. I did know of one via another forum but like myself he was getting older and passed away last year.

Umarex  Notos cocking got gritty

Glad that worked out, they at least need to change the directions and recommend something more than a few drops of silicone every 500 shots.. With how how much force it was taking and how badly it would bind, impressive that a little paste got it operating smoothly...

I'm glad, I really didn't want to deal with sending it in... I would have just ended up buying a new pcp that cost way too much that I don't need.
Took a few days for umarex to get bak to me about my guantlet. But they were gd got the fed x labels emailed just make sure u have ur sales invoice

FWB  How to replace FWB 300 breech seal?

I have a 300s bought new in the mid 1980's the loading port seal looks good, but I often wonder how long it will last. I recently bought a FWB 150 and that seal looked rather "grungy" so I sent the gun off to David Slade for a rework, hope to have it back by next week.

Umarex  Notos cocking got gritty

I ended up tearing the gun down. I have less than 1 tin of pellets fired. Cleaned everything up, lubed it... My pins were all seated, but also easily came out, but with the gun apart the firing pin still seizes and I can see its not the pin... There was some slop in the pivot on the cocking lever that I thought may have been the issue, as without the hammer spring in, the firing pin would bind, and if I applied pressure it would release and slide.

I could reassemble, cock 5 maybe 10 times fine, then it would lock up.. I can't 100% see the issue. My guess is its torquing it self and wearing the metal, creating a burr and jamming it. I could feel burrs on the hammer spring bushing and inside where it seats it looks worn. But it binds without the hammer bushing in, so it may also be where the cocking pin slides is worn and now torquing it self up and binding.. hard to explain but if you took it apart you would understand. I just don't see obvious wear on the firing pin, and its hard to see into the channel the firing pin slides..

Waiting on some moly paste, but it may be too late, the lube they recommend is not enough to prevent premature wear. Will call umerex monday.
