Have you found that “ One Airgun”?

I haven't found it yet but I am getting closer. Probably the next one or two
My evol .30 is a tank and extremely accurate as far as an all in one big bore swa .20 it’s a powerful shotgun then change choke and it shoots 400 grain slugs bot used very ethical for hunting and a tough build

Thoughts on buying used?

Pretty sure I wouldn't buy a used gun that would require a machine to fix. I could see an oring here or a spring there but that's about as deep as I'd be willing to go.
Don't ever buy an aea then. That's when I had to buy a mini lathe for my first week with the gun.

To elaborate, I wasn't sending it back because of the problems I was having that year with FedEx and the gun was bought new and just started breaking itself with normal use, so I made all my own parts and even sold some here. I have never had a used gun require machined parts, yet. This is also why I'm not bothering with mediocre budget guns that look too good to be true( not knocking anyone's beloved brands). It's low consequence, dead cheap crosman stuff, or premium gear for me going forward.

Thoughts on buying used?

I definitely love to tinker. It makes me kind of nervous when my first has issues out of the box without modding though. I also think the odds of them already addressing it is higher when buying used too which is making me think I should almost just return
Here's a confidence builder. I blew 2200 on a new impact (I'm not made out of money, it took 2 years to save) and I still cracked it open immediately.😁

DTN ZHD520R battery start-up problem

If having a DNT Zulus requires logging on to Facebook to make it operate I will never buy one

Just my too sense
Edward
You dont need FB to make it operate, you just need to be able to follow the directions. https://dntoptics.com/ and it's my two cents.🤣

.177 86 yard shot on squirrel slow motion .

Looks like a Ground Squirrel not a Tree squirrel ??
You do leave them lay .. as very common for them to also be plague carriers via ticks.

Hope you protected yourself while handling !!!
I always throw them in with the rabbits for stew. Eaten dozens of them but they are a pain to skin, hard as hell you almost need pliers to get the skin off. Plague is so rare it's ridiculous. People should worry more about eating like poop and getting diabetes or heart disease.

"Around 29.7 million people have been diagnosed with diabetes."...

"In 2023, 919,032 people died from cardiovascular disease"

And here is the WHOPPING NUMBER OF PLAGUE CASES!!!

"Plague is a disease caused by a bacterium, Yersinia pestis, that can be transmitted to humans via rodents and their fleas. Plague in Yosemite is most commonly associated with fleas found on ground squirrels and chipmunks. Plague in humans is very rare, with only about ten cases per year in the United States"

I'll take my chances with the plague

N/A  Webley Longbow wood.

Look how rough the wood is. It looks like it was dropped in the river overnight.

Yeah, looks like it got dunked. Seen harsh varnish strippers do that to wood as well.

Your other pictures look like things are progressing well!

Congrats on the new to you airgun!

Cheers!

Pellet testing on pests?

I test in wet magazines based upon writings of Finn Aagard, a former professional hunter in Africa. He believed penetration in wet paper was a reasonably simulation of muscle tissue. I benchmarked those tests to penetration in squirrels by shooting a couple dead squirrels I hung from a tree. I don't use guns and/or projectiles that will not go through 8-10 wet magazines of about 80 pages each. I am more worried about killing the pest than over penetration. How much penetration you get in an animal depends a lot on where you hit it. I killed 18 squirrels with my P35-25 when it was tuned to about 32 fpe. 3 shots failed to exit. Two were lengthwise shots that stopped under the skin in the rear. One was a double shoulder shot that stopped under the skin. The lengthwise shots ran a little but all the squirrels died quickly. 15 of 18 were pass throughs. My P35-22 is tuned to about that power level and has killed all 10 I have shot with it and all were DRT with pass throughs. I mainly worried about penetration of my Prod after having two of the first 4 squirrels run off. Tuning it up to about 18 fpe has dropped the last 14 I've used it on but they rarely exit. My P35-177 is at a similar power and has dropped over 20 but I lost one I shot in the rear end. It penetrates more but still often does not exit.

I have a collection of pellets I've taken from dead squirrels. All are distorted some but the copper plated FTTs from the Prod still look pretty close to the way they did before I shot them. Higher powered guns will distort pellets more, especially when they hit bone. I do not use expanding projectiles. I have shot squirrels with Crosman HPs from the Prod but they don't expand at Prod velocity. An expanding projectile will reduce penetration which could be useful if you are worried about over penetration but even non expanding 177 pellets take squirrels quickly with any sort of reasonable placement so I conclude expansion is not necessary.

Testing JSB 13.43g Knockouts @ different velocities 53yards

So was in a hurry to get out and get a rabbit or two but got in a few rounds at the range to check zero...after the last shot made small adjustment to scope and went out and got me a rabbit and squirrel, links below. This vid is just on the target shooting.

Head shot thread

35 Yards Headshot slow motion
Crazy Energy Dump
Pulsar HP .177
JSB 13.43g Knockout @ 1009fps / 30ft lbs

Not the farthest shot but I think it was awesome! This Pulsar is shooting dead on, it's zeroed @ 53 yards so I aimed 2 MOA low since it hits a bit high at 35 yards and you can see it went exactly where it was aimed, not a brag on me but on the gun. There were 2 thin branches coming down and formed a narrow V and the shot went off with the 2 MOA hash mark directly in the middle of the two branches and the slug squeezed through the two thin branches pushing them apart, and popping the rabbit in the eye!

2nd vid is just to show the energy dump, even though it was a pass though a pellet would have just made a clean hole through both sides, this was crazy dump!

Projectiles  NLA WTT H&N Slug HP II, .218 Cal, 25 Grains

Hi everyone,

I have 35 tins of H&N Slug HP II, .218 Cal, 25 Grains. (https://www.pyramydair.com/product/h-n-slug-hp-ii-218-cal-25-grains-hollowpoint-200ct?p=2464)

I would like to trade them for H&N Slug HP, .218 Cal, 25 Grains. (https://hatsanairgunsusa.com/product/hn-slug-hp-22-cal/)

The HP II shoot well in my Taipan Vet but not as well as the older HP. The barrel prefers the older slugs. So if you have the older HP in 25gr and .218 head side, please let me know and we can figure out how to make this happen. I will take whatever amount of tins you have.

Thanks!

American Air Arms  Evol mini .30 degassing

Very easy to degass and work on! Replaced the poly poppet o-ring and the foster o-ring while I had it apart. Gassed it up to 4500psi and it still leaked. Degassed down to 1800 and got out my leaky Edgun Eazy-fill to sort of "bounce" the poppet into the foster seat. Seems to have worked. Still holding at 4.5k.

The two ragged C shaped pieces were around the stem of the poppet valve when I removed the old o-ring. Almost like trash from machining or.....? I could not think of any legit reason they would be there.
